Been contemplating about whether or not to start this project for over 3 weeks now - just due to the intensity of having to keep a camera every single day! But then today is the 4th of Jan 07 and funny that I have taken a pic each day this year- so maybe it's a sign ...... here we go 2007 in Pictures!

New Years Eve Party, fake eyelashes, glitzzy make-up and BW dress up theme.

Happy Birthday Jits

Holidays are only a memory, things are busy at work today. I leave the office much after 6:00 pm and pick up a cake on the way home. It's also the last night that our friends are staying with us, and it's one of their birthdays!

After the cake we take them to Motion Bar, and return home just in time for their cab to take them to the airport!

if u were walking through my neighbourhood

If u were walking through my neighbourhood at this time of year...the sidewalks are almost littered with Christmas trees (waiting to be picked up for recycling) with no room to walk by!

Seeing so many on such a large scale made me wonder if the pleasure of having a traditional fresh smelling tree is really worth having so many ruined to give us short pleasure

- sigh maybe next year I'll buy a potted one? or fake one? or maybe its just the way i'm feeling right now that the holiday period is over and life starts again, or is the loooong day the effect of travelling to a remote location for an ALL day meeting and back again?

but it makes me feel better knowing that each time I looked at mine it brought me and my guests such joy!

hi Jissy... time for me to comment on your great photos -- Love the lashes -- I just got turned onto them last year, they're so much fun! if they're hurting, they're on wrong.

I like your use of color in your photos - playful, and i see you have a red and green thing going too.... there's something red or green in all of them....probably not intentional

i like your idea of casual dining --- the flowers add a very nice touch.

see u!!

the whole tree debate is huge - for me it is easy cause fir trees grow so abundantly here - i might feel differently if the tree was shipped thousands of miles -
when i used to go in for trees (before i became a nomad) i used to buy one organic to suport local sustainable agriculture and chop down one charley brown tree for the basement
to lessen the guilt, i would stake the trees near my bird feeders to provide shelter for the song birds through the winter - and since i had decorated with popcorn and cranberries, and left it on the tree, the birds got a little snack
in the spring/ summer, the tree gets chopped up and into bonfire
and a tree is correct if im wrong, carbon neutral?

@sam - i'll have to check though it must be alil depressing
2007 Inside out
msspider66 12 years ago
I see nothing wrong with a real tree since most Christmas trees are farmed. The higher the demand the more trees they grow. Although they are cut down in their prime, while they are growing they are adding oxygen into the air.

I have a fake tree but I have had real trees before. I admit I can't keep up with the watering and mess. It is safer for all that I stick with artificial.
[Ms Spider66]
Jissy 12 years ago
@ Bella Gaia- lol! I didn't notice the red and green, tho now that I think about it use heaps in my home decorating- Yeah fake lashes are fun, and yup they were on wrong, but after 6 attempts with this pair, I gave up!

@ Jonathan- popcorn and cranberry deco is such a great idea. at least it reassures me i'm not the only one who feels a sense of guilt

@ ms spider- my neighbourhood runs a Christmas tree recycyling program which means they all picked up and re-used and the ones I buy are also from special farmed places, yet I still felt a bit bad! Thanks for helping lessen m guilt, lol at the watering and mess- I hear u!

Street market
After a busy day and preparing for two more busy days of early morning-late night all day workshops, decided to spend some time lunching 'away' from my desk. There is an authentic little falaffel place in between a mini street market- sigh felt like such a privledge to take some time out!

After work, spent all evening making special gift (craft) can't upload pics or tell too much as it may spoil the suprise, only got to bed at 1:00 am, no time to post to daily diary, and sigh had to wake up real early to meet and greet and sit in all day meeting- oh and pay attention, even worse contribute ;-)

Daily crowds at Waterloo station

I travel through this station at least twice a day sometimes many more! And EVERY SINGLE DAY it feels like you weaving through people traffic to move from one end to the other!

