Wow. My first trolls have arrived to defend a woman on my account that is so dreadful that I have already had 369 views on her picture.

M: At least he left the Flickr filenames alone so they'd be easier to track down the originals of. Still, he could use a wakeup call.

K: Welcome to fame and notoriety. :) Had to laugh at M's tongue-in-cheek comment about kittens and flowers, and laughed harder at Cleo not realizing it was pure sarcasm. LOL

@Karin - oftentimes, people who are most uncomfortable with what they like will try to deny the fact by going against it. Just ask Ted Haggart.

@Mal - since your shots are all "some rights reserved" and he's not giving you credit for your shots, you've got him. I'd report him to the service he's on and see what happens.

Figures Mal's photos are being reposted on webshots. That's like the myspace version of flickr. I have a free account there but only used it to share some high school reunion photos that I didn't really want to put on flickr. Webshots is fairly strict about some things, so I would think they would be responsive to your complaints. I've heard about this happening on flickr, too. Hard to believe. One of my flickr contacts ended up with her face on a nightclub poster. The creator of the poster was dumb enough to upload their version back onto flickr.

One of the photos that person stole is not even public anymore on flickr. I was trying to report it using the webshots system but I probably can't send them the link of the original photo because their people won't be able to see it.
flickr.com/photos/malingering/137267404/in/set-7205759406...

I'll try to find another one to complain about to them. I can use my free account to do it.

Couple years ago a friend on Photo.net had some of her artsy photos stolen and posted on some photo share service (coulda been Photo.net!) -- douchebag in question didn't count on the fact that the photos he was taking credit for were of the photographer so it was pretty easy to figure that one out.

Like I said earlier: probably a good thing that the guy on Webshots kept the Flickr-assigned filenames, all you have to do is paste the first bunch of numbers in a filename (before the underscore) onto this URL --
www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=
-- and this will not only confirm the image came from Flickr but also show who the original poster is (if the image is public and the All Sizes feature hasn't been disabled).

That is a cool tool, TDM.

I reported this image to the webshots admins as stolen:
flickr.com/photos/68845396@N00/74016353/

Who knows, though. This guy may have picked these photos up on usenet and had no idea where they came from. Maybe from alt.binaries.jellyrolls. At least I did my part in fighting a small battle. I left a comment on the other one saying it was stolen, but I didn't have much time for it last night.

Thanks. I was going to do the same but I didn't feel like signing up for an account. I'm too busy trying to shuffle through all of these vacation photos, which are out of control.

Malering thieves are nasty. No talent of their own. No ideas. Can't see what he's done with yours at the moment. It says the server is too busy.

One down. Sorry I don't have time to go after more, but at least they are quick about taking these images down. Flickr seems to be much slower about it from the compaints I've seen. I'm not sure how webshots knows that it was your image to begin with. That kind of thing gets tricky. Your exif data has your camera serial number, but even that could be spoofed.

Ugh, people on Live Journal love those Cat Macros like way too much.

My photostream got trolled up last week, by two different accounts (but the same person). Mostly liked making fun of my appearance, and my retail photos. Banned both of the accounts, haven't had an issue since.

I guess this would go under trolls, or just flat out Flickr Oddness on my photostream.

I got this comment on this picture, I'm pasting it b/c I might ban the guy if he keeps this up:

You probably know this phenomenon: In advertisements, models are always skinny, with a flat belly and a tiny ass. Many women want to look like in the advertisements. They believe they must be thin in order to be pretty. To be thin, they have diets that are not always healthy, and some become anorectic.

In my opinion, and many men will agree with me, a woman doesn't have to be skinny in order to be pretty. Sometimes, the extra weight makes the the woman look more feminine. In general, men like women in all sizes and shapes.

Of course, health is important.

I want to dedicate this website to pictures of big women. The site's motif would be, that you don't have to be skinny in order to be pretty. Your beauty comes from how you feel about yourself.

I'm looking for overweight models to send me pictures. Nude and illegal content will not be accepted.

Contact me at david@davidstern.co.il
For more information, visit www.reshumot.com/OverweightModels/

----

Yeah, I'm going to submit a photo of me and the last Diet Coke with Lemon fridgepack I ever bought to an overweight models website.
admin
TheDamnMushroom 11 years ago
So he's trolling [in the fishing sense, not the Internet sense] for pix of large women. Be flattered or be offended, but I think he'd like it if you set down that fridge pack of Diet Coke with Lemon for your next photo. :-D And he did say "nude content will not be accepted" so he's not trying to come off like a perv. (emphasis on "trying")

I wonder how many other people he's sent that to, since there's really no lack of plus-size women (some of whom are eager to display more than their soda) on Flickr.

