Valentine's Day photos

view profile

BBC Springwatch is a group administrator BBC Springwatch says:

Hi all, a bit of a challenge in preparation for Valentine's Day. I'd love to see any photos you have of love in the animal world. A bit cheesy and completely unscientific I know but should be fun and I'll post the best on the blog on the day itself.

A few rules:

- UK only
- Wildlife only (no pets or humans)
- Any time of year (doesn't have to be winter)
- Closing date Sunday 13 February

Other than these, please feel free to use your imagination.

Cheers
Jeremy

I'm not sure love is the right word for what the Common blue butterflies are demonstrating in these 2 photos

and here's a pair of Green shield bugs who appear to have moved on from courting to something more serious

A bit different, but it's Valentines Day and love-related;
I'm really chuffed that Dorset Wildlife Trust has chosen my photo below to feature in their

These photos were taken a few days ago, in my garden. these collared doves have paired up and sit all day on their favourite branch, breast-to-breast. If one leaves, the other will wait all day for it's return, even in blistery winds and rains.

Hi all, many, many thanks for all these lovely pics. As promised, I've posted a selection on the blog. There's so many good ones, it's been really hard deciding which ones to use. If I could, I would have used all of them!

Once again, thanks and hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.