Feeling particularly tired this week, maybe lack of sleep, too much concentration, lack of flickr time, etc, etc

I was feeling really dizzy from all of this taking this pic, all I wanted to do was be on my train on my way home!

In order to bank myself a seat (due to dizzyness) I sat on the train that departed in ten minutes time, instead of the usual rushing to get on the first one that leaves, managed to get a good spot and had a paper...did eventually make it home, cooked some pasta (and coz I haven't cooked in a looong while) yup hubby's been playing the domestic role with my lack of work life balance, I forgot how potent the chillis mum sent me actually were, completely overloaded the pasta with chilli's and the boys pretended to eat it, noses dripping and all, they smiled and said this is gweashhhtreat! ;-)
msspider66 12 years ago
Change it to Penn Station in NY and this is my life too. The regular commuters know how to move in the human traffic, but those damn fools with daily tickets get in the way.

My trains do not leave as frequently as 10 mins apart, but some nights I will skip a crowded train train just to get a seat on the next train.

My trains are the worst. After 815p they leave hourly. I always seem to just miss the train and end up wasting money to kill time.

The past two days I caught an early train home. Tonight I rode with an old friend who recently returned to working in the city. The hour ride on the LIRR flew by as we caught up with life and gossip.

No Smoking

After Hubby spent money and time overly hooking us up with technology in our little two bedroom apartment on Saturday, i.e. cable box in our room with new HD TV, Cable box in the lounge that records up to two programmes, allows one to pause live tv and an additional subscription to The Movie channels (all so unnecessary for two people who are hardly there) but on Sunday morning, when I woke up at 10.00 am and was able to watch two movies in bed, before even confronting the day, it was WELL WORTH the investment.

After dragging myself out of bed, completely relaxed, we hopped over to the Village Common Room, for a quick drink or time away from the tele ;-)

ps- also the reason why i did not post to MDPD either attributed to being overly relaxed

Spot light on me

The lights all around my desk have stopped working, turned out to be a serious engineering problem so as a temp solution I have been provided with multiple desk lamps next to me, on me and behind me ;-)

It kind of looks like a massive photoshoot around my desk, and each person that walks past (and a lot of ppl walk past due to the kitchen right in from of me) feels the need to comment.

My neighbour eventually stood up and said she was tired of hearing people think they actually sound orignal by saying, looks like a photo shoot going on here. People were so concerned about by eyesight, much more concerned then I was. Other comments recieved during the day, u look like an angel, all lights on u, so u seeking some attention and the best...coz everyone around me has either resigned or is on maternity leave and i sit on my own is ....drum roll....are u lonely so u doing this to get people to notice you? aagh..it was funny at first but after the 20th person's comments it was just an annoying distraction.

No Entry, No Loading, No Drinking....Great combination of signage. I decided to leave work at a reasonable time, to go home and make some dinner, but I ended up getting anxious waiting for the bus to arrive, may not represent the highlight of my day but certainly made me laugh ;-)

Eventually got home and cooked for about 2.5hrs, made Mince & pea curry with rice for hubby, Soya mince curry with Roti for me and fried potato cubes in garlic with chilli and cumin for us to share.

The dinner was great and well worth the effort...and I made enuff to last for the next day too...spent the rest of the evening, watching re-runs of Sex in the City that Hubby set on record on his new Cable box for me.

When the London Eye goes peek-a-boo I see u....

Sometimes on the way home from work, if one of us doesn't feel like heading home, we head to a pub. Tonight All Bar One near Waterloo station (for convenience of commute).

I thought I heard hubby say Arch One, and walked into the bar, ready to order my drink from the barman, asked him to hang a sec while I called Hubby to see where he was sitting, oops turned out I was at the wrong bar, luckily I hadn't ordered, the barman smiled and waved goodbye as I walked on.