I'm just wondering how the hell he found me, considering that I don't have a tag on any of my photos saying I'm overweight.

You don't have a tag on any of your photos saying "big eyebrows" either. :-D There hasn't been any followup in your stream, unlike the battles we see on some of Mal's photos that go on for weeks, so I think you made your point. :)

I have a "thief" question.
This person: www.flickr.com/photos/demis-art/
Took my pictures from a MSI concert, upped the contrast, and displayed their name on it.
I understand "remixing" but I feel that they did the bare minimum and declared it as their own.

I asked to be credited, i.e. with a link to the orig picture, and they put my "name" and no hyperlink whatsoever. I then proceeded to add comments to each picture that was mine, giving the direct link to the orig picture, which they in turn deleted.

I even sent a flickr-mail asking why they did so little to the pictures and then put their name across it but have received no reply.

That's reportable, right? I'm not exactly an expert on these things.

theirs: www.flickr.com/photos/demis-art/2177447322/
mine: www.flickr.com/photos/11184593@N08/2050081047/in/set-7215...

What's worse is i'm pretty sure they're using these pictures elsewhere, but I haven't found anything yet.
admin
TheDamnMushroom Posted 10 years ago. Edited by TheDamnMushroom (admin) 10 years ago
Yes, reportable. There's a "report abuse" link at the bottom of the swiped photo's page -- click it, and in the drop-down select the "this was stolen" option. You can put the URL of your photo in the dialog that follows.

>>Also, if i understand right, people just can't use flickr like photbucket, right?

This gets my goat. I hate it when people use flickr for like their ebay crap, or to show stupid "humorous" images they get fwd'ed to them from coworkers.
admin
TheDamnMushroom Posted 10 years ago. Edited by TheDamnMushroom (admin) 10 years ago
I'm guilty of posting "humorous" images I've found (no one forwards me pictures they got in email lest they get blocked, ahaha!), so what are you saying there, Anita? :-D

Flickr rules: This is not for eBay crap, or any other form of sales. Which is why some people who make crafty things they sell on Wordpress or t-shirt designs for their Cafe Press sites wind up losing their (most often freebie) accounts here.

I don't know if there's a Flickr rule saying the images one posts to their streams have to be their own (that is the purpose and intent of this site, to display one's own work) but I am in agreement with you, Checkered, and all the others who resent that people will post copyrighted / web / obviously not their own photos. And I don't just mean web-porn or press images of celebs/musicians. There is a Flickr rule against breaking other people's copyrights, that much is true. (And 3/4 of the streams on Flickr would disappear or be reduced down to one webcam photo...)

I often feel compelled when people go ooh'ing and aah'ing over obviously swiped work to post a comment like "If you like this, you should see the whole set over at [URL]." Especially when someone claims to be the porn model in question (notice how that never happens if it's a celeb or musician?). Bonus points to Demi for putting her signature on all those photos she didn't take, to keep people from stealing her stolen photos... which hopefully leads to people snapping back, "no, the one in my stream doesn't have your watermark because I downloaded it from the real photographer's site, like you might have; go piss up a rope!"

No idea who Lyn-Z is, and haven't paid any attention to My Chemical Romance since... don't recall, when they got airplay in 2002 far as I can tell.

Do people who like favorite 100 pictures of yours at one time get to you like they do to me? Its just kinda creepy.

I just banned some kid this evening for doing that. He even favored stupid pics of mine like my moving photos...come on.

TheDamnMushroom 10 years ago
I've only had one person do that -- and I had to drop a ban-bomb on them when the number exceeded 200, with comments on most of them, in the span of 12 hours. I don't recall whether some of the photos were trivial but the sheer volume made me itchy.

However, he was no fun. He just spent 3 days typing 'your ego bruises are showing' into all my people watching pictures. I tried to feed him but he wouldn't take it. It was too boring so i just blocked him. I do think it was funny that someone took so much effort to comment on every photo. He couldn't even do it all in one night. So sad =[

I know this is old, but I decided to keep tabs on this Demis person and started finding the people who owned the originals of the pictures they stole and notify them. The kid had the nerve to crop out a photographer's watermark and add their own.
What a joke.

ps. Sometimes they don't even bother with the original watermark. www.flickr.com/photos/demis-art/2233407934/in/photostream/

Also, you have to log in i.e. create an account to complain and I'm too lazy. =/
