i saw the buttercow once - it was the summer of 1980 - august playing the Iowa State Fair - we were doing some old melodrama routines . wearing wool jackets and 15 pound petticoats - my lord it was hot - we were in a hall with no a.c. in the middle of the afternoon- but the butter cow was refrigerated.

In the mid 70's I was hitch hiking from Washington DC to San Francisco. It was August and I got let out at this exit on the interstate in Iowa and found 3 other people there waiting for a ride and they had been for 2 days.

I deceided to walk to the next exit and it was hotter than what-ever and these two little farm boys kept riding by me on their bicycles and calling me a hippy. I didn't have the engry to kill them but that and the dead cow are my main thoughts about Iowa.

I hate the freaking state.

if you're from Iowa, what are you called? Iowan? Iowite? "hey, jack-ass"? just wondering...
maddog. 12 years ago
I'd hate to pay tax there.
"Fuck, I owe a hundred grand, bummer"
Loan sharks are probably pretty humourless too.

I don't think they have loan sharks in iowa
it's land-locked

these are trees planted in a row many decades ago by pioneers - homesteaders who were trying to conquere the west and makes farms and towns - these trees are a symbol of the spirit of adventure and courage our fore mothers had .notice the golden light - that's real sunset there budddy - I had to wait hours to get this shot

Are you from Iowa?
betsymartian 12 years ago
are you?
freekstreet 12 years ago
betsy - yeah, I bought the latest one. Two nations is very funny, love it. the whole album is great.
betsymartian 12 years ago
I know, I bought it too. In theory I hate it, I hate that kind of music. In reality I somehow can't get enough of it and have it on repeat on my Walkman these days. The album not the song. Which makes it a teeny little bit less sad, I think.
freekstreet 12 years ago
i think the more i listen to it, the more i like it.
