First attempt

This is link to my set from a show I was at. My brother plays in the band and I am not looking to be a pro, but would like some C&C on the shots.

I have a D80 and mistakenly switched from my 50mm f1.8 to my 28-85mm f3.5-4.5 for more "versatility." I know now that I should have left my fast glass on the whole night. The band was poorly lit and the horn section was not lit at all. The camera was set to at least ISO 1000 or higher, so lots of grain.

Any comment will help, even if it's - nice try, don't give up your day job.
Fun isn't it! Looks like you had very poor lighting and without the experience and some gear it is hard to pull off. The first shot looks the best because of the lighting and the lack of heavy grain. Try noiseware, they have a community edition free download that will help with reducing the noise. Practice will always be the best way to getting better. Cheers!

There were a few other friends of the band shooting too, they used flashes. I thought that the flash would be too disrtacting to the band. Someone there had what looked to be a D3 of there abouts and a monster flash that lit the place up like the 4th of July.

It was a lot of fun.

For some of the shots, l like the grain, others not so much. I was looking for noiseware of some kind. Thanks, I'll have to try it out!
