Group Description

This is a place to post your pictures taken with a petzval lens. Petzvals are enjoying a renaissance among photographers who appreciate this early lens’s qualities: Very sharp center, rapid focus falloff towards the edges, and often a swirled bokeh.

Makers range from Voigtlander and Darlot in the 1850s, through Wollensak in the 1920s. Many magic lantern (early projector) lenses are also petzvals.

Post anything you have taken with a petzval: wetplate, black and white, or color. .

Group Rules

Welcome! This group is ONLY for photos taken by Petzval Lenses. We hope to see yours! Most Petzval lenses are used on Large Format, film or wetplate.

However these rules apply:

1. No photos taken with any other lens type. It must be a Petzval type.
2. Please Tag or List what type of lens was used. We'd like to know!
3. While the Lomo lens is close to being a Petzval, and is allowed, please do not overload the group with digital Lomo shots.