Now had to cross the bridge and made the walk to the right bar, I looked up and saw the eye spying on me and thought this has to be the highlight of my day.... This happens often actually, if the eye could speak, a few times last year I walked into the wrong cafe on this road walking about looking for familiar faces, and into the next and next...Why don't I just listen clearly....? so I walked in to the RIGHT bar to find a group of friends with hubby. Always good to catch up mid-week. While they ordered Tapas, I ordered a fries with mayo, loaded it with tabasco sauce and digged in.
Before I knew it it was 20:10 and completely forgot the beautician was coming home at 21:00 to do regular waxing and ouch threading, he was having so much fun, i left alone, rushing to make it here in time (considered rescheduling but each time I look in the mirror is a reminder that its looong overdue, so I get home in time, relax on the couch, start painting my nails. at 21:10 no sign of the beautician, I call her up and no answer hmm... five mins later my phone rings, she is home and comfy and sounds like she wants to relax, i tell her about my night and naturally she says hang on i'll be there in fifteen mins...so after all of that....she arrived, my eyebrows look great and it was all worth it ;-)

I made it

There were major delays across London's entire transport network, due to bad weather. People were scurrying around in complete panic, not knowing how there were able to get home. There were so many Flickr photo opportunities, but I also had to find my own way home, so every moment stopped meant time wasted.

At waterloo station there were only three trains departing, one of three was going to a suburb near mine. I managed to squeeze on. We were standing like sardines, no space to breathe...and finally I was pushed by other commuters through these glass doors into the First Class section. Oh MY! wasn't it cozy in there, air conditioning, people in seats and silence and MOST of all space. It was a complete different world. Although standing in this section I could feel people giving me some killer stares...luckily I wasn't in it alone.

After another two more bus trips I was well on my way home... time ticking and still no photo opprtunity,, apa but I was smiling coz it could have been much worse, but I had a seat in First Class, both buses ran on time and all in all it was a pleasant journey.

Home at last....& I felt really bad for the 100's of people who were stranded.

spent the rest of the eve chilling...

working from home

After the chaos over public transport on Thursday night, we ended up working from home together on Friday. The pro's of working from home mean extra sleep due to no travel time and casual gear.

The cons' without an office in our apartment and one internet connection - i realised it was time to go wireless. We found ourselves getting in each other's way and discussing conference call meeting times to pan whether we needed to use our mobiles or if we could use the house phone!

We also had to deal with moving rooms each time our helper was ready to clean the next (yup home help every Friday is great) and with our intercom being broken obviously today is the day they decided to come and fix it, so found ourselves tag teaming up and down to help him test it ;-)

i spent most of the day creating a 400 line item project plan, he played x-box and watched sport in between meetings, so it worked out well in the end.

After my last meeting for the day, which ended at 18:05 I sat down to take my MPDP pic for the day, and realised he had already been a whiskey down, obviously i poured myself a well deserved glass of wine shortly after this.

As I downloaded this pic, I laughed coz I realised how this pic could well be an ad for Diesel - everyday living.

Step five, alternatively add yoghurt and dry ingredients into mixture

Hubby left really early this morning, to watch a football match at a pub followed by another match live...so i had heaps of time on my hands...hmm i don't know why, but for some reason i decided to bake.

You need to understand i have not baked a cake in OVER TEN YEARS, so this was gonna be an experience. It started out by flipping thru recipe books, looking for the one that I had most of the ingredients, i settled for a choclate nut cake! sounded good!

Hours later, the cake was baked, and here is the step by step picture capture.

What I learned, its much easier to buy but can be fun making it, definitely read the whole recipe before starting (I had a ooops moment when I realised that the topping needed to be baked too) and finally, bake soemthing u actually enjoy...so this cake was like a choc fudge texture, i prefer moist sponge cake types

Oh well, now it's done and I can say I baked a cake from scratch in THIS decade!

Later that evening, our friends came over with dinner they already cooked for us, that was easy, I set the table, served them their own dinner and cake just before spending the evening watching three movies ;-)

After the storm calm

Sunday afternoon, the view from my apartment...Blue skies and a sense of still-ness. I spend a lot of time at this window, looking onto the road, mums with buggies, old people with walking sticks, kids from school and mostly admiring the building designs. I just can't get enough of these buildings, they so simple, yet have so much of detail even on the roof tops, there are little scallops that can't be seen in this pic but can be in more detail here.

