I do some street photography, mostly with my 50mm 1.4, however I just ordered my copy of the 24-70 f2.8 to gain on wide and tele, which seems very reasonable, and my question is, ...

Do you use your 24-70 for street photography? If so, what is your experience? Can you meet and greet the same as if you were using a "smaller" lens? Can you share on some samples?

Even though people are in most cases amicable and respond favorable to being photographed,-plus the value of receiving a free picture-, none the less, at the time you focus there is in most cases a moment of "O.K, here it comes", which makes me wonder if I pull this Canon cannon, would people be more reluctant to participate.

What do you think?

most people just see a huge slr regardless of lens-size, some people dont even see the difference between a rebel with a nifty fifty and a 5d with a huge tele (most of my family, friends and so on goes ooh in the same way) the only people who sees the difference is people who know canons lineup... and use it...

i guess you have tried it already, how do you like it?
I would say go for it. Get some moo cards printed with a web address to upload all your street photos and let them have a free one as a thanks.
I don't do street photography, and if I do, I use my iPhone 4 =P

IMO most people use to associate the size of the lens in terms of zoom, but I use the 24-70mm as my primary lens and it's great for street and everyday photography. Obviously is "a bit" heavier than 50mm f/1.4 (arround 8-10x heavier) so, if you can get a grip with the camera would be great to gain stability.

OT: 70-200mm f/2.8L is more like a shotgun than the 24-70mm f/2.8L :P
