More admins but also...

...a little ruling. Since anyone can join and I don't fancy the group being flooded by kids who think they're cool, I've put a photos per day limit. If you disagree with this, change it, we have a few more admins now too.

As for making more people admins, just use your common sense and stuff, it should work, despite the stuff thrown in our faces, it seems to me that we are a fairly together, responsible bunch of adults disgusted at the lack of sense of the man and woman on the street.

Ok, I need to stop procrastinating.

Love the new group icon, by the way!

You're welcome. :-D

I might be the only one who would be affected by a photos per day limit, but that just means the fun gets spread out over time... right?

So far we haven't had any k-rad k00l k1dz join and post/speak/fart so I think we're okay so far. It's the people who hate M's style of work and snark on anything like it that we gotta be on guard for... which to date also hasn't happened.

You know, I was thinking of you when I was pondering whether to add: Is there some way admins can be immune to the posting limit?

You'll notice a disturbing trend... Malingering just changed her icon to the photo of her being held by Speedo Guy, mere days after I changed the fangroup's icon to the Speedo Guy.

That's cool. But just don't let Amir know that he's an icon (okay, the computer kind, since he is an icon of sorts) or he'll want royalties. :) :) :)

i hate to be a downer ....but i think out of respect for Malinngering, there needs to be some kind of screening of shots. Some of these pics, while they are ok, dont rise to the level of Malingering`s

I know, but until someone comes up with a precise checklist of what is a "Malingering", we'll just have to live with the tediousness of it all... ;-)

I've removed ones which didn't really fit. The rest, hmm, giving the benefit of the doubt for the above reason.

how about if we don't agree that one belongs here, we all leave rude comments on it about why they have no morals and tell that person how to be a better human being

Heh heh heh, that seems to be the sport of the day... especially if there are homeless people in the frame. ;-)

There is a requirement called Malingeringness, and it must be met.

Also, we can randomly tag and comment on photos on Flickr with "You've been Malingered", making finding your way here a sort of test of mental abilities. ;-)

I'm loving all the new group members.

However, some of the pictures uploaded lately are just not very Malingering...

So I'll go all despotic and simply remove the ones that are just not THAT impressive. Whining about having one's pic removed will be greeted with utter flaming. So there.

In other news, yay, it's Friday.

Speaking of, where have you been, young lady? Your absence has been conspicuous.

Being an admin of course means you can be despotic. I've removed a few myself.

Damn straight, Friday, but it needs to be 10:04pm, not 12:04am!

Pah, it's 9.55 here, quit moaning!

I've been in France, my grandmother has a house by the sea...

And yes, being admin gives you all the rights, res prima noctae and all. Especially if you are the group founder. *Scaramanga laugh*

Can I say another thing? Capturing people who by some unfortunate coincidence have had a bum deal in life for the hell of it is somehow not funny to me. Random beggers who do nothing apart from begging are a sad thing, not something to be photographed in this context. If they are doing really unusual stuff, ok, I see the interest in that but I don't think this group is a freak show in the traditional sense, it's about people who have consciously chosen to dress/eat/park/behave/have operations in a way most sane and/or educated people just wouldn't.

*end of sermon*

Welcome back, founder-goddess. :) I'm complaining because I have a bunch of fun things planned for Saturday, thus I need to get through the aggrivation of Friday, a day which hasn't even started yet.

Words on that thing: I'm inclined to agree, though bear in mind not everything Malingering photographs is for the sake of laughs and the same can be said for most of us. There are probably showcases on Flickr for street people; "unfortunate circumstance beyond one's control" is broad and some pix we like could be classified as such (not all obesity was a conscious choice!), and I know I have a photo or two of people holding cardboard signs, but that's not the predominant or even invasive thread. Are there specific photos you have in mind regarding your sermon as being not fun/funny?

I have recently started a group called "robbing the homeless of their dignity" so people can post there if they wish. I guess I'll keep my homeless pics off this group as people seem all uptight about them.

Excuse me? Uptight? Do tell us what else you consider uptight, I'm sure it would make for riveting reading.
But simply consider this - if it was you, your friends or your family, would you want pictures spread on the internet? And please think about it properly before you say yes out of pure stubborness.

Zervas says:

yeah, that response is a little uptight. no, I wouldn't want pictures of myself, friends or family spread over the internet. If something is in public and interesting to me I'm going to photograph it. Since this is your group I'm respecting your wishes and not posting pictures of homeless people here but I'm not going to stop photographing or stop putting my pictures up on flickr. I'm sorry if you don't like that but that's the way it is. If you want to have a discussion about photographing homeless people, fine but lets do it in a group where I actually post pictures of homeless people.

Kittster is a group administrator Kittster says:

The thing I take issue with is you calling me uptight for stating that this group is not the place for that kind of thing. It has it's place, drawing attention to something that is ill in this world but the general mood here is not right for it. At least in my opinion. If another admin thinks that is wrong, then he needs to say so.

What I meant was, should you or your loved ones find yourselves homeless, would you want people taking pictures of it? Characterising poverty like some freakshow that reminds of our blessed existence without helping combat it? Don't think so...

If the pictures are taken with humanity and sensibility, they can be powerful and beautiful. But then it's art and not a random snapshot of something that made us giggle. Of course art is hard to define and I use it only as a stand in for something that I hope is generally understood.

<devil's advocate>
If I was homeless, I would actually be happy (if I still had my mental bearings) if someone put my picture up online, because that would:
a) let my loved ones know I was still alive and surviving
b) cue my friends and family in to the fact that I NEED HELP
b) put a face to a normally invisible sector of society which needs recognision

I think we all mean the same thing essentially, at least hopefully.

In simple terms, don't poke fun at those who have been dealt a bad hand by life.

Malingering is a group administrator Malingering says:

i try to limit my fun poking to people who consciously make bad decisions.
-tramp stamp/other lame tattoo: bad decision
-3 inch wide muffin top: bad decision
-cursing at me for no apparent reason: bad decision
-purcahsing $200 doll for kid to drag around at the grove: bad decision
-cutting me off on the street: bad decision
i don't limit my photo taking to those things, but those are the things i am allowed to laugh at without any trolls making me feel guilty.

You can laugh at whatever you like - I wouldn't give the trolls the POWER to make me feel guilty if I were you. Their lives are so pure and perfect that they can judge YOU? I don't think so.
You do not actively seek out these badly dressed people, they appear without invitation all over the place. Just because you document it doesn't make you a bad person.

There. Now I feel better.

I'll only take pictures of people that I would typically comment on, even without my camera. And I'm a smartass, so I could take pictures of quite a few.

I don't really comment on homeless people though. I know they're there, don't get me wrong. But I want to take pictures of people that make me (and potentially others) laugh. Homeless people are, frankly, a depressing subject. At least for me.

I'll leave it up to someone who can document them better than me.
