It does, doesnt it, mine came a couple of days ago

I have a 70's Kodak with a case like that.

One cool thing about it thou, when you are in places where you have to pay to shoot for professional purposes. Carrying around this nobody cares about you. You can shoot your little heart out

And you dont get bothered by all the uncle Bob's asking about ya camera gear lol lol

I Love it! Looks like thee case to have for a G10 right now. I wonder why they chose not to sale them in the states?

Took me forever to find one, but just ordered it.

For those interested in one, its a Canon PowerShot G10 Soft Leather Case model no: SC-DC60A .
Artur81 15 years ago
I'm really considering buying one of those!
Just loved it since I first saw it.
I think a G10 user has to have a case like this!

Thanks for posting some pics :)

I'm also considering to buy this case until I saw the yellow one just now on the internet (SC-DC60D). It's really beautiful but really pricey at about USD 130! What do you guys think?

Just got my G10 a few hours ago, by the way. Will probably stay awake tonight to play with it and learn its functions. Yay!

This is so good!!! I've got an old seagull 205-a that has a similar case...reminds me of all the great filmcam cases way back ;) If it isn't avialable in the States, where else can I get it? I haven't seen any around here in Manila. Probably have to order it. I found a seller on ebay who sells the darkred/brown version of this that's exclusive to Canon club members only. Costs a mint though! :o

I have this same case. I friend bought if for me in Japan and I love it. My G10 fell the other day and the case took the hit without a scratch. And I looks great too. Highly recommended.

Great case, anybody has a link for buying it on the internet? thanks.
It's a beautiful looking case, but I wonder how long that metal snap is going to last.

Is it real leather?
yositako 15 years ago
Marcelo, it's available widely on the internet, especially if you're in Australia or the UK. Do a google search and just type "Canon SC-DC60A". You should come up with lots of results on options to buy. You can also find them on ebay. Happy hunting!
economic trend [deleted] 15 years ago
Picked on up today in Melbourne. It is a fantastic case - really adds to the camera. My only reservation is the need to take it out to plug in the USB cord. But at least you know the port door is well protected!
beaucolburn 15 years ago
how is it connecting? is the tripod mount on the bottom of the case screwing into the actual tripod mount on the bottom of the camera?
Matt@Vancouver 15 years ago
pretty cool!

@lost4words: would you please tell us how easy or diffcult is to take off the cover of the case for making a shot? i mean if you are on the street for example with the case closed and want to use the camera would take a lot of time? thanks. beautiful case but is not cheap so i like to know your opinion.
economic trend [deleted] 15 years ago
There is a single metal button on the base that you flick back and the case is open. The case hinges on two sides with metal buttons/clips as well, so the entire cover can be quickly taken off. Initially the leather is quite stiff, but I am finding that it is softening with time and getting easier to flick back. Hope that helps.

I splurged and got the yellow case from Japan, Its really more of a Golden Yellow, more subtle than I thought it would be. I really like it. The case is much like the old 35mm SLR cases, only with a flatter front. I didn't notice that when the lens is not extended it is just about flush with the extended grip, making the front of the camera nearly flat. It's even possible to put the case on backwards if not paying attention. Good protection, but I forgot about the days of unscrewing the case when changing film, or now changing battery or downloading pics.

I had to order mine off of eBay. It only took about 4 days to arrive from Japan. Totally worth it. I paid 80 dollars which included the shipping costs. A bonus would definitely have to be the fact that the shipping envelope that it arrived in was purely in Japanese. Pretty cool.

I just took a pic of the new case I got for my G10. It appears a little lighter in color than the pic shows, the lower pic is more accurate. The leather is a smoother grain than the black case, with a light interior. Nice fit and should provide great protection.
economic trend [deleted] 15 years ago
In Australia you get the normal leather case free if you buy a G10 before the end of December (via redemption with Canon)
economic trend [deleted] 15 years ago
Sorry - make that the end of January 09!

I've been opening mine the wrong way as well all this time. I figured the huge button was there to be a more permanent closure vs the two little ones.

I tried it the other way, and it makes much more sense. I have to keep catching myself and open it correctly now.
Real David Art 15 years ago
That sucks that they only charge for the case in the states. $138! Grrrrrrr

Cool! very retro! how much? from where?

wow~~~much better than the bundled one!!
I definitely will get one.

The "yellow"case is from Japan. It was available to Canon "club" members, something we must not have in the US. They seem to have been available in the UK also. The black seems to be standard OEM while the "special" cases are in yellow, red, and brown. If you search for "Canon G10 case" on Ebay there will probably be about 100 listed. I bought mine from a Japan Gift company (hint) that included free shipping. The shipping was very quick and they seem to have all the colors. When I compared prices and shipping cost they seemed about the best, although the case was definitely a splurge- the case was expensive, but I thought the premium over a black OEM case was not that bad for a little funk. The prices seem higher since I bought mine, but only slightly.

I got my first SLR in 1967 and am used to the old cases. Most of them only had 2 snaps on the back at bottom and top center. The backs were solid leather as there was no LCD to have a cutout for. You simple popped off the top snap (analogous to the 2 small top snaps on the G10 case) and let the front fall away, held on by the bottom snap. So I concur with the previous description of how best to open the case.

