If you want both editors to see your work, make sure you post your submissions there too. It just takes an extra minute and you do not need a forum account. See: www.flickr.com/groups/apods/discuss/72157634361226070/

Group DescriptionThe APOD Submissions Flickr group is an experimental new way to help facilitate submitting of images for consideration for Astronomy Picture of the Day.
Other methods include posting to our discussion forum, Starship Asterisk, and emailing the editors directly. Due to the volume of submissions and some confusion about the posting of images to the forum, the group was created in an attempt to reduce the complication and confusion of the submission process.
Flickr is a free and straightforward way to share and manage photos and short videos and it is our hope that it makes the submission process easier.
2016 April 07 - Note this group is moderated by volunteers, not the two editors who pick the images for APOD. Sometimes I will change the group header photo to a submission. That does not mean an editor liked your image or that it might become an APOD. So far no one has asked about this or seemed confused, but I figured I would mention it anyway just in case someone is wondering. The header image would change more often, but it is very wide and requires wide, high-resolution imagery to be visually appealing. A lot of images don't look good in it and I am very picky. -geckzilla
Group RulesPlease note that by submitting your image to APOD, you are consenting for your image to be used on APOD in all of its forms unless you explicitly note otherwise. These include Starship Asterisk*, mirror sites, foreign language mirror sites, new media mirror sites, and direct APOD derivative products on the following social fan pages:
Facebook: Sky, Horizon, Universo (in Spanish);
Google Plus: APOD River.
Post as many submissions as you like but it is recommended that you submit primarily your highest quality and/or scientifically interesting images.
We also recommend that you include a small copyright notice in a corner of your submitted images.
The APOD pages are collected annually on a CD-ROM, which is distributed free of charge to educators and the general public. If you would like your image to be considered for an APOD but do not want your image included in this CD-ROM collection, please state that in your post when you post your image.
You must be the image owner or have the copyright holder's explicit permission to post images.
