man other than Iron Man, i can't think of anything else i saw this year that i loved.

I've heard numerous people say that Marcus Theaters "won't play" certain movies and i'm here to clear that up. It's not that they won't play them, is that they wait to buy the rights to show them until after it's been released for a few weeks so that it's cheaper. So we'll probably get Milk and Religulous just later then other theaters.

I only saw two films in theaters that were really memorable this year --

Wall-E
Burn After Reading
The Dark Knight

I don't recall if I even went to any others, but those three were excellent.

I'm looking forward to the new Frank Miller.

Dark Knight was the only film I think I seen that released this year. So in that case, I cast my vote for Arista Premium 400. Stuff is amazing, and cheap!

edit: oops

You say AP 400 and then you show me AP 100. You're making me uncomfortable.

mister lonely - harmony korine (overall i didn't like it a whole lot, but it has quite a few moments that are quite memorable)
paranoid park - gus van sant
there will be blood - thomas anderson
no country for old men - coen brothers
fallfaceforward 10 years ago
there will be blood and no country for old men both came out last year didn't they?
noxious kettle [deleted] 10 years ago
well, no country was late 2007 (november), "counts in my book." there will be blood wasn't released until january of 2008, so thats actually legit. i can't say i saw of ton of memorable films released in 2008. trying to salvage whatever i could think of.

I pretty much agree with all of the above movies that i have seen. except "there will be blood". I cant get past the first half without falling asleep. Doesnt matter if I skip the first half using scene selection, as soon as it starts playing i fall asleep.

Unfortunatly, I bought 'There will be blood' before watching it. Anyone wanna buy?

The superhero trifecta was the bomb:
The Dark Knight
The Hulk
Iron Man

Also
Pineapple express
Tropic Thunder
Hamlet 2

Sadly, I cant say that I saw any good dramas this year,

i've called marcus theaters and complained a few times. i was sooo looking forward to seeing cloverfield last spring [especially on a huge screen since it was a big movie that was advertised constantly] but they didn't play it til over a month after it was released. then when they did play it they did so on their smallest screen at lakes 10. booo them

also can't wait to see the spirit on christmas day
fallfaceforward 10 years ago
i agree justin that "there will be blood" was bor-ing. i also thought that "tropic thunder" was awful.

"the other boyeln girl" was pretty good but you left feeling utterly depressed.

There will be Blood, to me, was one of the best made films I have ever seen. Daniel Day Lewis' performance was phenomenal.

peteSwede PRO 10 years ago
well here's the best from 07 if we are doing that too.

charlie wilson's war was pretty good.
eastern promises was too.
Juno was fantastic.
American Gangster was great.

(anyone have a good resource for movies released in 08?)
oscar.com doesn't have them.

wildaboutmovies.com gives a complete list of releases.

Thanks, my netflix que is looking more promising now. For awhile I was entertaining the fantasy of becoming a screenwriter- too many duds in a row. Bad movies make it look easy.

Oh and due to repetitive browbeating, added Eagle VS Shark- Jemaine Clement is hilarious. Cheers Nate.

I agree on Juno and American Gangster.

Natalie, can you direct link to the page with the complete list? I can't navigate that site, it is really busy.

this is a couple years off from the topic, but this is a great film "Born Into Brothels". The move is about children that live in a Red-Light District of India that learn photography from scratch.

There will be blood WAS very good for acting and all. The screen play was just so boring. It needed some giant robots or ninjas.
