Compass Dinghy

busy home [deleted] says:

I ve just bought two new Compass 2.5 Dinghys for £205 00 each.
I collected them ,nr Truro, One for Chille one for Goskar..
What a beauty . Very big tubes 42 i think much bigger than my zodiac
Well made (in china) seat ,bag (big) pump
A bit too big to put on deck inflated but good for four in a chop,
Its going to be a handfull to carry so I will fit wheels (would be fine for two people) More on ebay every 2 or 3 days They start bid at £180

Hello Chille . They are good dinghies, my avon has lasted for an eternity and it is still going very well. Only it is awkward to use with engine for the transom is not wood. See the photo of the rigid one I built for Tocviria which enables me to take it on board is only about 22 kilos and 6 feet 4 inches

That is very smart ,you did a lovely job.
My old zodiac is 15 years old still OK but the compass looked very cheap so I cold not resist!

I take it Ron that you won't be wanting your seat cushion now?

Yes I do please .I will still use the Zodiac when alone as its a bit lighter to carry down the beach .(and up) ! Besides, she is not dead yet.

Ron I hope these dinghies are as good as you first thought, as based on this thread we have bought one. I hasten to add at a fair bit more than you paid, at £349, but looking around this is the average price. I note that they got a pretty good write up in Sailing Todays "Tender Test", mainly due to the large tube diameter I just hope that it will fit on the foredeck when deflated, I have already found it a close on impossible task to get it back into it's bag!
I was thinking of getting a new bag made that will open right out, so that it could double as a cover for when it is inflated.
We are planning on getting the Suzuki 2.5 four stroke O/B to go with it next spring as this too is becoming quite a realistic purchase at around £350, and got a good write up in small four stroke tests

Ive been delighted with mine . Its been left inflated and not needed
any top up so far! I just strap it to to roof (no rack) .The floor boards are very heavy so i removed all but one and the seat , I use the inflateable Zodiac one IOU .. ! Ive found now I can carry it alone down the beach and up by balancing on my shoulder and lifting on a rope lower down . Good idea the bag , the chineese are world champs at making never repack packageing ,
Bring back 2 strokes ,,,, my 3.3 merc is brill (except when you are on board) light and enough for Chille on a calm day, At 100/1 it does not fume, correct mix is the secret, , We still have one Compass in its sealed box . Seemed good value.

You certainly got yours at a good price!!! But i am glad that you are pleased with it, I wasn't sure that I could really justify a new dinghy and did originally want an airdeck but they are just so much more expensive, and would not use it enough to warrent the extra expenditure.
