Here's what I have so far:

1) The next opeining is Jan 1, the soonest one after that is in May. I have us penciled in for Jan.

2) Im still waiting on an official number of peices we are able to hang, which will determine the number of artists. When I did mine I was able to hang 11, but I think we will be able to do more than this.
They have a professional hanging set-up, like the one at the tattoo shop.

3) They prefer to have an act play that night to bring more people in, so if anyone has any requests, please post them.

4) Beaner's offers catering, I think if this is somehting we want to do, a simple air-pot and cookie assortment would be a great set-up. This comes out of our pockets.

5) Theme? I think a theme would be a nice thing, something we should vote on.

6) I will put together all of the press work for this. If anyone want to help let me know. Advertising will also be out of out pockets but is relatively inexpensive and a desicion will be need to be made as a group.

If anyone is interested in being a part of this, please Flickr Mail me. It will work as a first come-first serve basis. I think it will be a relatively small group, but Ill know more probably this afternoon. Fun is garaunteed : )

Ill find out, as well as your other questions. I know they like to keep the media mixed up through out.

Making this one of the charitable shows that we talked about might be a good idea. I have one in mind but will check into it first.

Meh. I can't afford any of that stuff in order to not sell any prints again.

Well, we did discuss using DPG funds for a showing. This might qualify, maybe even for a portion?

I highly doubt print would be any more than $50 split however many ways.

I know you can BYOF rather than catering.

Nate,

I don't want to get in the way of folks putting up work -- I don't mean to be a fuddy duddy. But people don't buy my work, so it's really not cost effective for me to drop the cost to matte/frame even a wet print (which I have all the supplies to make already). So until I hit upon some stroke of photographic genius that people actually want to buy, I'm going to sit out of show game.

I'll be sure to show up at the opening, however, and give my support to those folks who can actually get stuff sold in this market!

lol, I'm in a band, if you can't find an act, or whatever. I know we can get other bands to play too. Just putting it out there if you can't find anyone else, or you have it on a night no one else is playing.

Theme is yet to be determined.
fallfaceforward 10 years ago
Nate- if Beaner's allows BYOF i say we opt for that if we can use DPG funding- and i'll put together a nice and simple spread. It'll be more cost effective that way and perhaps i can be a little more creative than just some cookies.

throw out theme ideas those of you who are interested: i mentioned "Joy" or "Thanksgiving" to kind of tie in with the holidays.
admin
N. Lindstrom Photo 10 years ago
I was thinking "Winter"
admin
That is a short notice if you want "New" winter shots.

I may be in for this depending on how it comes together, if there will be a DNT press release, etc....
admin
N. Lindstrom Photo Posted 10 years ago. Edited by N. Lindstrom Photo (admin) 10 years ago
Agreed, anything holiday related is cutting it close.

"Passion" might be fun?

Or Natalie suggested "Joy" ?

Please post suggestions.

BYOF is cool, I just wasnt sure how people felt about making anything as it is pretty close to the Holidays.

I will send releases to- DNT, Budgeteer, The Reader, etc......no worries about that. Beaners shows have awesome turn-outs. I also made aquaintance with someone at FOX 21 at my last show. There may be a push there, there may not be.

If you only want to do one print thats fine, it might even open space for another member. I might only do one.

So far I have

1. Myself
2. Natalie
3. 'deezee
4. Kip

i know Sharksurfer wants in.

"winter" for me would work as i would take my own interperation of it using of course, people.

i like "passion" and "joy" i also like "soul". if we get my friends band or just lead singer to perform, they've got some blues to their sound.

i really like the idea of coordinating everything- the food, photos, and music into one theme if we can.
Nate- can you find out more for me regarding if the acts get paid at all for performing?

oh i'm so excited.

I would submit for consideration...

As for BYOF... I would prefer to contribute CASH. Either to Beaners... or someone else. I am lazy that way.

