I am planning on sailing Little Plum to Cardiff Bay Yacht club on Saturday 25/9/2010 and sailing back on Sunday.

If there are any Achilles owners about on Saturday evening, it would be great to meet you.

Won't be around Cardiff this weekend but feel free to call in Newport Uskmouth SC on your way back home. If you lock out of the Barrage at low tide, you'll be in Newport at half tide and still plenty of time to return to Portishead over the sands after a sherbert at NUSC.

Hi

Thank you for the invite, but I am afraid we won't have time this weekend.

Low tide is at 15:21 on Sunday - so we will need to head straight back to Portishead this time.

Newport is on the list of 'places to visit' - but I really ought to potter LP up to Oldbury to meet Snifter the following weekend.

Had a nice trip to Cardiff on Saturday. We left at 09:30 and arrived and locked into Cardiff at about 12:45.

Not quite so straight forward coming back.

First the main sheet traveller cars shackle failed while we were in the lock, but I managed to jury rig something suitable to replace it. Otherwise known as a lash up.

Then we went aground in the Wrach channel for a few minutes. My fault. I was not concentrating.

Then we passed a green buoy that I was not expecting to see, identified it and realised that we we in Newport deep. Again, my fault, I was letting my crew cut his teeth at the helm. We got ourselves sorted out pretty quickly and were soon back on track.

We averaged 8kn (SOG) on the return trip - wind F3-4 and we had the No1 genoa and full main rigged. We got back, including our diversion, in 3 and 3/4 hours again. ( Left Cardiff @16:30 and locked in at Portishead @ 20:15 )

All in all had a great time as usual !!
