Hello DPG. How is the summer going for you guys? I'm surviving up in the ole GM... (Grand Marais)

Dial up is a pain, but I've got so many pictures to share with you all!!!

Just wondering what everyone's current obsessions are... I'm really getting into that "taking your lens off and flipping it around for the macro effect... "

I've been hammering away at my rummage sale project -- I've got about 100 images so far. Conservatively, by the end of the Summer I'll have 300. If I'm lucky, I'll get 500.

I'll probably start shotgunning proposals in a few weeks to see if I can get anyone interested in showing a set from this project.

I also made me a website. Work in progress www.jnovek.com.

Good for you that you're patient enough to do macros -- they drive me nuts. Edge is showing a set of macros over at the Red Mug in Sup-town right now.

I have been slacking on my photography lately. Went out a couple times last week and shot more nature type stuff (not landscapes) which was nice.

Laramie, Try using a 100+mm lens mounted normally on the camera then take a 50mm and flip it face to face on the mounted lens. Same effect, more magnification.

That is fun to mess around with.

Get to a coffee shop and upload some pics.

I have been getting into macro botanicals, shooting with a 28mm with a closeup filter for a net 1:1 setup. Liking the results, and learning to identify many more plants. Also dabbling with cheap, toy-grade micro photography (20x-100x).

i'm obsessed with finding my own style. turns out i'm pretty damn good at borrowing other peoples styles, but if i wanna go anywhere i have to dial mine in. so... ironically enough, i'm researching as many people as i can... trying MORE people's styles, and will be taking another look at where i'm at in a few months to see if i like it.

i've been heading out of town for the summer's (european) car shows. My club's show this passed weekend in Minneapolis went very well and i was fortunate enough to shoot it for a couple of magazines I read.

this'll be my first time having the oppurtunity to have stuff published. and it's not a very big deal as far as how show coverage goes in these mags, but i'm still really pumped.

ick for dialup. good luck with that man.

I still haven't realized it's summer. My dad's been working on our backyard so we don't have our pool up this year. (And I'm not one to go to the beach. People in swimming suits freak me OUT.)
I've been working quite frequently... this is my third month at Starbucks now, and I've already got about $700 towards a new camera.
It's really bringing me down not being able to take any photos... and I have to spend all of my tip money to afford fucking film for my polaroid.
It's ridiculous. BUT worth feeding the addiction.
Not having a camera makes me feel lazy... but I'm excited for when school starts. I'll have all kinds of projects, and I'm going to work hard to enter some of the contests that are held down there in the cities.
I know some of the kids this year had their photos/movies up in the Walker.

That'd be the day.

Al, I am sure you are going to excel down there. Sounds like you are getting real close to a new camera too. Congrats.

I do not live on the gunflint... I live right in town, and also my father lives about 3 miles out of town.

al- about the buying film and such... I know what you mean. I've been shooting with my TLR and really want to learn how to develop my own stuff... I sent out 7 rolls and came close to 80 bucks, but its so worth it.

K. Praslowicz 10 years ago
$80 should be able to buy you a tank, and enough chemicals to develop for about 160 rolls of B&W 120 film. Seriously, let me know if you want me to show you how its done next time you finsih a roll. Its so frightingly simple.

sjixxxy, ill take you up on that offer, if you dont mind showing me on 35mm film
admin
K. Praslowicz 10 years ago
Only thing different for 35mm is the amount of liquids used, so I don't mind at all.

I've been in search of a job with no luck.

And come to think of it, I'm going to have a lot of Med format & 35mm film to process after this weekend, so I probably won't even require anyone to bring their own if they want to see.

Speaking of this weekend, do you still want/need a sidekick/ mule/ grasshopper?
admin
I would love to check this process out.

Are we playing "film" at the next meeting, then? Where are we going to hang up it up to dry?

Jason

K. Praslowicz 10 years ago
This is why I propose just using one of my rolls at my place. Everyone can leave when they please, and the film can dry in peace.

Most of my time next week will be occupied by moving, but after then I can buy some beer and have a little educational ghetto apartment warming party.
admin
I would contribute beer that partay.

Karl, what kind of job are you looking for?
MOD
Karl W. 10 years ago
hm... possibly Jules. I've been trying to find something on top of the hill though so my commute is less. I've been looking for more of a tech related job, but I have a feeling I won't find one.

sjixxxxxxxxxxxxxy- (it took me 3 tries to get the 'j' in the right spot...)

If I wasn't up in Grand Marais, I'd take you up on it. Perhaps in the fall time!

I have had a busy busy busy last week.
Had three immunizations for school, a nose piercing, and a tattoo all in one day.
A family reunion the next.
Started moving into my dorm room... which is very cramped and hot.
But the dorm resident told me I should consider a job in interior decorating. I had the room all swapped around before my roomate even got there. And she was thrilled.

Moving on sunday....
