What I miss the most when shooting with film, is EXIF data. And on the run, I found it difficult to keep a log book of each frames.
So I create a Web tool to log your camera settings easily when shooting with film camera.
First add a film, then frames. When your roll of film is over, just add a new film into the log. It will also try to log your current location if a...
I'm pretty sure everyone knows about the Black Foamie Thing (BFT) designed by Neil VN. He's got a review about a new light modifier for on-camera flash to achieve the same effect as off-camera flash and it seems like the advanced version of BFT. His full review is here:
However, the price tag is abit too high $149. You can get $...

I want to built a periscope to do under-the-watersurface-photography.
I have many questions, but the main one concerns the limitation I have to do anything wide angle.
This construction will be an l-shaped tube from app 10 cm diameter and 150 cm long. At the end there will be a bent, in the bent a mi...
So I printed an image of a color chart out of curiousity and place it in a black foam board, I don't know how accurate it is and sometimes it's a pain to make it "work" (dng profile editor from adobe whicich is free is very sensitive to color cast) but I'm happy with the result.. until I can save up for it, I guess this will have to do for now,,
So you have a horse/person/dog/flower etc and you would love a black background. BUT, you can't afford a back drop and expensive flashes.
What do you do?
Here is a tip that can work quite well.
Find a background that is in shadow, the inside of a barn, side of your house, etc. Then put the subject in the light.
Next, change your exposure metering on your DSLR ...
Ok guys, hit me with your best shot! I have made a studio at home out of household items, backdrops, reflectors, diffusers etc.
I only have one flash, an old Minolta speedlight I got for less than £10! On the camera too.
Any tips on improvement are much appreciated!

This filter holder is made for Tokina 16-28 lens but the same construction technique is probably usable for other lenses too. I shoot with 5Dmk2.
From Ebay I've bought cheap Chinese Cokin X holder and 95mm ring which is only 2mm bigger than the lens hood outer dimension. Also from Ebay Lens Coat hoodie 3.25 "which is a neoprene and tight enough for Tokina. These cost abou...
DIY flash diffuser & bouncer for Sony NEX
Normally when using flash to take pictures where there is a deficiency in local lighting, direct flash leaves the image too bright, with cooler colors and a uneven concentration of light across the frame.
Learn in this video tutorial on how to build your own flash diffuser and bouncer for Sony NEX cameras!
Even the video ...
could someone point me to where I might be able to purchase PC connectors as just a bare connector so that I can make up various cables in formats and lengths that I require.
There are plenty of pre made cables on ebay but I would love to get a bag of just the bare connector.
The Picture Style aim to reduce the time of post-production, improving shooting to suit your needs. To optimize the work, you prefer to edit them or create new ones. Contrary to popular belief, is not a requirement to load the PS in the camera to apply the effect to shoot, it is actually convenient to use them on your PC as actions (such as Photoshop) in Canon's Dig...
Someone gave me this some time ago and I never thought I would use it, until I had the desire to shoot film.
Then after a little Google I realised I can use the M39 lens (which is a 55mm f2) on my Sony Alpha, like I have been my Chinon 55mm f1.7 M42 lens.
It cannot focus to infinity because you have two adapters, an M39 to M42, then M42 to Sony Alpha, a...

The company, Cables Unlimited has gone out of business so availability of these items is very limited and it took me awhile to research what would work.
The original WUSB kit is unavailable but I found a transmitter and receiver dongles included in this k...
A while ago, I posted some images featuring a modified LumoPro LP160 that I had converted into a bare bulb/tube flash. I had originally planned on getting my personal website and blog up and running to post some tutorials and information on some of the different modifications that I've been working on with various photography/videography gear... but between working full-t...
