Zoom juddery

I have just bought a 24-702.8L secondhand from a well known camera shop in Norwich, apparently only 3months old. The reputable owner told me that when zooming in or out ,at the low end 24-35ish, it can feel very unsmooth - sticking. He said this was due to the weight of glass, which i believe due to it being a 2.8, and that all of them are like it.

I just wanted to ask if anyone's lens is like this or if they are infact smooth like the 17-40 and 70-200's?

No sticking with mine, I've had it for a year and a half.

Thanks guys - I will investigate further and perhaps return it. Images are great, but it's not what you expect from a £850 new Canon L lens.