Sitting here thinking that I have not left the apartment since I got in on Thursday evening, oh excpet for a few ingredients at the local store on Saturday for the baking spree.

Spent all day relaxing, mostly alone again, due to footy, watched about three episodes of SITC, one episode of Desp Housewives, chatted to mum-in-law and surfed Flickr!

Satrina- thx - rented apartment with rented furniture, so limited deco opportunities, had to work around what’s already there….oh quick rush over there’s one piece left, I took it out for hubby to taste (yes he hasn’t even tasted it yet) and he still hasn’t touched it! – how rude!?!

Overge- a fellow DSL fan huh? ;-) Yes it is Johnny Black, if I remember correctly he just finished a bottle of Blue (I’m not much of a whiskey drinker) but judging from his excitement when opening it – I take it that’s supposed to be kewl! whats yr fav?

Ebilflindas- lol lol lol I am laughing so loud here…er yes I often have a maritini (with olives) in my hand while waiting for a bus! The signs in this City amuse me so- well at least anything to brighten the commute ;-)

umm... Glenfiddich 12 years could be a good selection.. even though, I'm not a crazy fan of whisky (being more on the beer side of life :P) so I don't have a very *consolidated* opinion..

p.s. I know.. 30 years would be better.. but I won't spend that money in a bottle of whisky :P

the view from the bankers office

Today was certainly an interesting day. One of those filled with diversity. Had a meeting in Canary Wharf which felt like a download of my brain, decided to use public transport back and not a cab to get a few breaths of fresh air and off course outdoor pics ;-)

Got back to the office and there was some celebratory drinks for our companies success...not expecting much, i went down and was blown away...the went LARGE! Flowers fit for a wedding, canapes decorated to the tee, martinis, cocktails, wine and an open bar...it was def an elegant affair even with an orchestra. I was so tempted to get my camera out and start clicking, framed so many pics in my mind, but was waaaay to shy with to do this infront of like THE WHOLE company ;-)

One cranberry martini and two G&T's later I was on my way home, completely stuffed from an earlier incident with two lunches and a carrot cake, no canapes at the work do due to earlier greediness ;-)

Home was meant to be a quiet night of chilling, but instead turned out to be an intense discussion with hubby....me the subject at hand..him offering his perspective.

I learned about my fears, my natural inclination, my weakenesses, the way i handle certain situations, the way i run away from certain situations and that sometimes my silent could mean consent - so constructive and his honesty and observations really hit home for me!

Oh this picture well with so many highlights, had to b one of them.... i decided to not jump into a cab and use a walk, fresh air and public transport to get back to my office. I liked this pic, coz it gives you a view of a few of the Bank buildings, allows u to see what they see...the river, the DLR train line above, the bench, the hotel ooh and even a cafe on the right..l.how could i not forget the Vessel that is armed ;-)

It is awful going into the bathroom that u left the windows open all night... and its chilly in the morning

It is an awful feeling when u step into your bathroom and realise that u left all the windows open all night long and its brrr---

but then again but its such a pleasant surprise when u look outside and everything is covered in white! I rubbed my eyes in disbelief, put down my toothbrush, ran into the room, woke up hubby, opened the blinds and we smiled :-)

Off course it was followed by snapping away furiously my take and his take here if u interested!

I stepped out after the photo shoot, almost slipped over the ice, ran back up, changed shoes , packed work shoes in a bag, and off we went, hoping to not have to run to catch the bus ;-)

Jan 4th caught my eye... is that feta in those stuffed peppers?? Mmmmm....

I have a fantastic spongey-type chocolate cake recipe if you want. No dairy, and it's the best cake I make! (although I'll admit I'm not a huge baker, but it's moist and sooo good.)
