so whats your flavor? what types of cameras are most people shooting. is anyone still a film fan??
noxious kettle [deleted] Posted 9 years ago. Edited by noxious kettle (member) 9 years ago
i use a nikon for 35mm and digital. kind of made sense because most of the lenses i want to use are/will be interchangeable. i'm also borrowing a yashica t4, which is just a small point and shoot 35mm. pretty awesome though. also borrowing a canon ae-1 from my friend, which is awesome too. had one forever and missed it after mine died on me. i also have a mamiya medium format camera which i like quite a bit... guess the point of this all is i don't really care what brand of camera i use .

Film till the end!! My new Leica is the shit, and I can't afford the $5000 digital version.
noxious kettle [deleted] 9 years ago
woah, m6? how much was it? what do you like about it over the m3? where do you live and what times are you not home?

I spent a few months waiting ot find one for $900 or less, and succeeded.

Over the m3.
1)Built in meter.
2)28mm framelines.
3)Reliable 500th & 1000th (The m3 had some issues that fast)
4)Black = invisible(sarcasm)

When I'm not home the camera isn't here. ;)

Alex,

Widest framelines on the M3 are 50mm. You have to get lenses with goggles for anything wider. If I bought a Leica it would probably be an M6.

I have a Bessa R that I'm pretty happy with. Only thing I'm missing are the 28mm lines (possible with the .72 finder).

Loren,

I also shoot a couple Pentax Spotmatics, a Burke & James 4x5 (on extended loan from Kip, I owe him $$$) an Argus C3 and occasionally a folding pre-war Voigtlander in MF.

I shoot exclusively film. In fact, I just got done cleaning my darkroom.

well luckily for me i live by bresson's word, so wouldn't be a problem... nah, but the first lens i would buy for a leica would be a 50mm, but then i would like a 35mm, maybe something wider. then again, i can't even afford one for my nikon so this is getting stupid.

I shoot canon. I have a 30d for my digi, and an 1N RS for my film. I also have a few other canon film cameras. I tried nikon and canon before I bought canon, I just liked canon better at the time. Was it the right choice?

Pentax K1000 ...haven't used it in a while, but I still really like it, and it still works.

Occasionally it'd be nice to have a point and shoot, but I have no idea what to get.

Alex,

Lenses for Leica mount aren't that expensive. They're only a problem if you actually get the Leitz/Leica ones. If you look at the Voigtlander lenses, they're excellent glass at a fraction of the price.

Whazel and I share a Canon Point and Shoot A530 (we started with 2) and we also share a Canon XTI. We want to get an XSI for the live view. Perhaps one day when we have more money we will go full frame.

Sony a300 DSLR, with a plan to upgrade once i've squeezed all i can out of it.

Canon a720is point and shoot, which i love. tough little camera that takes some nice photos.

Pentax K1000 (had some lenses back in the day, but borrowed them out and haven't got them back... yet) & an old Mamiya/Sekor... i forget what model...

I really don't know what I like best, but will definitely be getting feedback from here before i make my next camera purchase.

But have recently made the switch to Nikon D300. I'm also going to the tattoo shop with Maxcaven. (Well..not really..but you know what I mean)

I love the feature of the second shutter release button on the D700 for vertical aspects.

thank the mb-d10 vertical grip for that feature jason, and many modern cameras can take vertical grips... but yes, it is nice :)

yeah once I got my vertical grip for my D300 I was sold. I don't think I could ever shoot with out one.
enchanted afternoon [deleted] 9 years ago
You mean....I can do the same to my D300? Great...more money down the tubes...Haha!
enchanted afternoon [deleted] 9 years ago
Great!....And it's expensive as hell!

I just got my vertical grip yesterday, and already it's my favorite camera accessory (i.e. not lens or body).

I agree with carlson that a camera body says nothing really about what a photographer is capable of. the ability to see potential where others see nothing and knowing when and when not to shoot say more than gear.

I have purchased all but one (5 or so) of my cameras at First Photo...every person that works there has been nice and helpful...I don't get that everywhere...not sure if I purchased any from you tho...

So Drew I am trying to remember you? I just bought the 5D Mark II at first photo. how long has it been since you were there? I know Don and Mike, I 've been a customer for years. awesome customer service but when they get busy it is tough to get waited on
admin
I shoot with a Canon 40D and I have a point and shoot of some sort that I carry around in my bag for fun shots of the kids. I don't remember what kind of camera it is, but it is a pretty shade of pink!

I'm saving for the 5D Mark II. I might have enough money in about 10 years at the rate I am going.

Nate, it's a good time to buy a house! Rates are super low. We are refinancing right now and our new rate is going to be about 4.75%.

Loren, I was the young-ish one that everybody compared (in the back of their minds NEVER vocally (not)) to the zit-faced inexperienced best buy employees... Sift through my pics and your bound to find a self portrait. I'm sure you'd recognize me. I'd link one but I'm on the iPhone right now. :) no hard feelings if you yourself judged me by my age.!
