Group Description

Flickr's 100 Best has the aim to host the 100 best photographic images on Flickr [whatever that means ;-)] and be an active group. By means of "one-on-one challenges" the photos in this pool are repeatedly viewed and compared with different challengers, until they are replaced by better ones. The intention is to provide a fun, respectful mechanism for constructive criticism, with worldwide membership.

Group Rules

Members cannot add photographs directly to the pool. Only photographs that have successfully challenged an existing photograph in the pool will be accepted in the pool. The photograph that has lost the challenge will be removed from the pool but will be added to the hall of fame

Please note:
Presented images should be your own entirely original work.
Only one challenge per thread.
Each member can only challenge one photograph at a time.
A defending shot can only be involved in one challenge at a time.
Voters prefer no challenger or defender input until after the vote is completed.

HOW TO START A CHALLENGE

Check-out if there is an open Post that is entitled: “Open to NEW CHALLENGE”
Note: Members are not entitled to start new posts. The reason is that we want to keep the number of running challenges within a manageable number.

1. Choose a picture from the pool that you want to challenge with your photograph, and add the following statement below to this discussion thread:

<b>TITLE OF YOUR PHOTOGRAPH</b>

[Medium size (500) HTML code of your photo] *

is challenging <b>TITLE OF DEFENDER’S PHOTOGRAPH</b>

[Medium size (500) HTML code of defender’s photo] *

*This is how to get the HTML Code

2. You MUST vote on at least FIVE (or whatever is available) other open challenges that are marked ”PLEASE VOTE”

VOTING
We encourage you to click through to view each photo larger, and accompany your vote with a constructive comment i.e. why you prefer the challenger’s and not the defender’s or vice versa, trying to include as much justification for your vote as possible. Although adding comments is not mandatory, it is highly recommended. If you are in a hurry, we do accept speed votes with just the scores and a short hint on what was better in the winning photograph, but this should only be occasionally.

Votes are now assigned by providing the score of the Challenger followed by the score of the Defender in the following example:

First vote:

1:0 (challenger scores 1 – defender scores 0)
Followed by voluntary constructive comments

Second vote:

1:1
Followed by voluntary constructive comments

Third vote:

1:2
Followed by voluntary constructive comments

The challenge ends when one opponent obtains 5 points AND has at least a two-point advantage against the other.

Non-adherence to this rule may result in suspension or rejection of your challenge by the group’s administration.

Group Standards and Complaints

This group is about providing a RESPECTFUL forum for constructive criticism. This is accomplished through a competitive mechanism that is intended to provide fun, exposure, and interaction.
With this 'mission' in mind, it is required that members refrain from the following activities/behaviours:
- Maliciousness,
- Vulgarity,
- Vexatious challenges,
- Retaliatory/vindictive voting,
- Blocking other members,
- Buddy voting/ gang voting,
- Taunting, pointless sarcasm,
- Intentionally disregarding rules,
- Just plain rudeness,
- Sexually explicit and tasteless photographs,
Or any other distasteful behavior as determined by the admins.

Also, members must demonstrate a history of participation within the greater Flickr community prior to participation in challenges within the group. Unsportsmanlike voting behavior should be brought to the attention of the group's admins if suspected.

If anyone experiences this type of behavior directed at them from another member, members and admins alike will follow these guidelines:
1. Contact the member via email, and attempt resolution. It’s best to do this by email. Airing your problem in a public forum is not the best approach.
2. If the problems continue, or you are not comfortable with contacting the other party, contact an admin, and attach links of examples of the behavior.
3. Through admin discussion, a decision will be made.
4. Members who are found (at the discretion of at least 2 admins) to have exhibited behavior contrary to the atmosphere of the group, will be officially warned with the consensus of the 2 or more admins. On a second finding of same or similar activity/behavior, the member will be banned for 1 month.
Further transgressions will elicit a permanent ban.
In addition, A challenge may be cancelled at any time by the admins if deemed contrary to the above guidelines.

Let’s all conduct ourselves accordingly; it is just a game after all...

Enjoy the competition!
Enjoy writing critical reviews!
Enjoy the best photos on Flickr!
