In. There are more names on the list than posts though, how does that happen?

Haha, I thought the purpose of this was to get some new photogs to come to these. The list thus far looks awfully familiar. Not that I am complaining...

Me me me, I want to come too.

If I didn't make the cut you can put me on the wait list. If the wait list does not work out you can sign me up as an assistant.

Yeah, good point Toaster.

The point is to let newbs get active but maybe there are no newbs who want to get active. Guess you can't help the people who don't want to be helped.

Thank you...

I have my own Ibanez electric guitar in black that I can bring to the shoot for props. If there's an amp I can play a few songs for you. I used to know how to do the dueling banjo and U2's One.
Oh, I want to get active and this time I'm gonna shoot something ... or somebody ... unless I don't.
metakephoto PRO 9 years ago
@funkytoaster: the 3 names that you see on the list that didnt post here are myself, shuttercraze (who posted the shoot), and placebo#4 who basically did all the organizing on getting the "blue monk" to let us shoot there.

I'm a newbie. I thought I was number 16th.. but I can take the newbie spot too. :)
It's good being number 16;)
If I qualify as a newbie since I've only been to one shoot but haven't shot anything then feel free to give me a newbie spot and open up another pro slot. I'm easy that way.
All Who Wander 9 years ago
Not sure if I made the cut or not...

I made it to the last shoot, but am definiately a newbie...

I showed up late last time, and didn't realize 'till later there was an organized/instructional aspect to it...

I'm still a newbie *bashful smile*
will someone in a group share/help me w/lights?
pretty advice [deleted] 9 years ago
Well I'm mostly a newbie, but I have been to one lightning workshop. If I don't qualify as a noob please throw me on the wait list.

metakephoto PRO 9 years ago
I guess we need to define "newbie".. In my opinion a "newbie" is someone that hasnt attended a "pdx strobist" meetup/photoshoot.
Is this what everyone else is thinking the "newbie" slot for our shoots is, or am I way off?
LukeOlsen PRO 9 years ago
I like it. I think special slots for 'newbies' is a good idea.
average plant [deleted] 9 years ago
Oh man, I was on an airplane so couldn't post. I guess I am on the waitlist!
njl-photolog PRO Posted 9 years ago. Edited by njl-photolog (member) 9 years ago
Please add me to the wait list, or to the lighting assistant list, which ever slot is open. ;-)
ShutterCraze (NUEL) 9 years ago
I see three camps here for what I think a "newbie" may constitute:

1) person who has never attended a PDX Strobist event is a newbie.
2) person who does not know how to setup an off camera lighting scheme, and/or is clueless on how to operate lighting gear off camera would be a newbie.
3) person who is both 1) and 2) above.

I am leaning towards number 1 above for various reasons.
ʎɥdɐɹbodıd 9 years ago
After a half-dozen shoots, I still consider myself a newbie amongst all you skilled cats. That's why I consistently used the term '1st timers' in my other post. nyuck nyuck nyuck.

photojq 9 years ago
well I'm late, so I guess I'll go on the waiting list, or I could be a newbie since I've never made it to a strobist shoot. Thanks!
OregonVelo 9 years ago
I would say a newbie is a 1st timer. The only exception would be if they have only attended the "learning sessions" or some other pdx storbist event that wasn't a typical meetup where everyone gets to shoot.
metakephoto PRO 9 years ago
@photojq: yep your a newbie (even though your a great photographer to begin with)...see you at the shoot :)

great! am I allowed to shoot or just observe? Also, I'll ask around to see if I can find a band that would be into playing/"modeling" for us.

Tara and I will try and make the social at 6PM

I'd like to make it from 4pm on. I don't have to shoot but I'll bring a camera just in case. :)

@JayCee Photo: There's no need to bring any instruments.

@YouLookNiceToday: You can come anytime after 6pm for the social. And this is also an open invitation to anyone who didnt get on the RSVP list...Please feel free to come out anytime after 6pm to have a drink and eat some good food...and of course talk photo.
ShutterCraze (NUEL) Posted 8 years ago. Edited by ShutterCraze (NUEL) (admin) 8 years ago
OK folks next week sunday is the shoot at the Blue Monk. I ask everyone please check and double check your schedule to see that you will be prompt for the 12:00pm meet time. I expect the photographers to be on-time so that we can go over the day's admin stuff and break into our groups, this is very important. There are some constraints while shooting at the venue and also common ground plans we need to discuss and understand before we start.

I understand last minute cancellations are sometimes justified and unavoidable. I will check this thread for cancellations sunday morning and if a slot(s) become available I will fill them with the waitlist. So I ask if you do know you will not make it please post accordingly even at the eleventh hour. People on the waitlist please check this thread till the last minute to see if you get into a spot. I'm trying to make our "waitlist" work and mean something. It has been my observation that people in the past put their names on the RSVP list and don't show up and don't communicate so, and the people on the waitlist miss the opportunity.

The participating models we have so far are listed on the top of the thread. One more thing that everyone needs to understand beforehand is that the venue has limited space for storing all our gear. So unfortunately as much as I would like for you to bring everything and the kitchen sick, it is just not possible for everyone to bring all their gear. Anticipate to share ideas and gear with one an other to reduce gear on the floor. I hate to ask people to store stuff back in your car, so anticipate to hide gear in your trunk if it comes to that.

