wouldn't a true republican want hillary to run for the purposes of ensuring a presidential victory for republicans?

Nothing is for certain, and besides that the times we live in almost beckon for a female president.
I don't understand why the democrats nominate people like Gore, Kerry and Hillary don't they have better options?

I don't always vote Republican, I vote for the best candidate I am just registered as Rep. I might have voted for the democrat last election if he had anything to offer.

What is it about Hillary that would make her bad president? Is it all the baggage from her husbands administration? Which if you ignore the whole sex scadal and look at the parts that truly mattered was a pretty good time for America. Deficit- gone, welfare- shrunk, economy- booming. And terrorism existed against American's before Clinton as well, we all remember the airline hijackings of the 70's and 80's. I'm just curious to hear what Hillary and her senete career have done to make her such a unelectable candidate. And all politicians are masters of the double speak, so let's not hold that as a strike against only her.
eu4ria 11 years ago
Billary WAS the president before and I think she can do it again!

OK, here's my 2 cents: If a woman is the President of the United States you'd have to take into consideration how she's being viewed by people from other nations who are not nearly advanced in their understanding of how equality between men and women works. This said, especially the nations now opposing the U.S. won't accept a woman as an authority easily.

S,B: so true... not to mention the fact that she will have to befriend leaders of other countries who are no doubt males.
My husband thinks she will be another Kennedy...not in success but in assassination.
corn.at Posted 11 years ago. Edited by corn.at (member) 11 years ago
So the fact that England elected a female over 20 yrs ago, Chile has female president, Sierra Leon, Finland, Germany, etc does this not disprove any issues of a woman as leader? And any male headed govt, like Saudi Arabia, that is repressive towards 1/2 it's population, still has to deal with the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet, whatever their gender is.

LOOKIN' FOR A LEADER
Lookin' for a Leader
To bring our country home
Re-unite the red white and blue
Before it turns to stone

Lookin' for somebody
Young enough to take it on
Clean up the corruption
And make the country strong

Walkin' among our people
There's someone who's straight and strong
To lead us from desolation
And a broken world gone wrong

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all

Yeah maybe it's Obama
But he thinks that he's too young
Maybe it's Colin Powell
To right what he's done wrong

America has a leader
But he's not in the house
He's waling here among us
And we've got to seek him out

Yeah we've got our election
But corruption has a chance
We got to have a clean win
To regain confidence

AMERICA is beautiful
But she has an ugly side
We're lookin' for a leader
In this country far and wide

We're lookin' for a leader
With the great spirit on his side

Someone walks among us
And I hope he hears the call
And maybe it's a woman
Or a black man after all.

Corn,
Ahhh... I wasn't aware those countries had female leaders... I stand corrected (or sit) as it were. I still think Hillary will have a heck of time gaining respect because she is known as a hardcore liberal/dem with strong opinions and a lot of those opinions are offensive to a lot of people and certainly the male gender.

I believe she will win the gay and the black voters over...and any leftover Clinton lovers since she has been riding on the coattails of her husband for years.
They start the hype so early on in the game with the Gallup polls... she is more popular than the other candidates before her were, but how easy was that? Al Gore, Kerry? I mean geez...

I think it will be a fun Presidential race to watch but I don't see her getting in. I think it will be McCain, he is a very respected man all the way around.

GW may have killed any chances for the next prez to be a Rep. And the party has to be a bit worried as to how he handles the Dem. congress. If he simply blocks their initiatives, it could further turn the people off to the Rep party. And if he allows them to much sucess, he runs the risk of letting them increase their standings in the eyes of the voters.

Remember Gore got the most votes in 2000!
kindly join [deleted] 11 years ago
If people are voting primarily because a candidate is a certain party then that is pretty sad on their part.

Regardless what party the person is we should vote our conscience and for the best person for the job.
corn.at Posted 11 years ago. Edited by corn.at (member) 11 years ago
30% vote Dem, 30% vote Rep and the other 40% is who both party's chase after. In 2000 a lot of people voted for GW because they were sick of all the scandals in the media surrounding the Clinton administration. And even though Gore had nothing to do with them, and most of the scandals were empty scandals, for many they wanted a change and felt GW would be just that. A lot of that same sentiment is being expressed in the country again, a desire for a change at the top. And since GW leaves no matter what, for a lot of the 40% group change right now also equates to a change of party. Nov. elections were an expression of this feeling. Barack or Hillary are both strong candidates and may be able to capture enough of the 40% group to take the office.
After 6 yrs of Republican control of the govt, and 8 yrs of this admins manipulation of intelligence, and science issues to fit it's message has made it hard to want to endorse this party with my vote for their next candidate. Guiliani, or McCain in another time, but the white house needs more than just a new face in it.

Old Man at the White House:

One sunny day in 2009, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he had been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."

The Marine replied, "Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here."

The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.

The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton".

The Marine again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here." The man thanked him and again walked away...

The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying, "I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton."

The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mrs. Clinton. I have told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and does not reside here. Don't you understand?"

The old man answered, "Oh, I understand you fine I just love hearing your answer!"

The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow."
