Hi ALL,
Fully retired, my wife & I have acquired Marilla, a single fin A24, & she looks superb. She has a Mercury 6hp outboard. She appears to be in A1 nick inside & out.
Rather 'green' & lacking experience, I will be asking of your help & good advice in the none too distant future.
Southport, Lancs, is our home base.

Storage of Marilla:-
(1) Ideally, nearby so that we can work and sail on her in Liverpool Bay. I will make enquiries of Liverpool Marina; or a little yard near me at Hesketh Bank.

(2) If not, we have can use son's large field in Hampshire (then sail alongside his family's yacht along South Coast. He has a 19' Cornish Shrimper on a trailer).

I have to transfer Marilla away from prev. owner's house, nr Pwllheli very soon. So is it buy a trailer --- what suggestions please??

Welcome, Marilla! Has she a sail number? We look forward to photos, and if you need to know anything about these great little yachts - just ask!

Ps. You may find someone on the site who can lend a trailer.

Welcome to the group. What is wrong with the trailer in your photo. When she was for sale on the main Achilles site Marilla was pictured on a yard trolley. If she is still on this then it may be possible to just use a double axle car transporter and winch boat and yard trolley on to it. If not then axle stands and again on car transporter.
Or borrow a trailer (make sure it is for a fin with the correct supports). You will need a big 4 X 4 to comply with law. Make sure your licence is ok as well since you are likely to be over 3.5 tons all up.
Or pay someone to move it for you - likely to be a few hundred pounds (>£600) depending on distance.
Can you please let me have sail number and proposed sailing location for inclusion in the sail number list on the main site.
Norman
PS Well done for completing a profile. Your photo is in your photostream but not in the Achilles Group. To do this have a look at the following link:

Try contacting Mike at Fiddlers Ferry Yacht Haven near Warrington. he is very useful and will be able to help with shifting a boat. also a good place to keep during the winter months to work on. Escape from the river is good fun and not as bad as you may think. He will also be able to help with info on sailing from Beaumaris and other Welsh ports. Closest for you and pretty reasonable with be Fleetwood Marina.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful & kind advice. It is really appreciated. I'll let you know the sail number when I get to see Marilla again, in a few weeks. She's awaiting removal to Salcombe where she will be wintered. There are lots of attractions there that are hard to resist. If the budget gets too stretched then I'll move her North; but who knows where she might lead me! Neill mentioned Fleetwood. Thanks Neil. I'll try & download a few more photos very soon. And let you all know how things go.... again thanks to everyone!

You could build a trailer for less than £500. If you are in Liverpool start by going to National caravan breakers in Llysfaen, get a 4 wheel chassis. There is a firm just outside Liverpool that sells used acro props, go to an agricultural machinery dealer and buy 4 short tractor top links. You will need 2 lengths of 60mm box section and 1.2m of 300mm x 100 mm channel iron. Build a frame, like a cradle and bolt it to the caravan chassis.
For those of you that are having a laugh, like some of the guys at Southsea marina, Two of us built the frame and had the trailer completed in a day and I brought the A24 (the one shown on page 7 of Snifter534's photos) from Portsmouth back to the north coast of Ireland on it.

Hi Bert,
Which one is it on page 7? Is it the one in Busledon?
Look forward to seeing some pics of her in Northern Ireland? Where are you exactly?

Marilla looks in really good nick. You'll have fun with her in Salcombe, which is where Amrum spent much of her life with her previous owner.

Yes Rob, the one in Elephant Boatyard. Do you have any other info on it. I will post some photos when I get my camera back from Canon.

I'm afraid not. I just noticed her at the Elephant when I was down there for a sail on a Beneteau 40.7, and couldn't resist taking a photo. Glad to see she is going to be looked after.
