I was vegan for about 5 years, even while working in a delicious Italian bakery, it was hell. But it was important to be at the time. I was vegetarian for about 10 years, I started eating fish again in December because I kept craving it and my body doesn't usually lead me astray. When I crave certain foods it usually means I need them. I start getting hungry for red beans when I'm low on iron. So, I don't eat any other animals, but I have enough respect for fish to not consider them a vegetable. I hate when people eat fish and call themselves vegetarians. My husband has been vegetarian for about 15 years, and we're raising our son as such. He can decide what he wants to eat when he's a little older.
It still strikes me as strange when I meet meat-eating sXe people, although I suppose they really don't have much to do with each other except that they both became popular among my peers at the same time.

I have kind of been a vegetarian my whole life, the times I have eaten meat before I turned vegetarian was hot dogs but otherwise I ate nothing of meat, I just didnt clicked with the use my finger to remove the bones and..yuck! I think some of the reasons why I turned out like this is because my parents both work/worked at the slaughterhouse and each time they got home they talked about how many animals they had killed today by the dinner table! hehe.. when i was 12 or 13 I decided to go vegetarian, and I couldnt picture myself anything else. any sort of meat have never been tempting me ever since! I think vegan is a great lifestyle but since I am very picky when it comes to food I dont really dare do turn vegan! But I respect those who do.

Natalie: "I hate when people eat fish and call themselves vegetarians. " I know what you mean, because I get provoked when people tell me that fish dont feel pain, when they actually feel more pain then humans!! hehe..

and the fact you raise your son like this I respect a lot!:) I think you`re boy will turn out great and healthy! The day when I have kids I will make only veggie food until she/he moves out:) hehe..

I know a lot of sxe who is not vegetarian and vice versa, but I feel its normal to me now:) hehe.. But I feel sxe and vegan/vegetarian goes hand in hand because of the ideology of keep a clean mind and body:)

True, they are related in that way. It's funny, because I'm in Chicago so vegetarianism and veganism were TRENDS through and through. People here love their sausage and peppers. (We do have some killer veggie spots, though, I got married in one!)
Even sXe has kind of fell off, just about all the "older kids" I looked up to have started drinking. It's gotten to where it's almost like, "You're STILL straight edge? Jeeze. When are you going to grow up?"
Actually, an ex of mine (who was once in a band that rhymes with "Lies A Fenced," you figure it out) told me this when he sold out: "I'm not going to live my life based on a set of rules a bunch of kids made up 20 years ago." Awesome, right? Well, that's why he's my ex and my husband has a tattoo of his own X'd up zombie hand clawing out of his grave. Ha ha.

They are sorft of trend here too, the hc scene has kind of fallen a bit apart and almost all the "old ones" has dropped out.. and those who are still sxe, forexample my boyfriend is also getting this commenta: you`re still sxe? I really get annyoed because when you call yourself sxe its not for a period in your life, "I`m straight edge, at least until I feel I`m grown up"... what?? its not suppose to be like this!! You`re exboyfriend has been blindfolded or something.. jeesess... Im glad you you found the right guy;)

At his point, I'm 27, I'll be 28 in a few months... it would be MORE work to start drinking or smoking than to just keep NOT doing those things. I don't even know what bars I would go to or what drinks I would like. It's too big of an adjustment to make at almost 30, not to mention I love being straight edge, and I think it's an excellent example to set for my son. I know not everyone wants to be just like their parents, but even if it keep shim from wanting to smoke I accomplished something.

------------------------------------
I think the vegetarian brings as much as a carnivore in the industry cruelty.
The animal suffers less being killed for meat and tortured expotado for eggs or milk or honey. Or for dyes and chemical strange animal.

The animal suffers less being killed for meat and tortured expotado for eggs or milk or honey.
So if the goal is to abolish the cruelty holding the option is VEGAN .

I agree with xvxkelsi :)
I´m vegetarian straight edge for 2 years after 1,5 year of beeing vegan. I had to quit vegan life coz I found out that I have serious problems with thyroid. it´s not coz vegan food or lifestyle! it´s inborn but it´s getting worse without some non-vegan product help. it makes me sad coz I loved to be vegan, but on the other hand I´m happy that I can be vegetarian at least!

Vegetarian off and on for 11 years (was vegetarian for 5 years solid, then went back to meat for 5 years before turning vegetarian again January 2009. sXe now for nearly 5 years. However my children and hubby are not vegetarians, it's though as I have to be strong and yet still put food on the table that my fussy children will eat. I wish I had the strength to raise my children from day one as vegetarians. Growing up in such a meat and dairy orientated country as New Zealand is can be hard. My job is for a major food manufacturer and I work with food everyday and have to argue my beliefs and views a lot. I would love to go vegan but I have some food intolerences (legumes and wheat) that prevent me doing so and I need get the bulk of my protein from eggs and dairy.