Hi all, I just ordered my G10 today, I get it tomorrow and can't wait. I also ordered one of these cases:

Looks like a really pretty case! If I were to steal a camera, I would look for one in a pretty leather case! I using an old lens bag but looking around for something cheap ... probably one of the $10 Chinese ones!
Hohyung 15 years ago
I really want this case too. I wonder if its any cheaper in Japan. Anyone know of any websites that might sell replicas or original for cheaper than 50 bucks?
Mic, Wendy & Molly 15 years ago
Hohyung the case I linked from ebay above is of really good quality and is $36 from them, can't go wrong with it at that price.
red knot [deleted] 15 years ago
I just received my SC-DC60A case. I really like the retro-look of the case.
fabrys 15 years ago
I also just received it, it's the best protection for the G10, and it's really nice...
Sensel 15 years ago
I bought one of those nice black cases that Canon sells only in Japan the SC-DC60A. The seller on ebay did a good job and it came fast.

But, there are few things about it that I was disappointed with:

1) It does not come with a nicer leather strap that apparently the yellow one did. Presumably the brown and red came with a leather strap too. For the price (even in Japan) not adding a nicer strap now makes it really not worth it for the price IMO.

2) The part of the case that covers the grip on the front could have been molded a little around the grip. Instead it just sits over it. Eliminating the use of the grip entirely.

3) Incredibly, while the round lens bump on the front is there to add extra padding protection to the lens, the back of the case has no reinforcement or padding at all over the LCD. It's just leather and lining. In this respect, the case fails entirely as a protector for the LCD other than scratch resistance.

4) There is no access through the leather to the battery and memory door or the USB door. I think a simple "hatch" for one or both would have been possible and very useful. I knew this buying it but, now, in use, I think it could have been added and is needed.

The case leather is very nice. The chrome screw that holds the case on is good but, the way the hole is made for the screw in the leather base is not well executed for use. Aesthetically it is fine though.

One potential weak spot will be when the leather dries up, the part that attaches to the large snap on the bottom is the smallest part that bends the most often and will probably break first near that snap.

I cannot recommend this case for PURCHASE as, while it is nice to have, it is not worth the high cost in US dollars from Japan with these issues. HOWEVER, if you can get it for free as some in Australia have, it is very fine indeed and worth having, if it costs you nothing.

BrittyBabs show us a pic of the case
outrageous fact [deleted] 15 years ago
When I attended WPPI on the last day, I was informed by LowePro that they had come out with a case for the G10; however, they were sold out already and one had gotten stolen the first day. Even most of the venders were sold out of G10s.

I ended up purchasing a case from M-Rock though it was slightly larger. Pretty rugged little case with a velcro belt hook. It also has rings and comes with a shoulder strap. The owner of M-Rock also informed me that he would be relasing a slightly smaller case in the near future in which the G10 would fit more snug.

Dear SnJPhoto, are you satisfied with the flipbac?
Can you remove it and then replace when needed?
ian stuart 15 years ago
i have this case and ( black one ) and more people ask about the case than the camera !! (SC-DC60D) totally retro .......
frantic ship [deleted] 15 years ago
Photoworks67: sorry for a late response. Yep, I like the Flipbac. Its not really meant to be removed, but I have once and it stays on after reapplying. Not sure it would survive a remove/replace cycle again.

clayboy1: I have checked out this case closely.. seems to be of good enough quality, but really didn t like the white stiching. satin pewter hardware clasp seemed not too positive in latching. Saw package selling at full retail for $69.00 CAD. basically, a free case when purchasing a second battery. fair value there.
The Gastronomer 15 years ago
Dear SnJPhoto,

I just bought a new G10. I'm looking for a fitted case to protect it. As soon as I saw the picture of the tan limited edition case that you have, I fell in love. Can you tell me where you purchased it?

Thanks,
J
Mister Oy 15 years ago
Same here - I just LOVE that tan case!

A link would be very much appreciated :)
christy.donnelly 15 years ago
clayboy1 I purchased that case with the battery. It is a good deal with the battery and I definitely wanted the back up battery, but the case is not the best. I like that it is small/compact, but it will not hold the camera and the neck strap. You have to strategically fold the neck strap to get it in the pouch. It does not have room for the extra battery either. However, the case that everyone is oogling here (myself included) only protects the camera and holds nothing else either so... I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

I finally got the Regular case from Bangkok as the Retro one was not available anywhere!
frantic ship [deleted] 15 years ago
Just noticed the requests for a link. I haven't seen them on ebay in awhile. You will just have to search ebay until one pops up. This is the vendor I bought mine from.

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250350724544

Looks like he is out of them. I did write to him to get another one and he was able to come through awhile ago. You might want to write him to see if he can come through for you.....
morlich7 15 years ago
I think it is a terrible looking retro case unlikely to keep dust and damp out.

I use a lowepro Z10 case snug fit and keeps everything clean. The only issue I see is that the exposure comp always gets moved and needs to be checked before use.
frantic ship [deleted] 15 years ago
Well...atleast the retro case doesn't keep resetting my exposure comp dial....to each their own I guess. I hear a plastic bag and not using your cam will keep it dry and free of dust..... oh ya that doesn't work either... oh well

The black leather case is around £60 in UK but the dark(ish) brown case Canon offer when you sign up to image gateway is just £45 and to my mind a lot nicer. And it arrived in 2 days. It's a bit scary undoing the large popper underneath the first time as it is so stiff you fear something might rip. After a few goes it eases off a bit. As to aesthetics it is just lovely, I haven't heard a Mac jockey in the studio say anything but 'wow' to both case and camera. And mac users know their design...
