I've been using my Canon 30D for about 4 years. I expect I'll probably upgrade next year. I'm comfortable with a difital camera lasting me about 5 years or so. Film cameras last so much longer. In truth, this camera should really last me a few more years, but alas, I do long for more pixels and a higher usable ISO. Damn marketers and their tactics!

How long have you had your current camera?

I've had my Canon XT for 3 yrs and 5 months (picked up second body a few months back). I've had my Sears Super II, 35mm film body for 25 yrs a Canon AE1 program about 8 months and a few Polroids and a Kodak Brownie Flash model years longer!

I have had my Nikon D70s since June 2006. I will be upgrading in the next month or two, after I get my bonus check.

However i will still keep and carry the D70s to shoot with two cameras.

I tend to swap out gear fairly often. I suspect I keep a camera for a good 8 months of so before I find something new.

With my downsizing, I think I'm stuck with this borrowed 20D for a while. But I like it because it's much smaller than those pro-cameras I've been using. With the 50mm lens it's pretty small. I'm a big fan of the small camera bag these days. Small bag - great images is my motto now.

I'd like to try one of those Pentax DSLRs with their flat pancake lenses....

What does stay with me is my lighting gear, though. That stuff is probably more important than what kind of camera I shoot with.

I have had my D-80 for about a year and the D-90 for 3 months.I had some problems with the d-80 (dirty sensor) right before a trip and got the d-90 to use while it was away for repair. I thought about tradeing it in but decided to keep the 80 as a spare.

I have had my Canon 40D since last Thanksgiving -- I would still have my 30D but it got stolen and that is why I have my 40D. I am waiting until Spring to see if there is a MkIV released -- if not -- I will probably be picking up a MkIII and keeping the 40D as a backup body. I have also made the conscious decision to end up with all EF glass - I have whittled my lenses in that direction.

I had my Canon XTi for about 2 years. Last October I upgraded to the Canon 50D. I'm still working on the new menu system, but I love the 50D, especially the larger more detailed LCD.

Canon 20D for 4 years, 40D for 18 months and the 5D mark II should be here in about a month.
Olympus E510 for about a year, upgraded from E300 largely for image stabilization (which proved its value on a whale-watch boat trip).

Got my Nikon D80 for Christmas in 2008, and LOVE it!
pass_lake PRO 9 years ago
I have had my nikon D80 for 2.5 years.
I would only upgrade for low iso capabilities but at this time I shoot mostly with a flash in low light/indoors or long exposures outdoors, where low iso rules.

So I will be sticking with this camera for the foreseeable future or unless my style takes a new turn

I have a Samsung GX-10 and love it, about 18 months old now. The only reason I will upgrade at this point will be to go full frame and I am trying to hold out for Pentax or Samsung (k mount) to go FF to save some money on new glass.

If this does not happen this year will have to make the jump to Cannon/Nikon and replace all my glass to :( if this happens its looking like a D3 will be coming my way :) unless when i see the 5D Mk2 it has the same ISO performance and it feels as good in my hand as the D3 or D700.

All good fun :)

I've had my XTi since Nov 2007. As for my Elan 2E, I picked that up back around in 1997. I did just get an Olympus 1030SW for Christmas. I keep that in my jacket pocket all the time. It's also going to go to the water parks down in FL later this year. I couldn't see taking my XTi down the water slides.

I've had my Canon 20D since they came out in he UK. and I am loathed to get rid of it. though it does tend to stay in the bag now and has for the last year, as my Canon 5D took it's place.

I don't foresee an upgrade in the near future unless I win the lottery or something, as my next upgrade would be to a 1DS mk3 or similar.

On the film side, I love medium format. I have a Bronica ETRSI, I'd love to upgrate that, amybe to a mamiya pro or something, but then it's cost again :D

I don't believe in marketers, if your research is enoug good you can use the camera that fits better your needs... but... you need to be clear on what you need and what you want to do, that way you spend less time and money watching and buying new products and more time producing great pictures.

I have a 5D (first generation)... about a year and a half. I want the new 5D mark II... but only because I need larger files for my work and because I want to experiment with the video feature.
