What kind of photographer are you

Max of Sweden - The godless one! says:

The question im asking is into which category of photographer do you fit:
1. Professional (more than 50% of your income comes from photography)
2. Semi Pro (between 0-50% is from photography)
3. Amateur (just or the fun of it)

The reason I want to know is that I have a theory that the D80 is the ultimate compromise when it comes to dSLR, meaning that they are better than the beginners models, but still affordable enough (compared to professional models) so that the general public can access them. S just drop a line on your photographer Status.

Note: The above categories have nothing to do with the qulity of the pictures that you produce, an amateur can obviously produce the same quality pictures as the pro (with the same camera) and sadly there are pro´s that produce crappy quality.

Edit: I just wanted to say that im rock solid Amateur. So far i havent made one cent on my photographs and their quality is everything else than pro (or semi pro for that matter).

Though the % of earnings is so small I'm really an amateur.

Anything I do make, like John, goes towards equipment.

Dan- That might be a dream job of mine....

Maybe I shouldn't say anything, or maybe I am misinterpreting the intent, but why would someone take the time to type "yawn"?

Thanks to a local gallery, I am now a semi-pro based on your definition, but I still consider myself an ameteur.

I think your theory is correct. My D80 body cost just as much as my first P&S (which promised to give me the kind of control I had when I used film - but most of the time it frustrated the heck out of me) The D80 is much better than the entry level DSLRs, but just as easy to use.

by classification I am Semi Pro I've sold several of my pictures and done a handful of portrait sessions and even a wedding. But, I am DEFINITELY enjoying every minute of it! :o)

I agree with your observations about the D80. It is a great gateway drug! :o) awesome enough to use to break into the world of the pro's but easy enough to learn how to really use your camera :o) I think also because it's not as expensive as the pro cameras i take more risks because it wouldn't break my bank if I had to replace it. I love mine :)

Seriously, I think that I'm good enough to sell my photos. I get plenty of compliments from family and friends. However, I think that I would buckle under pressure. But, I shouldn't because I believe that potential customers expectations are probably lower than my own.
