This is from the head honcho:

It is not a problem for people to share spaces however, each individual MUST jury separately. The jury process only allows for four images per entry and we feel four images is the minimum to really get a feel for the individual artist. This is one way we can keep up our high standards across the board so we cannot make exceptions. I can explain more with examples about how this rule came to be if you need further explanation you can call me. Each individual artist will have to fill out a separate application and send in their own images and pay their own individual jury fee. This year the wood turners society is applying for a group space and they will be following these guidelines as well.

Soooooooooo, if you are interested in sharing exhibit space at the Fair, it will cost you $15 up front and you will need to provide 4 images of your work for jurying. We will still do the splitting of the $180 exhibit space fee by the number of pieces that are submitted. I think a minimum number of applicants must be willing in order for this to work --- any argument with 6?

Reply here if you want to be added to my list. Then go to:

to download the entry form.

Also, we will submit all of our work at the same time, correct? On the application it says to submit $15 and $185.
Just making sure what we really need to do.

i am interested as well, but would like to discuss more the cost per print idea to cover the booth cost.

perhaps the more people who get accepted by the jury, the less per print fee? or we just split the cost equally?

i wonder what's considered a "country craft"...?

As far as submitting all together- perhaps it would work well to meet up at the end of the month (perhaps at our monthly meeting) and combine everyone's applications/images/individual entry fees/etc. into one larger package, so that it all stays together.

We could include a copy of the DPG's mission statement as well.

in fact, i'd really like the idea of those interested meeting up to discuss this before we submit as i've never done anything like this, it'll be the most i've ever invested financially into my hobby, and i'm a little nervous about it all. lol : )

It is my understanding from the note above, that each person will be responsible for getting their own entries in, but one check would cover the "booth." If we want to send them all in at once, that would be fine. After that, we can see who has been accepted and the $180 will be split amongst those people by the number of prints they include to sell.

So, if Shawn prints 30 images to sell, Natalie prints 10, and I print 20 (just for example,) that is 180 split between 60 prints, so each print submitted would have a fee of $3 attached to it --- Shawn would pay $90, Natalie would pay $30, and I would pay $60. That way if someone only has 4 prints and someone has 40, they are not being charged the same amount for the space. Seems like the only fair way of doing it, but if you decide to do it differently, I can go with that.

Don't forget that the deadline is March 1st. Let's not dilly-dally.

I'm in Australia during the art fair (leaving the 25th of June) but I'd like to participate if it could be worked out.
Amanda~Christine 9 years ago
Any feelings about me participating? Yay? Nay? I wouldn't be able to set up or help out with the booth, but I could have everything ready to go before hand. I understand if you guys don't think it's fair (I'm not sure I do!)
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
oh i think that would be fine Amanda.
admin
JustinSinks 9 years ago
I too wouldn't be able to help out now, ill be chasing around my kids at the time. But I'd like to put some in.
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
i don't mind working the booth one- if not both- days. and i don't mind if there are some of you who can't.
admin
Will we be kicking a percentage back to the DPG?
If so, how much?
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
i would assume the usual 25%.

my question is: the booth rental fee is due March 1st and i have no clue right now how many pieces i'd want to put into the pot. how do we cover costs right now? is there a way that the DPG bank account could cover some of the fee- and then at a later time be reimbursed once everyone who gets accepted, decided how many pieces they want to put in?

i mean- there's a chance some of us won't get past the judges.
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
I am planning to cover the cost of the space and get reimbursed later. I am also willing to take the chance that more than 2 of us will be accepted into the pool ( and the chance that I will even make it at all!) We do have to get together to send it all in at once.

When?
Amanda~Christine 9 years ago
I have a pretty open schedule so pretty much anything will work for me except the 19th-21st. The 16th is the Zappia set-up and the 24th is the meeting, and those would have to be worked around. Other than that I'm basically open.

Whenevs. So entries are finished (framed) pieces?
admin
HBRstudios Posted 9 years ago. Edited by HBRstudios (admin) 9 years ago
For the entry form, you need to have 4 images burned to a CD to send in with the application. This is just for the jurying process. Whenver we meet, bring that CD, your $15 check, and the filled out application.

BTW, we will use my tax ID number.

How does Wednesday the 18th at the BU work for you guys? We will make sure the forms are all completed and I will have an envelope to put it all in and send it off.

I think that should be fine.....

Should work ok.
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
OK, let's go with that --- if you can't make it, just contact me and we will make sure your stuff gets included.
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
um. i can't make the 18th as i have class from 6pm-7:30pm- unless we meet later than that?

i really, really want to come as i have some nerves over this.
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
I'm sure we can hang out until then.

And let's meet at 7:00.

fallfaceforward 9 years ago
so for those of you who have sold more art work and maybe been around this art fair scene before- anything in particular the judges look for? any tips?

i don't currently have a whole lot of imagery saved that i think is "sellable" so i want to make sure i choose my best in hopes of making it past the jury.

fallfaceforward 9 years ago
now Brian- if i submit those (or other portrait styles)- will the "jury" expect me to only have that style of photograph for sale? would i still be able to submit landscapes, or black and white, etc?
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
I could only pick from the ones on your photostream. They really have no control over other pieces you bring once you are approved, so print and bring whatever you want!
admin
kenji.ogura 9 years ago
Brain, where is the BU?, are you talking about Burrito Union?
admin
Yes Burrito Union.

Kenji, Would you be kind enough to bring your 5D along? I would like to look at one in person, hands on if you don't mind.
admin
kenji.ogura Posted 9 years ago. Edited by kenji.ogura (admin) 9 years ago
Sure. But, my 5D is the original 5D. Not, Mark 2. Do you still want to see it?
admin
I'm going to bow out of this. I was just crunching numbers and by the time I pay for prints, cardboard or matting, plastic wrap, the entry fee, my share of the $180 and then the 25% kick back to the DPG for all sales, it just isn't worth it to me. Sorry. :-/

YES

JustinSinks 9 years ago
Along with A Mother's Soul, I crunched the numbers and after giving 25% back to the group, I couldnt see how I could make up the costs for getting into this.
Could we consider not imposing a 25% tax to dpg per sale? We arent using, as far as I know, any DPG money to do this, so maybe this would be better? Just an idea.
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
It matters not to me -- but since this organization is the force driving this, then maybe we should provide some portion of what you made to the group.

We can finalize this on Wednesday.
admin
JustinSinks 9 years ago
of course, I would have to sell some prints to make this an issue, so this may not be an issue at all...
admin
JustinSinks 9 years ago
I dont have any problem giving to the group, but we can talking about it Wednesday. I guess I will come and print out the form and get a cd ready with photos just in case, if thats ok?
admin
Any status on this? I am hearing from people outside our group that have been accepted.

Deadline for notification is April 15th, I believe -- give it some more time.
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
i know they were looking at our group a few days ago as i got a call from one of the judges who was having issues loading my images. So... should be soon i figure.
Amanda~Christine 9 years ago
They couldn't read the CD I sent them either (weird!), so i had to email them my images a few days ago.

Check your mailboxes, I got my letter today.
fallfaceforward 9 years ago
and...???
i know there won't be a letter in my box as i got an email today asking if i was submitting seperately or with the DPG. i don't understand how there could be any confusion as my stuff was entered along with everyone elses.
