I am looking to upgrade soon, so i was looking for some insight about how you chose the right camera for you..

I have a Canon XT now but it is not longer fitting my needs.. I was considering a 30d since i already have Tons of lens and extras that work with Canon..

So how did you decide and where did you buy from..

Does anyone know of any camera rental places around here.. I would really love to rent a few and compair..

Thanks

i'm new to the world of photography, and w/ some of my graduation money i was looking at the best camera i could get for under $1000.

i was looking at both nikon and canon, and went w/ the nikon d40x because my uncle had 4 older nikon lenses that he didn't use anymore that he gave me as gifts.

that's how i picked. if it wasn't for the lenses i guess i would have gone either way. but i love my d40x!

If you have canon lenses that would work with a canon 30d or 20d then it's a no brainer. Stick with the cannon. They are great cameras and the thing you will find on all cameras is the lens that does most of the work. There is actually a camera finder on flickr that will show you what people are using and the results. here is a link.. www.flickr.com/cameras/

good luck.

www.bhphotovideo.com is a great place that I have been ordering from for years. www.Adorama.com is another. You do have to know what you are looking for if you order from either, however.

Yes, best to stick wtih Canon -- just like I stuck with Nikon because of all the lenses I already owned. Plus I believe Canon beats Nikon, anyway in performance -- but only if you are looking at the high end systems.

I agree on B&H and Adorama... Thats where I got my gear as well. Not to forget local 1st photo. Very nice staff and very knowledgeable. Try to talk them down in price but they are good. Do not go to Duluth Camera Exchange!!! I have never had such poor service in my life. I wanted to give them business but the few times I went in I was treated so bad that I will never return...

Third those two online stores and the local one. I did quite a bit of research on places to buy before I got my Canon 20d and more or less all the other online places that offer better deals are bait and switch operations.

Honestily the two big ones are Canon or Nikon and either will do just as good a job. Pentax is moving up in the DSLR world pretty good as well, my first ever camera was a Pentax k1000 and it was great.

If you have Canon lenses stick with them

I liked nikon from film, and I had 550 or so to blow. I wanted a d50 but wanted to buy new so I went with the d40
