Got up this morning and decided to go up to the mountains to go fishing, well it quickly became clear today was not a fishing day, but these 2 pine trees flocked in snow standing by them selves caught my eye and made me think of 2 brothers.

It had just rained earlier in the morning and this little shrub just seemed very alive with the rain drops and the little blossoms

Decided to go on a short walk at a nearby lake after work despite the grey and chilly weather, and I stumble across a few migrating pelicans, perhaps not a odd sight in alot of places but in the plains of colorado a nice treat.

Barbara my fiance took a week to go home, so I got up this morning and the house felt very empty without her in it. Latter while getting ready to work I looked at the candle stand and the idea of just one lit appealed to me as a sort of beacon and a reflection of my own feelings of being alone in the house.

Barbara still gone so decided to go on a little drive into the plains, came across a outcropping of rock that made almost a complete circle inside I found this pretty blooming bush next to a slot in the rock.

Was a hard choice today because another picture I took of a set of three rocks I really like especially after I noticed the small herd of antelope that had gotten into the picture that I did not even notice ( sigh) untill I got home. Sadly the antelope can only really be seen when you look at the large version of the picture, so this in the medium format is the better one imho. Thanks Jonathan and reebeckisupergirl for the nice comments

Again the restlessness of Barb not being home drove me out of the nice warm bed early so decided to go on a early walk. I got entranced by the sunrise and shortly after I had taken this shot realized I had to leave for work in 15 minutes so had to run home, lol made me realize how badly I need to start working out.

Last night mentioned I was going to buy a new tripod today, and barbara broke down and gave me a early birthday present she had put away, its called a gorilla pod, pretty handy device you can wrap the legs of the tripod around objects to hold the camera steady from a tree limb or anything like that.

Went up to the mountains and messed around got some decent shots but after words went by my fathers to visit and showed him the gorilla pod and he mentioned how it kind of looked like the war of the world' s machines and this branched off untill we could not take it any more and had to take some pictures of the gorilla pod looking like it was taking over the christmas house' s.

All in all a very silly shot but we had alot of laughs over it and that really sums up the day a happy light hearted jaunt

Night Heron

My new lens came in today and I jumped out to go play with it, after about a hour or so of annoying the local wildlife i decided to take a break and review the pictures I had taken ..was very sad to see I had not placed the memory card back in the camera ...kinda funny now but at the time it was DOHHHH. Anyway went home got the card and came back out had alot fun using it and got this great picture of the night heron.

It's a canon isn't it? You can turn that off in the menu, so it will yell at you if you try to take pictures without a card in it. That saved my ass a few times :-) I've been thru that disappointment before and don't intend to again!!

5/10 sunrise is really something else.. well taken.

And that gorilla pod... That looks downright sweet. I have been eyeing that thing wondering how it will work out as my replacement tripod of choice for backpacking. Right now I lug along a fullsize aluminum tripod.

and Jallen yes it is a canon have to go dig out the book and figure out how to make it yell at me lol, I defintley need that. As for the gorilla pod it works great have hung it on tree limbs and park benches with the 20d and my normal lens and works wonderfull, have not yet tried it with the 70-300 I just recieved I will give it a test tommorow and see how it goes

Started to read a old favorite of mine that I had not dusted off for several years the hobbit, and in Tolkiens land there are the misty mountains, the colorado front range on a rainy day always makes me think of it perhaps thats why I started the book again. Regardless the book and the way the mountains look have defintley kicked in my wanderlust about time to dust off the back pack and get some camping in.

Patriotic man vs gorilla pod

Once again the gorilla pod was used for comedy relief , was up visiting family again and since it was raining out we were just inside talking and the sillyness just naturally followed, besides being childish and silly, it was just tons of fun, dont really expect any one else to see the humor but for us many laughs were had and any thing that can bring that much fun earmarks the day :)

Went out walking in a "open space" area right out side Denver and had a pretty nice walk. Among the highlights were a tree in middle of this small pond just filled with nesting cormants and a 2 great blue heron's farm1.static.flickr.com/238/524262046_4fa5baa8ee_b.jpg
could not get too close but was pretty cool never the less.
Oddly enough was this stump sticking out of the water that is my favorite shot of the day though, not sure why, just is.
