As most of you are now aware, the new Pocketwizard Flex tt5 has comms problems due to the RF noise coming from the Canon 580ex and MK II flashes. To solve the problem, PW started to give away (Free of charge) the new AC5 Soft Shield, however this is only valid for US residentes only. Well, since I dont live in the USA, I started to do my homework and realised that copper actually blocks a big porcentage of the RF noise coming from the flash. So I headed to the local Art Shop (Riot art shop located at Westfieds in Burwood, Sydney) and got a copper/aluminium sheet for $30 dollars. cut a few pieces and taped it to the flash and BINGO! problem solved. Without this DIY soft shield, I was lucky to get 15 meters distance from the flash, with the soft shield, I stopped testing at around 150mts away (I guess that is plenty of distance for what I want)
This is not a pretty solution, but at least makes me happy, Im now planning to make a sock for it. (will post photos once done)

why buy a copper/aluminum sheet for $30 dollars?
you could get it free using food aluminium foil.

copper sheet can be easily found as a cigarette wrap (m*rlboro and the like)
look in you local thrash can ...
well there are many people who smoke here.

eemm i don't have pocwiz .. i'm on a very limited budget
but you could try those free sheets, whether they work well or not

mmmm Im not really sure if I want to go into trash containers on the street looking for alumium/copper sheets, but thanks for the tip anyway. I will keep it in mind :-)

I think 30 dollars is a small price to pay to get rid of this annoying problem with the PWs and Canon Flashes (580ex series mostly) The sheet is big enough for about 4-6 flashes so is about 5 dollars per flash. Keep in mind that the local art shops charge a fortune for products hard to find. You might be able to find something cheaper somewhere else.

I have tested it again and this time I stopped at 250m, that is really good distance.

I also tested the cheap cactus KF36 and also gave me 250m, I didnt want to test any further.

I tested it with Aluminum Foil and didnt solve the issue.
