Here's the email I received from him:

"DocUD, I like your photostream. It's fun. You seem like a
nice guy with nice family and friends. Your passion for
travel really comes across. By the way do you know that you
don't allow comments on your photos? Maybe you do.

The pictures of Indian food made me so hungry, I think I'll
order some for lunch. By the way I'll be in Houston next
week, any recommendations for Indian food? It's my favorite
type of food.

I have to ask you. What do you get out of being in that
community with Mal? Do you really find those photos and
comments funny???? I just find that hard to believe. I
would think a nice guy like you would try to talk some
sense into those people. It doesn't seem like you fit in
with that crowd (and that's a good think in my opinion).

P.S. Anita's birthday party looked like a blast."

You can't be completely unevil, you not only read Malingering's stream but you also share the goofball's email. AHahahahah!

Advise him to go to the worst restaurant you know of.

Ignore him. This is what happens when you fight with people online. Geezzzz.
DocUD 12 years ago
Ok, these are good ideas.. I think I am going to go with the "ignore him" one. I don't appreciate preachers trying to weasel their way into my mind!

Of course, i am evil and interesting. I am here, aren't I? :-)

hheheh yes, you are. Or you've given us that illusion. ;-)

DocUD--you are so kind-hearted.

My first impression is that maybe he was honestly seeking out your opinion. Then I was a little creeped out by the comments on the party. And the request for restaurant recommendations is sort of patronizing too.

I dunno--maybe he is honestly trying to make a connection, but is socially awkward. I can sympathize: I say the wrong thing all the time. I went to school with even more atrocious geeks. I have had similar impulses, but not frequently acted on them: here, I generally prefer to go with what people put in their photo streams, for what they are.

And I thank you for posting this. It has given me something to chew over: there is such a chasm, I see, between expressing a differing opinion and the idea of 'trying to talk sense into people'.

who is going to be the one to invite MCNF to our group so he may spread his endless wisdom?
admin
TheDamnMushroom 12 years ago
I beg of you... No. Please. I know that a difference of opinion is what keeps the conversation interesting, but that's just taunting the poor kids. Folks like that would have a field day belitting the photos and their photographers, the waters get angried up when it's not fun and games anymore, and we get endless series of comments on some of the photos. ;-)

But as I have admitted before, MCNF is at least more cerebral than some of the trolls in my block list.

Meow:

Thanks for your nice words. I really didn't think he wanted my opinion or wanted to make a social connection. It would be very weird to go to strangers and say personal things, and try to ingratiate yourself if those were your goals. I think all he was interested in was in trying to get me to stop participating in Mal's circle, and to brainwash me.

Hey, I am a geek myself, so I should know! If he really wanted to make a social connection, I would welcome it. But I am not interested in people trying to preach to me. I can form my own opinions for myself, thank you.

Do you think My New CleverFriend is the culprit here? Because he's getting worse and worse.

Meanwhile, check out the fight that broke out on this photo. It's awesome.

Mal -
He is indeed the culprit. I think I used some restraint when I sort-of replied to him when I re-commented on that photo. I hate to get in the middle of all of this, but here is what he wrote:

From: my new clever name
Subject: Hope you're kidding
if you are fighting in a war for the rights of an idiot like Malingering you have got to be the absolute dumbest person on earth.

if her photos make you laugh even once you have got to be the most dim witted fool on earth.

(that's MY name - not his .... he didn't bother to put his name)
His email really did piss me off - but, like everyone else, I have to have a thick skin. It's only pixels on a screen .... and I guess I am also fighting for his right to be a moron and express himself, too *sigh*

There's probably a reason that assclown doesn't share his photos, or is so willing to talk about his family's breasts.

@violinsoldier - The guy (MNCN) is an opinionated egoist. As such, he is not worth the extra time you have just spent thinking about him. IMHO, only an ass would send hate mail to one of our soldiers. The dude deserves a lifetime of obscurity, not attention. I'd just ignore the fool.

While I'm here, let me just say thanks again Patrick. There are more of us (who appreciate the sacrifice you and the others are making for us) than there are of them (the opinionated egoists).

violinsoldier,

Some people like MNCN are like energy monsters. The more attention they get, the bigger and more assholish they become. Try to ignore him and don't give him the attention that he so craves and he'll shrink up and go away. The only thing, IMO, that he's mostly pissed off about is that Mal's account is getting more attention than his.

There's only one use for assholes like him - entertainment for the rest of us.

And I also must add my thanks to you. You're doing something that a lot of us don't have the guts to do. Your pictures are really interesting and give a unique insight to what's going on over there. I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Violinsoldier:
Yes, you did use admirable restraint when you replied to him. It's unbelievable that he was this rude to you. I would have been furious, in your shoes..

Also want to echo the others' sentiments regarding you and your photostream. It's wonderful!

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and support :) I definitely appreciate it very much.

He did write me back and half-way apologized, but still couldn't resist getting in more swipes, etc:

From: my new clever name
Subject: Apologies

Sorry for my harsh message. I sincerely hope you return home soon in good health.

I'm not saying Malingering doesn't have the "right" to do what she does, I'm just saying that it's wrong. What is so interesting about someone posting pictures of unknowing strangers and then ridiculing and insulting them?

Being willing to die for our rights is one thing, being willing to die for Malingering's rights to be a complete ass to her fellow Americans hardly seems worth it. I'd rather you live than do that personally.

Be safe

(end of his message)

I should also add that at least in America, people have the right to wear nearly any gawd-awful thing they want, go out in public as they want (within the law), just as they risk getting photographed or even filmed (also per the law). That said, at least women in America don't have to wear these, even though some probably should (some men, too):

I was going to guess that it was a PETA person that sent the hate mail. Good to find out that even they would not go to the extremes that MNCN would go to. I thought he went away. Can't believe he's still that worked up about these things. I actually liked his minimalist photos. Just a personal preference.

I think it is flickr jealousy. I used to get that sometimes when I would see a less worthy photo getting a lot of attention. But, I didn't go out and get pissed off about it. The best way to attract a following for your photos is to build a community of people that appreciate them. You don't do that by bad mouthing other users.

Gotta add my appreciation for violinsoldier, too, and all of your buddies over there. Great photo stream.

MNCN is monstrously self-absorbed. If you insist on waging a pissing contest, there are certain things that you don't use as ammunition. Religion is one. Patriotism is another. One's willingness to lay one's life down for patriotism and the right to freely practice religion...well, that's the trifecta.

Regardless of what people might think about the stated reasons for the war and the quality of its political management, you have to respect the qualities of a person who has volunteered for any war that might come, to protect us all. Violinsoldier, block MNCN on Flickr, plonk him on your e-mail filter, and thereby obliterate him from your life.

All right, if I hadn't already been blocking him, I'd certainly be blocking him now. What a cretin. And a creep.

"I'm just saying that it's wrong. What is so interesting about someone posting pictures of unknowing strangers and then ridiculing and insulting them?"

By this logic, anything uninteresting is wrong? So photos of flowers are wrong? And other people posting photos of their teething kids is wrong too, because that sort of bores me.

And if it's so uninteresting, why does he keep this up? I'm confused.
