Let’s get to posting about why Burning Man sucks.
I hate this event. I see people posting photos of their adventures to this conformist nightmare in the desert. It is consumerism at its worst, thinly veiled as counter-culture. What many people see as counter-culture is really self indulgence.

I wouldn't call it consumeristic at all, in fact. no major businesses are hawking their wares, no cell phone companies come and sponsor the event. Tickets are expensive, but that is because of a complete lack of corporate sponsorship. those that attend are, as a whole, paying for the whole event.
There is a ton of artwork, large sculptures, interactive exhibits, dancing, innovative conveyances, lots of drugs, and random nakedness.
Many of the camps there have themes and run "services" such as psychotherapy, new age healing, carnival-esque themes abound as well.
It is counter-cultural, ANTI-consumeristic, fairly avant-garde and still a relatively new annual event(about 15 years old or so), but I imagine it will eventually cave into the consumeristic pressures as pretty much everything does in this misbegotten capitalistic nightmare of a thinly veiled plutocracy we call the good ol' US of A.

it seems to try and sell itself as a counter culture movement.. but it is based on self-indulegence not organization to create change.

i already did say what i think juliet.. I think that BURNING MAN sucks.it was spawned from the loins of Joesph Campbell wanna be's who feel that our modern culture is lacking ritual and substance.Therefore they take it upon themselves to manufacture a psuedo culture based on phoney childlike counter culture stances to fill this naive need for validation from other trust fund kids high on acid in the middle of the desert.Joesph Campbell would eat this retarded crap up.There is plenty of ritual in our culture we just fail to see it. i think given our current political climate folks would be better off spending time doing something else.

here's a suggestion;
fire hose+water truck = no "burning man"

... and you can clean those hippies off at the same time.

oh gosh i wish i had the hundred extra bucks to buy you a ticket to burning man this year.

maybe burning man is a great thing to do in our current climate - it's creative - it is ceremony it's not watching tv or participating in the extremist capatalistic orgy that we call american daily life
"to manufacture a psuedo culture "
all culture is manufactered - we all are making this up as we go along - so what - that's good.
