Tripod recs

Can anyone recommend a tripod to me that is reasonably priced? I need to get one for an upcoming shoot that I am planning. I would prefer something larger than a tabletop tripod, but if that is all I can get at a reasonable price then I can work with it.
Depending on what you want to spend I recommend not skimping.. some of the better brands are
Bogen/Manfrotto, giottos, here is a link to some
most important thing is look at it's support weight... Go overboard. the more sturdy, the better. And get a ball head... Realistically I wouldn't spend under $100 for a tripod. If you can't afford that... Borrow one till you can. If you need a tripod for a day or two I'm sure someone here can help you out. I can.. Best of luck Aaron

one day i was in need of a tripod and i just stopped by best buy to pick one up on the way. i didn't have much money w/ me so i only had about $50 or so to work with. i picked up a camcorder tripod and it has been fine. i can see where more expensive tripods would be better, but for only $50 it's worked just fine for me.

Put a number on the highest price you are willing to pay for the tripod (with a head) and look at B&H ( and list 4 or 5 that you have found that fit your price. From there, I and others may be able to swing you to the better ones of that lot.
Thanks everyone. Brian, I will do that in the next couple of days once I figure out what I can spend. Thanks for your help.
