These hand-folded sculptural shades were designed by architect Poul Christiansen between 1969 and 1978 and have been in continuous production by the Danish company Le Klint.

Poul Christiansen brought innovative and exciting dimensions to Le Klint's lamp shades. Prior to his involvement the shades had been folded in pleats and in straight lines across the pleats. Poul Christiansen discovered that folding in mathematical curves gave the lamp shades beautiful and unique sculptural shapes.

The material is a color-stabilized white PVC which is completely washable and anti-static. Le Klint 172 is part of a family of magical lamps that, due to their seemingly random order, form a contrast to the straight lines of the pleated lamps that Le Klint is famous for.Le Klint pendants are enjoying renewed popularity along with other design icons of the 1960's.
