I am recently divorced. Prior to my marriage I was a star athlete, world champion powerlifter and nationally recognized natural bodybuilder. I was training for the olympics when my husband proposed to me. I made the decision that love last forever not gold or the glory of winnng gold in the olympics.

My (ex) husband then spent four years making me feel like I was the ugliest person in the world, the stupidest and that essentially I was his persona charity case.

I have not laid eyes on him in over a year - the divorce became final only days ago. It was not until he was gone that I realized how far I had fallen from where I was before the mental abuse. I spent the last year rebuilding my self esteem. Now, I am going to document my rebuilding of my life as and independent and proud woman!

Today is August 9th - This is where my new journey begins! This is my self portrait...

Comedy Catch - Day 2

August 10, 2007
Today I went to the local Comedy Club to see ETTA MAY one of the female comedian's on CMT "Southern Fried Chics". The club is small hole in the wall and a well kept secret to the locals here in town. It is nice to see big names like Jeff Foxworthy, Seinfeld, and others show up at a small place like this.

A Special Gift - Day 3

August 11, 2006
This weekend a very special man brought me flowers because I wasn't feeling well. He is romantic and sweet. He has told me he loves me and wishes that I would say the same to him. After what I have been through, I do not want to rush anything. I am protecting my heart, but most of all my identity. That is what my exhusband took from me. I feel like I still have so much more to discover about myself. This man may pass me by, but I cannot risk losing myself again. He must have patients, because I will not rush. It has to feel right, it has to feel perfect, It has to be real...and most of all, I have to feel like I can still be me.

Very beautiful flower pic! and the comedy club is good too, and I will compliment you again on your SP. I have also taken a quick look at your stream, I need to spend a lot more time there, and I am impressed with the sumptuous colours and compositions I see there. Frames are very controversial on Flickr, but i think you have used them very effectively in these two pictures.

I have no expertise to offer you any relevant advice, or to understand your state of mind, and what you suffered to get there, but since you introduced the topic, I will simply urge you to be sensitive to your suitor's feelings, and if he is really a good man, and possibly right for you, don't run the risk of losing him by focussing on your own fears and baggage. But who am I to offer advice?

No...please. Advice is welcome as well and critic of photos. Not turning to a cold heart is hard...need people to alert me when it is happening.

Day 3 Current Mood

August 13, 2007
When I got home today I decided to pamper myself after a long day at work. I use to be the stress queen and still can be if I don't try to take time for myself. So when I got home I immediatly threw one the silk rob, got out some candles and curled up to watch some t.v. This backdrop for this photo is my silk robe...that is the dragon that you see.

I have a bad habit of putting everybody and everything above myself. It is a real effort to make sure I take a step back and do things for myself on a regular basis. It doesn't have to be big things, it can be as simple as an evening to myself just to relax from the day.
noxious bulb [deleted] 11 years ago

Tonight's Hero Day 5

August 14, 3007
A couple years ago when I was still married my husband would go to his local billiard's club to get drunk. I was the designated driver and had to carry his drunken self out of the bar three to four nights a week. I actually got to be great friends with the staff and some of the other people there because when he was drinking or sobber for that matter he never paid me any attention. I had to entertain myself.

Having noticed this pattern I was asked to play on a pool league there... I was going to be there anyway and essentially by myself. My grandfather was a pool hustler to the level of his primary income was made in pool halls. I decided to do it thought maybe it is in my blood.

To shorten this story a little, after the seperation I stopped playing, but was recently brought back into it. My teammates called me up and I was recruited for the club ladies team. So I was on co-ed team and a ladies only team. My pool playing has been less that steller the last couple months...until last night.

They put me in a 9 ball match- I usually play 8 ball. It was the quickest match of the night. I never lost a match. So last night I was the hero. It was good being back in there...good being around good people and even better not having to continue to look out of the corner of my eye to make sure my husband wasn't passed out in the floor.
Dragonhide 11 years ago
Wow, that is a great picture!!

And I am glad to know that you can go out and play pool and BE yourself without having that kind of worry/burden!

Sad Day

August 15, 2007
"Why can't it just be over?" I thought it was over only to find out it is not. The divorce papers were signed and my lawyer said - "It's done." My husband was out of the country so there was no need to appear in court. He signed the papers, he signed...today I received a phone call...we have to appear in the judges chambers on Monday morning.

This will be the first time I've come face to face with him since June 7, 2006 which is the day that via phone it stated - "it's over." Mental abuse was excruciating for me. Statements like "Your a F&^king Bitch" when I wouldn't let him drive drunk, or asked him not to get drunk at all. "You are an ugly skank," when I refused to have sex with him when he was drinking. "Nobody would have you, that is why I married you,"

I was a world champion powerlifter and a bodybuilder when I met him, yet when he was done with me, I was afraid to walk into a gym. I felt so insecure out of place. I went from people asking for autographs and asking for photo opportunities to hiding behind heavy clothing and ashamed to go out.

When I did go out, I kept hearing his voice saying those things to me. I would curl back into my shell

That is the monster I am facing on Monday...face to face for the first time. I can't let a tear shed. He always said that if he left i would just "run home to Mommy," because I was "too weak to be alone". I have not ran home...I have stood on my two feet. I am planning on walking in that court room on Monday...alone. I can't cry, he enjoyed hurting me too much, he would only get a lasting satisfaction from that....

