“Tough” meant it was an uncompromising image, something that came from your gut, out of instinct, raw, of the moment, something that couldn't be described in any other way. So it was TOUGH. Tough to like, tough to see, tough to make, tough to understand. The tougher they were the more beautiful they became. It was our language. - Joel Meyerowitz (from the book BYSTANDER)

Group DescriptionThis group is a nod to the book by Daido Moriyama "Sashin yo Sayonara" or "Farewell Photography" - photographs that aren't necessarily meant to be seen as pictures, but something more.
The photos in the book were expressed with higher contrasts, abolishing all text in order to emphasize the dynamic, broken, blurred, vertiginously tilted, starkly cropped and timeless photography. Let us keep in mind that this is only a guide to what this group can be as we search for our own Sayonara.
Farewell Photography is life fractured, distressed street and everything in between. It is a photograph, an emotion... an expression and truth as captured within a frame.
The photographs accepted here are both in colour and black and white. We invite you to submit your photos and join in our group.
On Moderation: The photos submitted are reviewed by the moderators before they enter the pool. We will not be able to explain everytime a photo is not accepted, so please no messages about this.
