THE BANDS :

01. KISS
02. ALICE COOPER
03. THE WHO

THE WHYS :

01. KISS - Simply because they are the greatest band on the planet. People who hate KISS (and there are millions!) don't get KISS. It's as simple as that. People have very simplistic views about who or what KISS is about. Bad musicians? No. KISS stick to a formula, that's all. Gene and Paul have never wanted to be seen as tremendous musicians. However, you look at work done by drummers Eric Carr (RIP) and Eric Singer, and the guitar work by Vinnie Vincent and Bruce Kulick - and yes, to a certain extent Ace Frehley -you'll see that KISS musicians can actually PLAY! You know, sod that though, to me rock and roll is all about attitude, not how 'great' a 10 minute solo is. No, just ENTERTAIN ME! 'Course, you can have the right attitude and the wrong attitude - Guns 'n Roses were very very big in their day (long gone now), but why pay good money to see them and then Axl can't be bothered to even show up (as used to happen).

KISS fans are the most passionate fans out there, bar none. KISS are seen as so uncool by the press, critics, other bands, TV, and everything else that the band is virtually underground! A rock and roll band that nobody likes...

...now, isn't THAT what rock and roll is all about?!

02. ALICE COOPER - I discovered Alice Cooper in 1986 on his comeback album 'Constrictor'. That album may have dated somewhat now, but it opened up a whole new world to me - a great image combined with astonishingly clever and sophisticated music from his/their back catalogue. Any person that can sing about necrophilia one minute and appear on The Muppets or Celebrity Squares the next, is fine in my eyes! I wouldn't know where to start when telling people what album to buy (common sense tells me Billion Dollar Babies, or Love It To Death), but I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the School's Out album. Forget the title track for now, the album is laced with jazz inspired rock workouts - it really is quite bizarre. Fantastic. Long live The Coop.

03. THE WHO - They taught KISS everything they know about showmanship; smashing guitars, amps, swinging microphones, exploding drums, windmill chord playing... the LOT! KISS used to cover Won't Get Fooled Again in the mid-80s, and if anybody thinks KISS can't play - then they need to wise up and get a hold of a copy of this live cover. Apart from knowing the singles, it took me a while to get into The Who. I surfed the net some years back and tried to work out what fans' thought was their best album. It looked like 'Who's Next' all the way so I bought it. I didn't really like it, it was a bit dated really, and couldn't see what all the fuss was about. Almost a year later I gave it another go, and BAM! I got it! I then devoured the back catalogue of CDs and DVDs. What a band, what talent, what musicianship.

The Who don't get the credit they deserve in my eyes. Bands like Zeppelin always seem to get the nod from the critics. Sod the critics! Zeppelin bore the pants off me. And Plant? He's so damn whiny! I'd take Daltrey over Plant ANYDAY. Damn, I'd take Paul Stanley over Plant! Daltrey buries Plant, live.

David Bowie - He is smart. He can do anything. The only thing that would make him more impressive would be the ability to be two places at once...or maybe levitation. Golden Years is still one of the creepiest songs I have ever heard.

The Cure - Brilliant music from a guy who never had any other job. Robert Smith was born just to do this. Cheers to his parents!

Human Drama - Ridiculously poetic and exquisitely presented. Johnny Indovina has a voice that makes angels weep.
