It's a big year for me. I turned 27. I started Grad School. My marriage fell apart, but I'm putting my life back together. In a real way, I've rediscovered God's grace.

For better or for worse, this will be a year I'll never forget.

Without Sin 4/6/07 - Good Friday.

They found fault in the faultless. Blamed the blameless. Judged he who could not be judged. And they crucified him, an innocent lamb. He was abandoned by those who loved him. Ignored by those who knew him. Spat upon by those who knew what he could do.

I can sit and judge, but I realize that I am part of that crowd, too.

Easter Eggs 4/7/07 My housemate, Laura, dyed some beautiful Easter Eggs. Despite my awareness of the heaviness of this holiday, I enjoy the celebration of life, beauty, majesty, and joy that surrounds it.
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
The Kids 4/8/07 Spent the Easter holiday at my parent's house with my brother and sister and their families. I took a lot of the photos of the kids today, but decided to make this one my photo of the day. In the midst of our family craziness, I could not remember when the last time my brother, sister, and myself got some time together with no spouses and no kids. I don't know if that's happened in my adult life. Needless to say, there hasn't been many recent photos of the three of us, either so I figured it was high time we took one!

Great Eggs -- wonderful perspective...... and for the record..... your neighborhood looks a far cry from the ghetto. (I believe Ice Cube -- my friend Ebilflindas, will have to be the final word on this -- coined the phrase "ghetto bird").... i'd check, but i keep getting access denied to all the references I'd look on here at work, and the IT police should be knocking on my door at any minute!

Book 'N Coffee 4/9/07 Had some time to stop by Starbucks on my way to work. I had to work late, so having some downtime to unwind was really nice. By the way, the book I'm reading is called "With or Without You". The author, also a Christian, went through a difficult divorce around the same age I am and wrote about his experience. It's very raw, but very therapeutic. And it's inspired me to write about my experience as well in a story.
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
Bella -

You are right. I found this on Urban Dictionary (mind the language!):

A ghetto bird is a police helicopter. In the early 1990s, the police flew their helicopters around the black neighbords either in search of crime or as an excessive measure in an arrest. Ice Cube's song "Ghetto Bird" clearly displays the sentiments of african-americans. They felt slighted and violated because they were being targeted.

Soooo....I grew up in the "O.C.". Didn't listen to much Ice Cube. :)

The Last Box 4/11/07 Sarah gave me my last box of stuff from the apartment today. The card on top was the card she gave me on our wedding day. Inside, it says "I love you more than you ever will know, but I promise that I will spend the rest of my life trying to show you."

I know those words were true then, I just wonder what happened in between.

Sunrise 4.13.07. Sunrise on the way to work. It's Friday the 13th - can't be that bad of a day with this type of sunrise, right? I was right. I called the restaurant where I left my camera and they said they didn't have it. Looks like I'm without for a while, can't afford a new one right now.
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
Sunset Evening 4.14.07 I was exhausted today. My social schedule has been full lately and I haven't gotten enough sleep. I took a nap after work today and remembered to snap this photo on the front porch as I headed out to a movie. It's a pretty good shot for a camera phone, but I can only imagine how it would look on my real camera. I may have my trusty old SLR lying around so that may need to become my new daily journal camera - it's just hard to carry around all the time (and it's not digital - so this blog may only get updated every couple of weeks now). Stay tuned, perhaps my digi will turn up after all?!?

Brecca 4.22.07 - Continuing the frisbee theme, spent three hours on Sunday afternoon playing Ultimate Frisbee with some friends from church. I normally work Sundays but am on vacation this week and really enjoyed the time with friends and family.

One friend brought his dog, Brecca, who was extremely well behaved. Brecca *loves* getting scratched and I took this one while scratching her chest. She would point her snout up and close her eyes if she really liked it. Then she'd look at me with these huge sad eyes as soon as I stopped!

Camera update: still without a digi, but have been using my cell phone or a disposable camera. Will be borrowing my friend's digi starting today so hopefully I can return to a more reliable upload schedule. :)

Peering 4.23.07 Did some solo shopping at the Irvine Spectrum today. After I met a friend who works at the Apple Store for lunch, I noticed this gentleman looking through the display window for the Apple TV. Not only did he stare intently for a good 5 minutes, his nose was less than an inch from the glass.

My friend thought she would have to break out the Windex when he left, he was that close!

Bald 4.24.07 I needed a haircut for my job interview tomorrow. My roommate offered to take care of it for me. He cut it once - "let's go shorter" he said. He cut it again - "it looks good, but we could go shorter if you wanted". I thought about it, then thought "what the hell" so shorter we went.

And that is how I ended up looking like Britney Spears. I was nervous at first, but I kind of like it. What do YOU think?