I look forward to everyone having fun at the social hour at 6:00pm. Please stay and for those on the waitlist that want to hangout, join the effort to support the Blue Monk by having dinner and/or drinks.
(edit) Actually everyone is welcome to join the social afterwards, not just RSVP'd and waitlist people.
ʎɥdɐɹbodıd Posted 8 years ago. Edited by ʎɥdɐɹbodıd (admin) 8 years ago
IDEA: how about the no-notification-no-show peeps be prohibited from RSVP'ing the next meetup but are very welcomed back on the next. (this is actually the meetup policy from the pdx photo meetup group which I think's a very good idea.)

Also, good point about the gear. I paid a visit to Blue Monk on Saturday night. It'll definitely be a tight squeeze with 25+ people down there with all the gear. I'll be sure to pack light.
OregonVelo 8 years ago
I am going to have to drop out of Sunday's shoot even though I had my shot all picked out. Have fun. I look forward to seeing shots from the shoot.
metakephoto PRO 8 years ago
I was thinking the stage would be a good place to put gear. It's a good, out of the way corner that wouldnt mess with anyones shots.
All Who Wander 8 years ago
How about if you're a no-show, Ken gets to post a picture of your butt crack?

So I'm all for sharing gear due to limited space... any way to coordinate that a little? Should most of us just leave stands/strobes at home?

Placebo #4 8 years ago
I want to remind folks that Chris the owner of the Blue Monk is a huge Red Socks fan and would love to be in a shot. He is bringing a Yankees jersey. Any ideas?
WJPpdx 8 years ago
Maybe Chris is in the loo, takin' care of business and the Yankees jersey is trampled on the floor like old discarded toilet paper.
Placebo #4 8 years ago
Ha- yep that could be fun, we were talking about having him give a spanking to a model in a Yankees jersey too.

You can take me off the waitlist (photographer or as lighting asst.). Not sure if I can make it to the social event at 6PM either. :(

Everyone have fun.

I added the MUA info. thanks Placebo#4.
ShutterCraze (NUEL) 8 years ago
thanks JayCee and njl-photolog for the heads up, people on the waitlist appreciate your communication. See I think this works better for everyone yippee!
ShutterCraze (NUEL) 8 years ago
I wanted to remind folks to label all their gear since there will be more sharing of gear than previous shoots. Also if anyone accidentally leaves an item behind I don't need to post and pray that it will be returned.
average plant [deleted] 8 years ago
Looks like I am going to be out of town skiing for some surprise thing that Rochelle setup. I am taking myself off the wait list as well. Really bummed I won't be able to make it, sounded like a fun shoot.
I won't be able to make this until probably around 4pm-ish so if anyone wants my newbie slot they can have it and I'll help for a bit and then hang for a few to socialize.
metakephoto PRO 8 years ago
@heyheyjk: ok, i've moved up Allan Leahy to the list
Placebo #4 8 years ago
After 6pm downstairs becomes a 21 and over area plus they have booked a "spoken word" (yawn) show on the stage- so we will be moving upstairs for our socialist hour.

Our band is still coming at 5 pm to get some shots- we'll have to practice squeezing. I told them not to bring their gear however because that would be way too tight. So if anyone wants to jump in and practice some band shots feel free.
photojq 8 years ago
I'm afraid I have to bail out of my newbie slot as well. This weekend is just too busy. Hopefully I'll make it to one of these soon!

cooool. I saw that . Thanks, Shane ;))

I see that space is a minimum so people are planning on sharing. so far I don't have anything but an SB800 anyways.

will I be able to help others along the way, & then when it's my turn, borrow some set-up help & advice for my ideas??
metakephoto PRO 8 years ago
@silverwolfe: I'm sure most people at the shoot will be more than happy to share their lights, but i'd recommend bringing some extra AA batteries for whoever your sharing lights with. I just feel it would be a nice gesture :)
Unfortunately i'm going to have to cancel as well. Insomnia has gripped me for the 3rd night this week, and I really don't feel like I am in any condition to shoot. Sorry for the late notice, but I didn't anticipate this. Have fun guys and gals!

A sincere thank you to everyone who participated tonight and especially to our organizers and host. The shoot was challenging, the space was tight. But everyone was mellow and provided great collaboration and patience. I hope to stay for drinks next time. Thanks again, a very good shoot with you all.

Really wish I could've stayed for the food/drinks/chitchat. I'll be visiting Chris next weekend with a few friends to make up for jetting early tonight.

THANK YOU Nuel, Ben, other organizers, models, band and the rest of the magick hands that helped pull it all together--and Chris and Patty (bartender) for letting us in.

Great first get together for 2010. These meetups keep getting better and better ... you guys rock!

Please make sure to TAG your photos with the following info:

Also when posting your images on the site for the models, make sure to change the file names to include your real name (ie. 10010001 John Doe.jpg) So the models will know who the photographs came from and so they can give you credit if they use it in their portfolio.