Now I must prepare for this.
Dragonhide 11 years ago

Dragonhide 11 years ago
If it happens, you're human and a divorce has to be so upsetting, even if it's the right thing- especially from someone that has treated you so badly.

The good thing is, it won't matter anymore- hopefully this is the END of it, and you won't have to ever worry about it again.

Don't let a "human moment" make you think you are weak- you aren't, you're taking steps on your own to improve your life, and that is powerful.

Anyway good luck, and no matter what- you're not weak.

Day 7 Daily Walk

August 17, 2007
This is the garden/landscape that I pass as I am walking into work each day. Today was a hard day for everyone at work. The assistant general manager literally publically degraded every manager in the building, all at seperate times. She even went out of her way to make it public.

I enjoy my job most of the time, but it is times like this that I wish I could have a daily dose of my therapy, nature. Walking by this tree and lovely landscape each day is not always enough enjoyment or therapy before walking in those front doors to face things such as today. I feel worse for the people that work for me. As she was yelling at me she was degrading them, they could hear her. They are all good workers. She asked if I was going to stand by them...I said yes. She then said I must suffer the consequences of their failure. The worst part is what she was yelling about they had not failed at yet, she was simply anticipating failure. That is nto fair to them, I will stand by them, proudly. They are good people, hard workers...and they deserved to be treated with respect, as I do.

This is a weekly thing with the Assistant General Manager, though this week was worst then seveal previous episodes, it is a regular pattern that she has developed.

I love seeing daily photos on here from places around the world...i.e. Paris. I, like so many others, want to see the world. Appreciate the different cultures, the different structures, different foods, tastes, etc. Flickr, and most especially allows me the opportunity to see things from other places. Reading the commentary can be so eye opening, things that people see as part of the everyday ordinary seems magical to me. Perhaps someone is looking at my photos and thinking the same, which enforces to be - - - Appreciate everything, your everyday is someone else's heaven.

Love the vintage tractor shot. My husband's family (who are farmers) had a tractor like that and his mom likes to tell the story about how on Mother's day her husband surprised her with a seat pad for the tractor seat and it was the best Mother's Day present she ever got.
RobW_ PRO 11 years ago
Cherry, you get such vivid colours in all of your shots (except the tractor) that it's a pleasure to view your stream. Your AGM sounds like a very inadequate individual who is not doing your organization any good at all. When I worked at IBM, there was an Open Door Policy (dating from the 1920's), where in a case like this, you could appeal to a higher manager, and your case would be heard with all due consideration and fairness. It was a policy which was respected, rigorously applied, and the original complaint as well as subsequent ruling openly displayed on noticeboards after the event. Clearly one didn't use it frivolously, but in cases of managerial incompetence and abuse, it worked a treat.

I'm with you on the very wide exposure these diaries give to one, of cross-cultural, cross-generational social interchange. There is a PhD thesis in here somewhere (someone else (Phil-Fil?) suggested something similar today.
sunshinecity 11 years ago
I love how you put it Cherry: Appreciate everything, your everyday is someone else's heaven. So simply yet wonderfully put!

Day 8 motorcycle

August 18, 2007
Well, I've managed to take the photos every day, but haven't managed to upload them all. So I am playing a little catch-up.

Friday, began a long decent of tragic event in the lives of the people around me. I was preparing to come face with my husband. Felt the emotional pressure and asked everyone to just give me the weekend to myself to just prepare myself. But my plans changed...a friend of mine had a miscarriage and did not even know she was preganant. She was in the hospital overnight and was in a lot of pain,

My plans were to go to the mountains somewhere and take photos of my favorite subject, waterfalls...but due this turn of events I am staying here in the city. The most interesting thing I saw today was this bike parked outside of work. A customer actually drove it in today.

It is Sunday, and tomorrow I face my biggest demon...I face my husband. Today I stayed in the house, cleaning and making sure there was absolutly no reminders of him in the house anymore. This lion overlooks my living room and consequently overlooked a lot of my activiities today.

This lion has seen the fights, it has seen me sit in my living room floor and cry for hours as my husband slept in the bed. This lion has heard the virbal abuse and tonight it over looks me as I curl up with on the couch and prepare to close the door on that chapter of my life.

Really enjoying my daily visits to the park. If I don't get to spend some time outside then I start going crazy. Working in an office all day I don't get a lot of fresh air.

My visits to the park allow me to watch people, see neat things and yet still be to myself with my thoughts and my camera.

Today I ventured out to an old hiking/Mountain Biking spot for me here in the area. I was actually very upset after getting there. I had not been there is several years...First, the main entrance had been cut off by some construction going on. I had to find another way in. Second, the pollution was terrible. People had gone back there to party and left their trash...there were signs of several seperate parties back there. It had turned into a dumping ground.

I took this photo which was a real challenge just to keep signs of the trash out of the photograph.

Light in the Tree

Today my ex husband is suppose to arrive any minute to my work place. So for lunch I took outside to try to find my peace before he arrived. Same rule as before, no tears. Can't let him see me cry, my tears is his drive.

There is a storm coming in the distance as you can see in this photo. The storm is literal today and figuratively.

So far it is 2:00 and I have not heard from him yet. Just want to get this over with...he needs to pick up things awarded to him through the divorce...his passport. That is all he walks away with is his passport.

I have been taking the photos the last few days I just have not had the opportunity to down load them. I hope to down load them tonight and get caught up tomorrow morning.