Regarding music... Who is paying the band... or... are they "donating"?

I love to see Southwire (Jerree Small meets Crew Jones)... and they don't play often... I could inquire...

Yeah, throw me in the mix.

As for a theme, How about "Occurrences Not Seen By the Human Eye"
tina_p0608 10 years ago
Im willing to help out with set up and food, whatever. I will be off from school at that time so it would work out nicely, and I feel I need to contribute in some way since I havent taken any pictures in 6 months.
Nat, Nate let me know.

Tina
fallfaceforward 10 years ago
Shawn- please explain your theme more. i'm drawing a blank. lol
admin
Things that can be photographed but not seen with the human eye.

It just happens that I shoot things like this on a regular basis

Basically long exposues. LOL
Makes it easy on me.

Really though, it is probably not a fitting theme and I was sort of joking as I typed it.

Update:

People I have heard from

1. Myself
2. Natalie
3. 'deez
4. Kip
5. Justin
6. Laramee
7. Rich
8. Shawn
9. Brian
10. ?????

I am still waiting to hear back about the number of pieces they can accomodate, but with a group this big it might be 1 piece, of any size, per member.

Tina and Natalie have volunteered for nourishment.

Still need:

1. Theme

2. Band

I am also waiting to hear about band payment. I feel Beaner's covers it, but I need to make sure.

Im not so good at coming up with a Theme, but I agree that it should be very wide in scope. Or LOLcats. As long as I can do LOLdogs and LOLsickCeleste

Um.... the whole "beyond the human eye can see" themes are way over my head. would it be possible since this is a large group of extremely diverse photographers to have the theme be something a little less complex?
Perhaps just to humor those of us who's first show this will be? (uhem me)
admin
JustinSinks 10 years ago
Like girls in crazy dresses and wigs? ;)
I do like the "beyond the human eye can see", but I also do agree that it is very limiting and would make you really work to get something that fits and makes you happy. Of course, I welcome such challenge. Im sure if you put a little thought into it Natalie you would come up with something wonderful.

All oppose say "NAY''

After theme is decided I will clean house and get rid of the awful LOLcats posts.

Possibly, I added you to my list. I am waiting to hear back still. I think the room has enough for 10, but I could be wrong.

I had 12 pieces; one had to sit on a table and another was above a really tall archway. They may have gotten more hangers though.

"Beyond the Mind's Eye" --shorter and more mysterious.

Unfortuantely, I would have to say 'Nay' to the topic anyway, since it may be too limiting. Although Jason's most recent of Natalie would definitely qualify.

But I am still in if this is the topic.

For this topic (for all who care to hear me ramble) I can see including images that are "experimentation" or "macro" or "long exposures" or "very short exposures" or "night" or "photoshopped" or "strobist" or "cross processed" or "high contrast" or many other ideas that apply some kind of technique as to do more than just "record" a scene.
fallfaceforward 10 years ago
brian- or a bunch of things that me, as a newbie, doesn't know how to do.

I say "nay" to the theme, but if it is the theme choosen i still want in. What if we simplify it a bit to perhaps "In My Mind's Eye" that way each photographer can tailor his photos to fit his mind's eye.
admin
HBRstudios 10 years ago
"In the Mind's Eye" is more inclusive -- I like it.
admin
JustinSinks 10 years ago
Natalie:
Perhaps you should take this moment to learn some of these techniques? I don't think you read all of Brian's post. He listed a lot of things that would fall under this theme that I know you can do. "Long exposures" for one, you did that at the creek that day to make the water look silky. And I'm sure anyone here, myself included, would help you with whatever parts or knowledge you needed.
Your "In the Mind's Eye" is basically the same theme as we are voting for. Only "Realm Beyond the Eye's Vision" sounds much more sophisticated.
admin
Hambone Lewinski 10 years ago
Natalie,

I understand if you don't like that particular theme, but I agree with Justin that you're definitely selling yourself short.
