I would like to get an idea of where each of you would like to learn more about a certain topic. This way I can taylor the support material better to go hand in hand with your learning.

(see list above)

And you others?

again, "I can bring a pasta salad... or potato (although it's not my specialty)"

or I can go with Chips & Guac, since I come from the land of Juanita's chips... you choose!

I guess you can put me on the waiting list...
Aaron Audio 10 years ago
Cyndi makes a killer pasta salad. Is anyone a fan? She could do that or make some brownies. How bout we do both, so I done feel like im free loading!
Aaron Audio 10 years ago
I could go for some monitor calibration and Dodging and Burning, and a side of Mat cutting. Oh and for desert, I'll take a huge serving of the wacom pad. Even though that desert is way too rich for my blood! At least the one I want is.
ttstam 10 years ago
I'll bring something for the grill and some thing chocolate-y :-)
ttstam 10 years ago
I can learn a few things from the "presentation" side of photography (framing, making prints, etc). Will be getting a color calibration device for my b-day, but I'm fairly technical and monitor calibration although I've never done it before looks like something I can figure out. I'm a complete photoshop n00b too, but have played with lightroom for about 3 months now.

I could probably swing some potato salad.

-Can you share what you would be most interested in the workflow syllabus, or if there is a topic missing that you would like to include?

@ Ken and oregonvelo:
- There is still a chance to choose on what you can bring to the BBQ dinner.

Thanks, Nuel.

@Ken

Sorry dude but it looks like you got stuck with the veggie platter this time. I hope you are OK with this arrangement, I dislike forcing decisions on people. Let me know if you have something else in mind. I was trying for a simple BBQ list.
silverwolfe PRO 10 years ago
@ shuttercraze: things have been a bit chaotic, missed 'what I'd like to learn' question ~ but I'm w/oregonvelo, ie/all the above ;)

most of all, I'd love to know the 'correct' work flow order - start w/this, then this... to create the best file w/the least destruction. (shooting for prints)

white balance/gray card - that's a big one for me ~ using a gray card for white balance sounds a bit counter-intuitive ;)

I cut tons of basic matts, just on a $90 32" matt cutter, in case that's helpful.

hmmmm, what else would I love to learn?? oh ~ how to win the lottery!!!

thanks for coming up w/this great workshop!! your suggested syllabus looks wonderful, covers many things I'd like to know more about. (& altho I use PSPXI, I can follow a lot of PS instructions.)
[ninjaphoto] 10 years ago
I'll make it out one of these days. Most likely as an observer. Or an observer with a camera. You never know. Keep up the great work!

All Attendees,

For your information I want to let everyone know that I have two cats in my house. I will have them locked up in a bedroom for the night and also vacuum the house twice before you all arrive. I have several friends that I do this for when they come visit me so it really is a routine chore. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up in case you need to take over the counter drugs with you or pop the pills before you arrive.

Well carp...I mean crap,

This is the meeting I was most interested in as there is so much I have to learn about electronic photo processing and yet I just now realized, I will not be able to attend.

One of my other obsessions - racing - has become an obstacle, or more to the point, I will be at Laguna Seca Raceway in California for the Monterey Historic Auto Races.

I'm sorry, but my loss will probably be somebody else's gain so have at it.

-ken
ttstam 10 years ago
I won't be able to make it either. Sorry.

So, 2 spots open.
amanky 10 years ago
ah yes... but it's looking like your "tag-along" will still be coming down... and is planning on attending this meet-up, from what I understand!?

so, can we still save a spot for taminsea?
amanky 10 years ago
ok, so to further define some of the stuff I'd love to look into/highlight:

specifically from the list:
-External hard-drives and backup software
-What is Aperature/LightRoom used for
-What is Photoshop and Plug-ins used for
-Using Aperature/Lightroom to manage our pictures

and then, random as it may sound... anyone able to walk me through "creating a watermark brush" for photoshop... and-or a simple way to make this happen in LR/LR2?

(I'm sure I can study/investigate the last bit myself online. however time is of the essence for me of late, and if anybody has it just IN their noggin, that little face-to-face tutorial would make me a happy camper!)
Whoowl 10 years ago
I will probably make this one after all.

Video would be cool but I am not sure if I'm ready for taping since this is the first try at this. Maybe if you guys think it went well and the material could benefit others then I would do another workshop for them.

If there is room for more, I'd like to join in. (not sure if this is the proper way to sign up ...)

But first I should probably introduce myself: Went to Japan for a year, lived in Tokyo, took lots of pictures of bright lights, came back, realized that there are no lights in PDX, decided to make my own, bought a SB-800, currently clueless.

I'm interested in the workflow process and ACR.

Thanks!
nikonpdx 10 years ago
I kind of lost track in the posts if there is room or not, if not I'd like to get on the wait list if there isn't. Always interested in honing the workflow, but particularly ACR. Framing and presentation are also on the list of "need to learn more"

Thanks
thinkable straw [deleted] 10 years ago
I might not be able to make it, and If I do, i'll be super late. I don't get off until 7:30 :(
admin
ShutterCraze (NUEL) 10 years ago
@everybody

We are getting close to Saturday's workflow workshop and I wish everyone to please recheck their calendars to make sure you can 100% commit. There are two people now on the wait list and I would like to give them the opportunity to join as soon as it permits. I am excited about the BBQ to chat about anything and make new friends. There is not much social time at shoots and writing in these threads are like writing emails at work.

Please reply back if you think you are encountering problems, maybe I can at least put you on the wait list instead of writing you off. We have a lot of material to cover so we need to start the BBQ exactly at 6:00 and the lecture at 6:45.

Nuel.

@everyone

After running through the syllabus we will open up the floor to anyone who wishes to share a little bit of their own cooking. I'm hoping that there are some of you who will. But please remember to bring a few RAW images whether you demonstrate or not, others can play with your images too. I'm currently running Photoshop CS3 and Aperture on MAC OS X. People are welcome to bring their own laptops or even desktops to hookup to the digital projector.

It is 3:00am and I have finally finished cleaning up the place, I am so drained I think I put things away in my sleep. Thanks everyone for bringing food to the BBQ, I hope everyone had enough to eat and it tasted fine.

I'm sorry if the lecture was a bit long and those that missed the image adjustments really missed out on some cool tips. I really hope that people get a chance to use iTunes and load up the podcasts that I compiled. I didn't anticipate spending so much time with the first half that we didn't get a whole lot of time doing adjustments. All in all I think that everyone took something new home to dwell on. Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions about anything we covered or maybe even something we did not cover. I had fun preparing and presenting the workshop and I personally learned a lot too.

If anyone is interested in borrowing some of my extra gear or also interested in make ICC profiles with my stuff just let me know and I will lend it out.
