i don't know who interested people are with ring lights, but i love them. they're kinda pricey but this option seems pretty sweet. i may have to pick one up.

a ring light adapter that goes on the end of your flash. i'm sure you could make one given the right equipment and time, but if you're lazy like me, here's an option, seems pretty sweet

You're a ring flash.

How many stops do you lose with that thing?

Looks like a version of the RayFlash -- for much cheaper.

Strobist has a write up on this I believe.

I am up for a DIY version. I mean shit, why not?

it would be pretty tough to make one similar to those that would withstand transportation and use

Beers and Dollar store anyone?

but with that design wouldn't you have to hold the flash in place with one hand and the camera with the other?
admin
The Orbis flash is basically the same design, just a lot more polished. You can set this on a light stand. IMHO it gives you more options. Put it up close to the subject and step far a way to use a long lens. You can't do that with the Ray Flash on Camera.

I've made two rings lights. The tejada version worked far far better and was more solid than my other one. They have the work lights at menards for 10 bucks. Then I expoyed a tube that my lens fit through. Works great for indoor stuff, but unless it's starting to get dark, they are death in sunlight

I got a gig shooting a holiday party, and with that money I'm going to get an alien bee ring flash. I'm in love with the ring flash look.

This is always an option too.

I know I'm going to end up making a LED ring light for my camera to do macro stuff. I might beef up the design and make one with tubes for portraits. Electronics are easy, lol.

Here's a tip for the dudes who made them, if you have one with one flash, and you have the flash on the bottom of the ring (so there is more light from the bottom) you get more of that 'ring flash look'. Just some little thing I picked up on strobist.
