What colour and other questions.

Hi,

I am on the home straight with my restoration and need a couple of bits of advice. Firstly what colour should I paint the topsides given a choice of any from the toplac range? Secondly do you have drain holes in your hatch surround? I am thinking of grinding some into mine as this seems to have been the cause of trapped water and deck rot. Oh and any advice on getting to the bottom of the keel on a triple keeler would be good, im sure there must be a way of avoiding the £100 charge the marina would want to chock her up.

Thanks for the earlier advice on de-rusting the keel. I think i will go for a temporary repair and then a sandblast next year if needed.

Cheers

If you are painting the topsides then I would only use toplac on anything you don't walk on. Use deck paint or add deck paint additive to make it non slip. I have non slip deck paint on paladin and it really is non slip.

On the keel there are many options for temporary repair and those previously mentioned like rust bullet etc or rust converters are OK but if you get a chance then blast to bare metal and go the epoxy route.

Hatch surround? do you mean the garage for the sliding hatch?
If so it should have moulded drains already.

Keel is now done. Hatch surround has no drains that I can see, do you have any photos? And I am painting the hull rather than the deck, I am thinking blue at the moment but am keen to go for the easiest colour to get a good finish with. I will post some pictures of the finished interior later as well.

No photos at the moment. I will look at Merlin later.
Lighter colours are easier , to get a good finish . Light blue good choice

I went with dark blue toplac. Advise I got after the event, 5% thinners warm day, warm paint in hot water to help flow, roller on and tip off with brush. Happy with results but wished I had known this as would be better still. international have full instructions on video from web site.
