I know some traceurs (people who do parkour, which is basically running, jumping, and climbing over and through whatever gets in the way). Does anyone want a shot at photographing them? Several of them have expressed interest in a strobist shoot.

You can see some old photos here, or some of my photos here. You can see a couple videos here or here.

Photography Requirements: All participants photographing models are required to submit at least 1 image per model that they photograph. And there will be NO model releases signed between photographers/models during this shoot. This meetup/photoshoot is for educational purposes and having fun.

Please add the following tag to your photos:

Location:
Keller Fountain, at SW 3rd and Clay. The park takes up a whole block, and there are spots basically all over the block that are good parkour obstacles, thus should be lots of space for several groups of photographers. This is a popular public park downtown, so please be extra aware of any equipment you leave laying around, so it doesn't get stolen.

Shoot will start at 5pm.

Possibly if Keller proves overcrowded, we can spend an hour or two there, then move to a different location downtown-ish, possibly Couch Park near NW 20th and Glisan.

Traceurs: (if you know anyone who loves to jump around and climb things, bring 'em on down)

I could maybe be a speed bump ; )
I would be very interested in this. Count me in where ever and when ever.

Oh, this would be a great chance to play with high frame rates, and repeating strobes. Sounds fun to me! Count me in!
Looke like some action packed potential. Reminds me of the famous foot chase scene in the last James Bond flick. The actor in that was a national champion in this sport if I remember right.

Count me in.

Awesome! If I don't work that day, If I do, i'll be off by 5 or 6 anyway, I'll definatly be there :) I'll most likely be shooting with a D700 by then and It will be a great chance to check out how well it really tracks movement.

My D70 can't track molasses. About 30% of the shots from the airshow are out of focus because it's that lousy. and 99% of the time it was focusing near infinity :/

Hello - can you BRAG anymore?? D700 :)~
J/K just promise I can take a few shots with it okay??
Tom.Lechner PRO 10 years ago
Wow! If only I had an extra $3000!! Still haven't worn out my D300 yet, though. Maybe I'll wait for a 3"x4" sensor digital with in-camera HDR..
thinkable straw [deleted] 10 years ago
Well, I get "employee incentives" meaning 40% off Lenses, Cameras, some Flash equipment...

I can buy an SB-600 for just over $120 new, a 70-300VR for about $350, a D80 for just above $500, a D700 for $2200

Makes alot of things in reach :)

I got rid of a few assets I had from years before, otherwise it would have taken forever to save up enough money.

If I could make a suggestion on the yet to be determined time. I think that afternoon to late afternoon would be awesome so we could be shooting at the "magic hour" and have some nice sky to work with.

Plus Sunday evening will be a lot less crowded downtown than Sunday morning/ noon.

I might not be able to make this one, I might have something else going on but i'm not sure. I'll see what I can do.

Looks like a good turnout of "traceurs"
Tom.Lechner PRO Posted 10 years ago. Edited by Tom.Lechner (member) 10 years ago
Yes, wide variety of "skillz". I'm not liking the weather forecast! Wet surfaces tend to scare off traceurs, but there should be some die hards even so.

I'm thinking we could divide into at least 3 or 4 groups and still have room for the folks to run around.

Do we have an exact time yet?
Tom.Lechner PRO Posted 10 years ago. Edited by Tom.Lechner (member) 10 years ago
Whoops! Updated the post.
I've been telling the traceurs 5pm.

...Yikes, looking pretty wet out there!! Unless the water stops pretty soon, this event might be mostly rained out. There's usually a few die hards who'll do parkour in the rain... We'll see.

Update (2:30pm): So this event is still on, probably fewer traceurs will actually show up, but some said they would, so that's enough for me. Hope to see a bunch of you there!
Mr. Monroe 10 years ago
Okay... So I haven't been to a Strobist meet-up in ages AND I'm doing this kinda' last minute on a rainy day, but I will make it down to the parkour shoot this afternoon. Hopefully, a group of parkouristas will show up.

i'll be there rain or shine..i figured we could always find somewhere thats covered to shoot if its still raining at 5pm....

Yikes again!! Went from pretty sunny to torrential downpour in about 3 minutes!! Now all's quiet again, but everything's wet now. I'm inclined to reschedule this for another day, a day when thunderclouds are nowhere within 100 miles, with 0% chance of rain..

Some guys still said they'd show up to run around, so if anyone wants to risk their gear, they're welcome to! Just beware you might get heavily drenched at any moment. I'll still be there.

Parkour jams happen pretty frequently, so anyone who wants to take parkour photos can come to another jam (see the jams section of oregonparkour.com/forums)..
Mr. Monroe 10 years ago
Just in case it starts dumping again, is there a bar or tavern in the nearby area where we can meet-up, wait out the rain, and/or just quietly drink the evening away?

Thanks for setting this up Tom..and luckily the weather turned out to be beautiful..we just had to wait out the crappy weather for 30 minutes or so in the beginning...

So I just started an Oregon Parkour flickr group. If anyone who took photos at this jam a long time ago wants to, please add your photos to the group!

Can you throw my name in the hat for this one?

This event happened a long time ago, I was just too lazy to mail the participants individually....

There could always be another parkour photo shoot this summer sometime, though.
This looked like a really fantastic photo op. Unfortunately I missed. Sure would be fun to do again. Your idea about doing the old bunkers at the coast would be amazing!
