:)

Has anyone ever created a hardcover book with their photos in it? Just wondering the process and how much it costs and if there's a place around town that does this.

Yes, but never from a local source. I use WHCC, I love their books! A bit pricier than consumer type places but well worth it. If you decide to go with them and don't feel like going though the process of getting an account set up, you can use mine =).

Are you looking to do all full page spreads or are you designing as well?

I tried Blurb. Thought the print quality was poop. Haven't tried since. That is my experience.

If you want hardcover i highly recommend there press printed books with "Hinged" paper. I just had my hands on of these this past week and was really really impressed with the build quality let alone the obvious print quality that you get from WHCC.

I'm doing blurb right now. Their customer support has been pretty excelent on being open to call in and answer questions. I did a test print and it worked pretty good. Ill let you know how it goes after I order the finished product which should be around $130

I just had one printed through Full Color. It was SUPER easy to design with the Lab Prints software and you get a 30 day free trial to use it. My book turned out great. I'll upload a few pics of it in my photostream. The book was $50 (8 1/2 x 11). I was going to do it through WHCC but you have to design everything in photoshop (and you know how me and photoshop get along). EASY, EASY, EASY with Lab Prints.

WHCC also offers a free trial of Lab Prints ROES. Also, depending on what type of book you're making I have quite a few layouts I've made I'd be willing to share....for a brownie...

Wow...thanks for the feedback everyone!
Nora...does that mean that I can charge to your account too? ;)

After hearing Kips comment about Blurb I'd really like to see how yours comes out Jules. Let me know when you receive it.

And Crystal...would love to see photos of your book. Upload! Upload now! :)

Brandon...Press Printed books with Hinged paper it is then. :)

With WHCC you still have to design your own pages in photoshop (which is awesome if you are good with it), if not, It's idiot proof and fast through Full Color's Lab Prints. I will get all of my prints through WHCC but until I am more comfortable whith Photoshop, i'll get my books through Full Color. NORA- Let's get together- I make a mean brownie!!

You still get to "design" your pages and create your own templates but it's super easy.

I will get the hinged paper next time- its heavier weight and the pages lay flat. Very nice! I recommend getting the protective coating on the pages too.

Crystal...I'm inviting myself for a brownie too. :)

Hinged paper with protective coating. Got it.

Ill be ordering a few books from WHCC for seniors I did recently. I can give ya a peek before I deliver them. I get hinged pearl and design them myself. I made one for each of the moms this year for mothers day. I've since been ranked as the favorite and they were the envy of the after mothers day brag fest. :)

Yeah I second the hinged paper, I ordered one without and wasn't too thrilled. and be careful to check your color spaces with WHCC if you use their templates. I had to convert them from adobe rbg to sRBG (they accept both, but come as adobe RBG)

It was a silly noobie mistake, lol I was wondering why all the pictures looked goofy, glad I checked myself before I ordered.

Everyone keeps saying WHCC but i have no clue what it is.
enchanted afternoon [deleted] 9 years ago
Nora. I definitely would like to check them out before ya send them off! I'll be emailin' ya...

Max...that's good to know. Hinged paper with protective coating and in Adobe RGB, or is it sRGB?

And Jason...I have no idea what they're talking about either when they say WHCC. :) I'm just goin' along with the flow.

White House Custom Color. They're online based out of the Cities. (WHCC.com) Definitely the best quality place I've used, I won't go anywhere else. When you sign up you send in test prints (4 or 5 8x10s) for free to check against your monitor, and they'll send you paper samples so you know what you're getting. Everything seems high quality. And they send a tootsie roll pop with your order. lol.

About color space, I was just saying make sure if you use their templates that are on their website that you check the color space. I shoot and save all my stuff in sRGB, and the template files are in adobe RBG. I just had to simply convert the template files into sRBG. But I felt so silly, I would copy my images into the temp files and the colors would all be messed up.

@ Max

So im not really following your post on the templates... If im understanding you correctly, your saying that the templates are just a different color space than your images? I know that WHCC printers will recognize both sRGB and Adobe RGB color space and print accordingly, but if the WHCC templates are set to a different color space than your images then that's where the issue lies?

I've seen some books from www.mypublisher.com/
They looked really good. I hear around Christmas they do a buy one get one free special. Not sure if this is what you're looking for...

All I am saying is that the template files come standard in adobe rbg. I save all my stuff in srbg. WHCC accepts both. When I would copy my images into the templates, the color space would change and my images would look funky. I forgot to convert the template files to srbg.

Thanks Cassandra...that's what I'm lookin' for, but I'll probably stick with WHCC being that it seems to be a great source.
