2006 is the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese Zodiac.
This pool is about Dogs in the Year of the Dog.
All your DOG PICTURES are welcome here. Please restrain yourselves to one or two of your best dog shots per day! Per dog per day that is! It's all good manners really and it will make pool viewing more enjoyable for all of us. Our promotors will see to it that this behaviour will become a second instinct for all our dogpeople. Please do invite all your friends!

NEW AND MERRY GUIDELINES CONCERNING THE GRAND PRICE OF THIS POOL: FAME AND EVERLASTING GLORY

After much considering and everyone’s input so far, here are the pointers (not the breed) we will follow for ‘Dog of the Month’ en ‘Dog of the Year’ elections.

They are arbitrary, extremely biased, not fair and so subjective, but hé, they will work and are simple and will result in twelve lovely nominees from this pool.

Each month we invite five different and randomly chosen members of this pool to select a ‘Dog of the Month’ pic. These five have ‘jury duty’ in the chosen month and may be bribed at will and with all means available. Bare cash is to be recommended. These five are asked to:
1. Review the entire pool of pictures and nominate a picture that best represents that month's dog.
2. They may not choose pictures of their own dogs or pictures they took
3. They must choose only pictures from this pool.
4. No photographer who was a previous winner of the ‘Dog of the Month’ can be nominated again
5. Nominees (both the photographer and the photo) that didn’t win in a previous month may be nominated again.
6. Photos submitted by admins for the group may not be nominated, nor may admins vote.

When the nominations are done, we'll begin a discussion that will feature the nominated dogs and it will be up to you, as members of the group, to vote for the winning dog.

For the Grand Finale in December 2006 we will ask all members to vote again to choose the ‘Dog of the Year’ from the twelve monthly winners.

To conclude: a cautious word about competition in general. Let’s not go overboard on this ‘Dog of the Year’ thing. It is fun and that is all. There already is far too much competition and strife in the world as we know it and this pool is about dogs not about human ambitions. This is no breed show nore are we measuring any standard of excellence whatsoever. Let’s follow the instinct of those beloved dogs of ours. Let’s sniff at each others wonderful dog pics. Let’s howl at those great shots and let’s bark in unison when we proclaim a winner (and when there is a full moon).
