On Jan 2011, Wikia bought the Camerapedia.org domain to start a commercial Camera Encyclopedia. Most of the contributors left to continue a public, non-commercial encyclopedia, called Camera-Wiki.org. This group is no longer used. Wikia relies on direct upload of photos. Camera-Wiki has a new flickr group: camerawiki. See the FAQ below.
Group DescriptionIMPORTANT NOTE :
Past contributions to the Camerapedia Flickr photo pool were made with with the expectation that the images would be used in the non-commercial camera encyclopedia, "Camerapedia.org."
As of January 2011, Camerapedia was absorbed into the Wikia family of wikis. Camerapedia.wikia.com is now displaying advertising alongside the wiki contents. Each pool contributor must re-evaluate whether this violates your image-licensing intentions.
Note that removing an image from this pool does NOT remove your image from being displayed in Wikia's pages. Wikia expects you to edit each wiki page yourself, to remove image links you no longer permit.
Wikia offers its own image upload service. This is now the simpler method for including images in camerapedia.wikia.com articles, if you wish to do so.
Many former Camerapedia contributors are continuing its work at the non-commercial Camera-wiki.org. This project has its own Flickr group.
Group RulesThe original purpose of this group was to be a photo resource for the noncommercial online camera encyclopedia Camerapedia.org, which existed from 2004–2010.
In January, 2011, Camerapedia was absorbed by the commercial Wiki host Wikia. At this time, the site became camerapedia.wikia.com, and now includes advertising.
Many former contributors objected to this, and spit off the independent, noncommercial Camera-wiki.org. This project has its own Flickr group:
…and has quickly grown to be ~2000 pages larger than Wikia's copy.
For those who wish to contribute to camerapedia.wikia.com, Wikia offers its own direct image uploading capability. It is preferable that you upload images directly to Wikia's servers, and agree explicitly to their terms of service there.
Before joining the Camerapedia group and adding images to it, you must acknowledge that your photographs may be used by at the site Camerapedia.wikia.com, earning advertising revenue for the company Wikia.
