*** BEGIN-OF-UPDATE ***

When: Jan 10, 2009
Time: 4PM Begin
Where: Beaner's Central - Upstairs

*** END-OF-UPDATE ***

I have been recently inspired by a few things to experiment more with lighting, specifically multiple lighting of 5 or 6 lights with modifiers.

This would be studio setting where I could bring the backdrops and much of the lighting gear, but some extra speedlights with umbrellas and boxes would be useful.

I can bring 3 monolight strobes with stands, 2 30x40 softboxes, 2 umbrellas, reflectors (panel and round), grid spots, barn doors.

Plus 2 SB-800s and one quantum Qflash.

I would like to see this session about really focusing on using multiple lighting effectively and not so much on model posing or technical stuff (though we do have to get it all in sync.)

When? Where? Would upstairs of Beaners work for this? It seems to have close to the space we would need. Other options?

kip: HAHAHA! nice.

Brian: I'm always down. I now have 4 strobes and have been craving a new strobist meet.
admin
I have 4 strobes
2 Wireless Cybercyncs
Several Umbrellas
Beauty Dish
28'' Softbox
Huge Diffusion Panel

I have been thinking of this a lot as well.

Harbor City has a great, Large location, high ceilings, wide open, could have a couple to three stations setup. Moe would have to agree and I would understand if he would not want to.
admin
I'd love to finally get to come to one, so I'm up for it. All I could contribute for equipment is one speedlight.

Amanda~Christine 9 years ago
I don't have the equip. right now, but it's something I've been wanting to get into and I would love to come.
brandonransom 9 years ago
I'd like to come. I've got a melange of old and mostly-not-broken-all-the-time strobes, and a couple Cacti, but that's it.
admin
All you would need for this type of event is a camera.
admin
JustinSinks 9 years ago
Hell, you dont even need a camera, just willingness to learn about light.
Amanda~Christine 9 years ago
Awesome. I'm in then.

Brian. By the thread count... This is a strong YES.

I too have some modest gear to share. I am almost always available on Tuesday/Wednesday evenings.

However. Since it is your brain-child... please just pick the date, time, place and post. Whoever can make it will.

that's a lot of lights! looks like the subject is trapped. i'd like to see this go down
admin
HBRstudios 9 years ago
OK, so we will need a maximum of 8 lights (adding 2 more to the background) so I will provide 6 of them with modifiers, and howz about Shawn bringing the other 2 with your modifiers?

Let's go with Beaner's upstairs on Saturday the 10th at 5:00, unless too many of you say that this is not a good time.

Who will volunteer to be a subject for these????
admin
That works for me. I will bring my Stuff.

Will attend.

Depending on when this is, I'm in. I start back to my clinical rotation on the 12th, so it the 10th is on, I'm in.

I've got a few light stands, 42" & 30" umbrellas, 42" & 24" round 5-1 reflectors & a holder , just one sb600.

depending on who's playing in the nfl divisional games on the 10th...i'll be there. and possibly could be used as a subject.

it's all pending though...we'll know by this sunday night who's in a who's out and who's playing when and whatnot

nfl playoffs rank very, very high on my priority list in january lol

I have some stuff going on that day, but it better be done by 5. So Im soooo in. And I will not be a model unless the photos will never see the light of day ;)
Noreeyay 9 years ago
I'll offer myself up as a subject for the cause. Not my usually thing as I think I look better behind a camera than in front lol. But I'm usable if needed and take direction well=)

You all should conceder bring tinted SAFTY GLASSES, it looks as though there will be lots of flashing LIGHTS!
admin
K. Praslowicz 9 years ago
Saftey glasses should't be needed. I think their retinas have formed calluses by now.

KEWL, Brian are you bringing your laptop? I think it would be cool to instantly put the pic in a PSD with a Lighting Diagram if we find some really successful setups.
Mrs HBR 9 years ago
HBR here -- Does anybody (namely you Canon guys with the tethering built in) have a laptop and means to get them displayed instantly????

I have done it but using a now-defunct trial version of software.
admin
N. Lindstrom Photo 9 years ago
Boy gee gosh, I know I sure do

you can feed the screen to a tv via the AV cables pretty much every camera is supplied with. anything the screen displays the tv will display. if you have live view, so does the tv... if you're in a menu... it'll show...

basically, it'd be helpful and easy to tether a camera to a tv. but some of 'em take HDMI and some of 'em are simple av jacks...

I think downloading directly to computer is the way to go here, if we have the means.

Just to verify, Nate, you will be bringing a laptop and we will use your camera to shoot these and view instantly on the computer, correct?

If anone else has the camera/computer set up to do the same thing, feel free to bring it as well.
admin
JustinSinks 9 years ago
Well I do have my laptop. We can live viewing or i can bring my card reader and those with nikon or whatever can upload and check them out on screen

We are using Nate's system! Woo Hoo!

Yes, the alternative was to bring my CF reader and keep swapping cards as we shoot.

Thank you, Nate!

And for anybody that wants to, Shawn and I plan on being at Beaner's at 3:00-3:15 to get started since he has to bail on us early (where are your priorities, man!)

N. Lindstrom Photo 9 years ago
Yeah, but there's a catch:

You all need to tell me how awesome my Sony is.

Suckas!!!!

I linked up my canon to my mbp, it takes about 5 seconds from when you press the trigger for it to show up on the screen. I'm using a really old version of eos utility.

Ok, I will leave my Digi Hasselblad/Macbook Pro combo at home then.
