Whisker Pole

Can anybody explain , hopefully with simple easy to follow pictures, how I can make and set up a whisker pole for my jib, I have a spinnaker pole but understand that a proper whisker pole is lighter, and I think maybe shorter.
I am getting fed up with my jib dropping out of shape when running in light winds, and feel that this would be an easier step than going to the trouble of learning to use the Spinaker.
thanks

Have just watched the U Tube film on how to deploy a whisker pole looks really easy on a furling jib and the one they use is adjustable, so seems to substanitate that for a working Jib the spinaker pole might be too big, but definately looks easier than flying a cruising chute or Spinny.
Now I need to work out measurements, maybe a dinghy spinacker pole would be short enough????

Hi Malcolm,
On my last boat I used to use an adjustable boat hook!
I put the tip on the hook through the loop on the sheet and attached the handle to the spinnaker pole bracket on the mast with a carabina tied to the handle. Not fancy but it worked. Handle could be adjusted in length to suit.

Yes it seems that the length is the stumbling block as it needs ideally to adjust to different sails. I was going to give the Spinaker pole a go, but imagine that it will be a bit cumbersome to handle, the alternative was half a windsurfing mast and epoxy in some sort of fitting to hook onto the mast

I agree, boat hook is the way. Make sure it floats or is tied on.
With regard to spi poles and wind surfer masts, surely it would be easier to have a stab at using the spi?

I am suprised the boat hook is man enough but worth giving it a go. Ye intended to give the Spinny a go first as I am lazy and broke so don't want to spend any more money if I can help it (Ron would say i am just tight...haha)

I've just photographed and measured Snifter's whisker pole (photo to follow), and it is 8'5" long.
