Possible Visit?

Lactose the Intollerent 9:06pm, 8 October 2006
The power station now belongs to Eon UK (at www.eon-uk.com).

My wife and I have always fancied trying to arrange some kind of visit for a look around her 'cloud machine' and when we lived at the marina we never quite got around to it. I understand, in the past, thaey used to run school trips and the like.

If I make contact with them and enquire, and they say 'yes', would anyone be interested in joining us (armed with our cameras, naturally)?

Yes, please count me in, but I wonder if they'll allow cameras on site...

There is evidence of the 'net of the regulations for visits.

And, I wonder if the place is quite as photogenic "close up"?

I would love to have a visit round our local 'cloud machine'! Count me in if it can be arranged.
Okay, well, I'll give it a go anyway and see what they say ;-)

Personally, I'd love to get a shot up inside on of the cooling towers.

A quick Google leads to the name of a contact at the library at the power station. Maybe a good starting place. It's worth asking them about cameras on first contact, as I seem to recall that tis regarded as a "high security" location.

I wrote a beggin' mail to Eon UK, through a mail form on the site earlier today. Want to give it a go yourself throught he library person? The more options the better :-)

I know someone who works for Eon UK as an engineer and is at the power station a lot. I could ask her. Quite personally, I've always wanted a round of golf on that mini-course in the power station grounds that you can see from the A453. ;o)

OK, spoke to my friend and she says that they used to have regular public open days and she'll let me know when the next one is. She did however mention that there haven't been any recently since the "incident". Obviously curious to know what the "incident" was, I probed further and she told me that there was a fatality last July of a contractor on site. ;o(

So who knows...I'll wait and see.

UPDATE: Apparently they are starting the public tours again from 15th January. They are on Tuesday's and Thursday's 10AM and 1.30PM. If you're not a school or educational organisation - you have to tell them when you want to visit, how many in the party and why you want to go (for security reasons I guess).

My friend says if we let her know these things, then she'll personally put forward our application. There may even be photo opportunities. So who can make it during the day and does anyone have any suggested dates?

Ultrastar175g,

I could possibly be around during the day, by prior arrangement.

Are they happy with photos being taken?

I would be interested too. There would have to be a chance to take the camera though. ":-)

Ultrastar 175g, would you be able to find out about the camera issue from your contact first?
