A Confession

Steve Crane says:

Perhaps I shouldn't be in this group; I don't love Malingering. I can't even say that I like her because I don't know her. I do like many but not all of her photographs, but sometimes find her commentary "mean spirited" and certainly find the comments of many of her admirers "mean spirited". I find some of things that you all single out for ridicule quite acceptable.

When my sons were small we had a harness and reins for them. Contrary to the view here that it is like dragging an animal around on a leash it simply allows the child some freedom of movement but also the allows the parent to keep the child safe by preventing them from dashing off in a crowd and getting lost, or worse running into a busy street or other dangerous area. Those of you who decry this practice may just find yourself having a change of mind when faced with the prospect of moving about safely on foot with two small children.

I own and wear a pair of camouflage shorts. I didn't buy them because they were camouflage but because of the comfortable style and roomy pockets. While camouflage may not be my first choice of colour I certainly don't see anything wrong with it.

And now for the nail in my coffin that will probably have you all baying for my eviction from the group. Yesterday I bought a pair of Froggies, which are lookalikes of Crocs, in a tan colour. They are quite comfortable and I don't think they look bad at all. Like any item of clothing there is a right time and place for wearing them but worn with shorts when walking down by the beach I really don't see the problem.

So, um, why did you bother coming here? I really really really don't get why you people pull this crap. That is like a Protestant going into a Jewish temple and decrying the Torah as a work of fiction. If you don't agree, why not stay home? So, if you don't like the photos and the commentary here, why the hell did you bother coming?

Mind you, I don't necessarily COMPLETELY disagree with you, as I don't particularly care for all the things said in the comments. I don't even like ALL of Mal's photos. But I like many of them, and many of the people here as well. That's why I'm here.

BTW, I checked out your photos Steve. Given your comments above, I was quite surprised at some of the photos.

You know something, after re-reading your "confession", I would like to retract that little diatribe at the beginning. You are certainly entitled to disagree with some of the stuff that goes on here.
I won't delete the comment, as I made it and some folks may have read it - I'll just post my "Mea Culpa" right below it here.

Confession is good for the soul. Thanks for being honest. This admin has no desire to boot you for not agreeing with every last detail -- you're not a detrement to the group. You don't have to like every last thing here, no one does, and how you live your life is your own choice. As long as you can laugh at the world around you and your participation in it, you're fine by me. :)

dear God even I don't like half of my photos. I think the most interesting part of all of this is the fact that a "confession" was made, like this is some sort of cult with a no-ugg policy. if we surrounded ourselves only with people who agreed with us 100%, we wouldn't be surrounded by anyone at all.

however steve, you can add to your confessional that you banned me from your peeking panties group because you said i didn't follow your rules even when i did. that hurt my feelings.

What I find amusing about Mal's stream is that it exposes a lot of what we think but don't say. Maybe she goes a bit too far at times, or tags things as odd that really aren't. Nobody is perfect. :)

The unremitting focus on the obsurd, in things we see everyday - but pretend to ignore - is in a way another form of honesty.

Bravo for "fessing up" although, i don't really see a problem. The people who piss me off are the ones who attack the photos or the community. Basically, the ones who don't "get it" and who don't just leave.

Being totally honest, some of your comments confused me. They seemed kinda preachy...but not really. So, i just let them be. (Actually, i think it was only one comment).

All i expect is respect for the community members, including Malingering. If you don't agree, fuck it, who cares. Contribute what you feel like contributing. And don't be afraid to ask if something befuddles you. I've asked a few questions and gotten straight forward, non-snide replies. Just PLEASE don't start a discussion with the idea that you on a higher standing that everyone else in the community...which i don't think you have done.

But then, i'm not even an admin, so who gives a shit what i think. =P

I once considered buying some Uggs, but I figured they'd be too hot to fence in. Of course, maybe they wouldn't have rubbed that spot on my left ankle raw, unlike my new Ariat Ropers which are otherwise rather comfy and have great traction...plus the cowpies in the idiots-who-"work"-faire parking don't stick to the soles.

I've already confessed to wearing socks with sandals. I'm sure I'll do worse things as I get older and more senile.

Okay. I confess. I have an SUV. A Dodge Durango, to be exact. But I don't like it. My husband bought it and I didn't have much say in the matter. I wanted to get a Prius! But I don't drive like typical SUV owners. I still swear at the other SUVs. And I park way better.

Next confession!

cmrowell, I'm totally dumping you from my contacts list! Socks and sandals - the horror!

OK, I'm kidding. And though I've admitted to them before, I'll put these in one place - I drive an SUV, I've considered using a harness on my daughter (but didn't), I'm overweight, and I have long hair that I like to wear in pigtails. I also don't agree or like all of the commentary on Mal's photos, but so what? I DO enjoy her Flickr stream overall and I like the humor of this group.

Yay for our diversity and quirks.

I wear wigs with pigtails and put crocs on the pigtails. I wear two bras, one with see-thru straps. My high beams are always on. Very, very little of what i put in comments in flickr is serious.
