Okay here are the details so far that have been worked out between me and contacts at each business:

Theme: dark/ black/ low key
Artists featured: 4-6
Food: whatever we want
food cost: ?
Length of show: feb 16th- march 16th

Music: live or stereo? our choice- we'd have to pay for live
Set Up: Monday, Febuary 16th- time to be determined
Opening: Thursday, Febuary 19th 6pm-9pm

Karl- the prints can be for sale.

As for a percentage of sales going to DPG, I think that would be appropriate, I'll talk to Aaron about how things have been done before and what percentage and let everyone know.

tired, lots of pills running through my system, hungry...

...but trying to put together something for a rough draft

very, very similar to nate's posters for our new yrs show...but at this minute i'm not very creative

don't know if more images are going to be horizontal or vertical. vertical images will have a much different look in these posters

*didn't edit out the thin gray border around the image yet

okay, the prices used to be lower for miamiflyers.com and they used to have a special thing where if one side was your promo, the other was advertising for them it was like half off. That looks gone to. miamiflyers.com/Posters.asp $39 for 50 11x17 posters. +12.75 shipping around.

At www.artscow.com/ you get a lot of "free" stuff as a new member, you just pay inflated shipping. So we could get 18 12x18" posters, 50 5x7", 50 6x7" for $30.80. But I heard the paper they use is thinner too. So idk, i guess my deals aren't the best maybe.

We still need someone from the group to be our "host"- meaning they'll stay near the food table all night and pour glasses of wine for guests and also make sure that no one leaves the shop with alcohol in hand. I'll bring this up at the monthly meeting.

Also, if you plan to go to this months meeting (1/28) please bring $10 to contribute towards the cost of food and printing. If you are not going to the meeting, please bring your $10 to the hanging.

Hanging: Monday, Feb. 16th 6pm- please be on time! it's very important so we can coordinate space.
Opening: Thursday, Feb 19th 6pm- 9pm

Any news on DeKats?

UPDATE: We lost DeKats as a venue. They will be closing at the end of the month. : (

So.... what that means is everyone will be hanging in the Tattoo parlour. I believe that everyone should be able to hang 2 pieces if desired- we'll just double up each hanging rod. Frames must have a wire.

We can still keep the light-high key/ dark- low key theme if we want, or everyone can do dark-low key
Even though our food costs have now decreased I'd still like everyone at this point to contribute $10 towards total printing & food costs and if we have left over money we can either decide to donate it to the group fund or i can give you all change back.

Okay so for now I'd like to hear from those of you who were originally to hang in DeKats- will you still be doing a bright/white/high key image or would you rather do dark/low key now?

Instead of matting a white border around my cyanotypes, I could use a black mat. Do you think that would suffice?

And about the music- not too much space in Dominics. I'll let the bands know that they won't be needed.

i think we're going to have it just be 'low key/ dark' themed then as pretty much everyone who was going to be on the DeKats side is okay with that.

Brian i think it should be fine though to still have you incorporate both sides of things together.

Everyone gets one hanging rod each- you can hang as many prints as you feel will fit nicely from that rod. Depending on size, i think that 3 would be the most.

That leaves us with 3 extra rods to be claimed by those who want them. I may want to use some space on one. Brian- i figured you also might want to use some space on an extra one as i know you had hoped to hang 4 prints originally.

I wanted to hang 4 also. In fact, I think everyone did.
About the bars to hang on, there may be enough rods, but are there enough hangers for everyone to hang as many as they want on their rods? We may have to get creative with the hanging... Unless they have more than I've seen, do they?

Justin- the contact at the shop said they had enough hangers to hang quite a few pieces. She didn't seem concerned.

Randy & Justin- extra space is yours, but just not sure how much.

Thanks Nat, but I think we could share the extra rods too. Im thinking ill hang 2 on one, and one on another? Or I maybe able to hang all of them on one, depending on what you would consider "hanging" ;)

i just talked with Dave Zappia and he's very excited and hoping for a great turn out. His hope is to eventually have a new "show" run every month and DPGers get first dibs.

um.... Karl i think it would be a little out of place seeing as it's not a photograph, and this is being hosted by a photographer's group.
but..... it's really up to you.

you could always hang it after this show is over. Zappia's is always looking to keep stuff on their walls.

i'm not the boss though- what does everyone else think?

unfortunately i am removing myself from the show due to financial issues. there's just no way i can make this happen.

Oh boo randy! That sucks.
Though I dont really need the space, looks like i already had two rods to myself.

Nat, would it be a good idea to see if anyone else has another photo or two to fill randy's spot? I think it would look better if we filled the entire store.

EVERYONE!
If you used my sticky tacks to hang your ID tags, please be careful when removing them from the wall!! I had no problem with mine, but one of the others I took down stated to tear at the paint on the wall. Pull slowly.

ALSO:
There are other people waiting to hang their stuff on the walls, so if you do not pick them up today, they will be taken down by Dominics and stuck in their closet.