Ok Bella - I admit, I had to google "Boris Kodjoe" to figure out who you were talking about...but thanks! I'm going to definitely take that as a compliment. :)

And eat chocolate.

Grinning 4.29.07 I babysat my nephews tonight. I didn't really want to do it because it's been a long week, and I'm tired, and I have homework to do, and I have a long day tomorrow. But, my sister and her husband really needed a night out and the local Improv had an interpreter tonight. It's not very often there is an opportunity for them to go out and enjoy a live show/event since they are deaf. Anyway, I rearranged my schedule and showed up a little after 6 pm.

It was about an hour later when I brought out the camera and snapped a bunch of photos of my 2 nephews. Jake (the one in this photo) rarely smiles, even though he's got one of the cutest ones around. In public, he's such a serious baby but at home (especially when his uncle is tickling him!) he's very goofy and very sweet. This was my favorite photo out of the 30 or so I took.

In the end, I'm glad I went over. My sister really appreciated it and I enjoyed the time with my family. It makes me wonder, though, why is my first instinct to be selfish and whiny?

Dancing 5.9.07 - Flew to North Carolina today for an old college friend's wedding on the Outer Banks of NC. As soon as I arrived at the house, I was dragged out for a joint bachelor/bacherlorette party at the only night club in the area. The dance floor was empty when we arrived, but it filled up nicely later. And for a while, I was the only guy dancing out there (with quite a few ladies of course!).

Lady Bug 5.11.07 This was my favorite shot from my friend's wedding. Yes, that's the bride, and yes, that's a ladybug (a bit of good luck for her) on her arm.

I didn't get too many decent ceremony shots. I felt stuck in my seat. What I *REALLY* wanted to do was wander around and take photos, like the wedding photographer was doing. I suppose I could just start my own business..... :)

Above Heaven 5.13.07 My last photo post for today (wow, I really fell behind!). This was shot on my flight home somewhere over the midwest.

There's something about staring down at the clouds that brings out the kid in me. I literally stared out the window for an hour at the clouds. It was a great time of solitude. I pondered the future direction of my life...how I could best fulfill God's purpose for it...I thought about my wife, Sarah, and how bittersweet it was to be traveling for pleasure without her...and i pondered why I was flying cross country but somehow the airline managed to avoid feeding me a decent meal...

Movie Premiere 5.19.07 One of the perks of working at the Happiest Place On Earth is no two days are alike. Today, we hosted the world premiere of "Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End", complete with the world's longest red carpet, an entire outdoor movie theater constructed on Tom Sawyer's Island, and celebrities galore. Sure, the park closed at 5 pm on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but most of the Guests were too start struck to care. As for me, the only celebrity I saw today was the little monkey from the movies, but hey, he was a monkey so that was pretty cool. :)

Scott 'n' Jim 5.20.07 Consider this a series on the perks of working at Disneyland! Today, an old roommate of mine was in town celebrating his honeymoon. We hadn't seen each other in 6 years! One perk of Disneyland - you always seem to stay in touch with (or rediscover) friends because everyone goes to Disneyland at some point....
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
Alice's Bloomers 5.21.07 Spent another day in the park after work. Today was to celebrate another good friend's transition back to Alabama (via New Orleans and Seattle). As with the friend in the 5.20.07 pick, we all worked together at Walt Disney World in 2001 and have managed to stay in touch since.

I didn't include my photo with her today because I really liked this picture of Alice spinning in Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams. There is a sense of motion to it that not only captures the feel of the entire parade, but of the Alice character in general.
jrayfarm1980 11 years ago
Shabu Shabu 5.22.07 I'm sparing everyone the Disney-themed picture today, although this one was taken at a dinner (Shabu Shabu) prior to going back to the park for a Cast Member only, after hours, clue scavenger hunt for charity. I've participated in this event every year since I've worked for Disneyland and have fun every time!

However, this year was bittersweet because it was the first year I was not on a team with Sarah (either as my friend, girlfriend, fiance, or wife) - we've done this event together every time. Of course, she was there, playing on her own team, and of course we ran into each other constantly, despite having a whole park to spread out in and over 300 teams playing, but that was to be expected I guess.

Red Carousel 5.23.07 Had the day off today, and was mostly by myself. So, i headed over to South Coast Plaza for some shopping and book browsing. I really liked this angle on the Carousel. I watched the Carousel for a good 5 minutes, and not one person chose to rode. I also reflected fondly about visiting South Coast Plaza as a child and having to ride the Carousel _every_ time we went. My parents couldn't drag me there without me begging for a ride!

Of course, it wasn't this Carousel - no, it was the larger one on the Main side of the mall. Only in Orange County could a mall get away with having not one, but TWO elaborate Carousels. Welcome to life in the O.C.!
