My 2007 Daily Diary. I'm a half-assed, amateur photographer at best. But I'm gonna try my darnest to contribute something interesting and worthwhile to this group everyday among you fine people.

It's the third day of January. It is a really pretty day out. It's close to 60 degrees outside right now and I'm in a dress, cardigan, and ballet flats taking pictures. I should have gotten frostbite by now. It's JANUARY!

Yay a fellow knitter!! Though I fall more into I must knit obsessively for brief periods and then I put it down for 2months. I got some Noro for x-mas though that I'm dying to knit so somewhere this year there will most likely be a shot of that around.

I love your ginger tea shot, and the shot for today by the way. The simple yet effective compositions really work for me.

Eh, nothing too interesting or inspired. Just took a pic of the Empire State Building on my way home from work. Although, I guess it was nice to actually take the time to notice something I walk past everyday and take totally for granted. It is purty to look at after all. Especially at night.

A shot of the bathroom in one of the very few genuine bbq joints in the North, let alone NYC, Dinosaur. Had a yummy pulled pork sandwich along with my two best guys, my brother Frank and The Boyfriend, :)

Why did I feel compelled to take a picture of the bathroom? Beats me. There were some interesting things scribbled on the wall but you really can't make out any of the writing. Oh well. And it was the only place in the joint where I could take a decent picture. Too dark!

A GORGEOUS, record breaking day (70 degrees!!!!!). B and I finished brunching in Chelsea and were on our way back to the car when we came across this little fella sitting in a parked car on 7th Avenue (and 20 Street, I want to say. . .) Very very cute, if not a wee bit funny looking dog. Wonder what breed he/she is. . .

Oh wow. I would love to learn to knit. I gave my daughter a Klutz knitting kit for Christmas. Now maybe I'll take some lessons.

Just stumbled over your diary...totally in love with the dog and the door :) Nice knitting in your bag. I have tons of unfinished knitting lying around...:P I knit or sew like crazy for about 2 weeks every 2 years or so and then all the stuff lies around unfinished untill my next crafty episode :D

Crocheted Fortune Cookie

I came across this real nifty tutorial over on YouTube today. I actually had a plain ol' yellow crocheted coaster just laying about in my room so I just folded it and stuck a fortune in it that I made myself. Hmm, for some reason, I am very easily amused and entertained by things that look like food (but actually aren't).

January 10, 2007-Tea for Me

I have no friends so I don't often feel the need to buy nice tea sets because, well, they always come with more than one damn cup.

Well, that's all in the past now. I can now have my cake and eat it too. :)

Good lordy, the mundane details of my life. . . In the tomorrow's installment of my diary, I switch to a new brand of toilet paper (quilted!).

Love the teapot! My sister broke the cover on mine when she came to visit a few months back and I really need to buy a new one, but so far nothing's called my name, so I'm just using the broken one for the time being.

I love the tea for one set! I'm the only tea drinker here, so I have a mini tea pot that serves two cups of tea, ALL FOR ME! But if someone came over , I could share.

Quilted toilet paper, no way! I'm so intrigued! Will there be a naked bum shot? Those have been going around the diaries lately. :-D

@samrag: in response to jan 6th entry, my boyfriend said the same exact thing. that the dog looked just like that creature from the Never Ending Story. i personally don't really see it, but i guess it's just me. . .Boy, is the boyfriend gonna be all smug when he hears this because i told him he was crazy. . . .:P

January 12, 2007-Hanging out at B's

I just realized that I haven't spent one day in 2007 100% healthy. First, a head cold. Now I've been trying to get over this annoying ear infection for a week now. I *think* it's getting better. . . :P

Anyhoo, B and I hung out at his place today. Watching movies (The Quiet Duel by Akira Kurosawa and Stagecoach by John Ford, both excellent films) and doing a whole lot of nothing. I was sitting in the living room, trying to think of something to take of picture of for today's entry when I just turned to my left and went *click*.

It makes for an (sorta) interesting photo, I guess. I really do like the candle holder and the John Woo movie poster is pretty awesome.

Eh, I tried. I get an "E" for Effort.

heading over to The Boyfriend's. This is the tunnel that connects the 23 Street-Ely Avenue subway stop to the Court Square subway stop. I go through here to make the transfer to the G train whenever I go over his place and I always pass this ceramic mosaic. That part with the rainclouds is only one itty-bitty part of the entire piece. It just goes on forever. . .

I've never taken the metro in NYC only know my Paris metro system. We have one long tunnel type like this at St. Michel but there isn't a pretty mural like this!

Thai elephant

gifted to me by my friend Virginia after her trip to Thailand. Supposed to give me good luck. I keep in on my window sill. It makes me smile every time I look at it. :) <--- See?

I *lurve* this thing to death, it's too darling. Elephants are one of my favorite things in this world. They're so awesome.

P.S. I learned something about myself while trying to take the picture you see above. Whoa.

Adorable little elephant. I love having things like that around me....I can stare at them and get lost in thought. I love the metro picture too....

In Paris, at the station Invalides, there is also a really long passageway with a mural done on tile. It makes the walk much more interesting....

(And, yes, your hand is freaky. Wow. :)

January 15, 2007-The Perfect Lip Balm?

OK. . *deep sigh*. . .

I think, I think I might have found the perfect lip balm today. The lip balm to end all lip balms. The lip balm I have been searching for my entire life. A nice light texture that isn't gunky. My hair doesn't keep sticking to my lips every other second. Leaves a *gorgeous*, rosy, natural-looking tint on my lips. A pleasant, subtle, (and not fruity, yay!) smell. And it actually moisturizes and has SPF 15.

Now, I just bought it today and I'm gonna need a few more days to decide is this is The One but, my gosh, I'm excited nonetheless!

January 16, 2007-Lunch

My lunch today: Soon Dae- Korean blood sausage

I'm not one to make grand, sweeping generalizations about a particular group of people, but it needs to be said, nonetheless: Americans are wienies when it comes to food. They won't eat fish unless it's a completely boneless fillet. Tripe? Liver? Kidneys? Tongue? Bleh. Expect any of them to eat blood of any sort? Forget it.

And I have low tolerance for people who claim that they just *love* korean food and then go to a korean restaurant and order up some galbi or bulgogi (barbeque) and not even touch the damn panchan. That's just as obnoxious as saying you love Italian food because you like Pizza Hut, as far as I'm concerned.

Korean food is bold, assertive, and has effing guts. You're not gonna get it confused with any other cuisine on this planet. Korean food is about stinking up your house while cooking up a pot of dwenjang chigae. It about dunking your just-boiled pig's feet into a bath of soy sauce (with your hands) before you tear off all the yummy meat off and stuck that bone dry. It's about crawling to your nearest Korean restaurant and order up some haejang guk after an especially long night of partying. It's about what you see up above. It's certainly not about "bulgogi" and "galbi" (two things my parents almost never got eat when they were growing up because it was too expensive), that's for damn sure.

I hope I don't come off as too whiny and/or angry. But it's just a pet peeve of mine and I needed someone to hear me out. Thanks. :)

i think we have something like that here in colombia, it's called morcilla and it has some very interesting parts pf the pig in it, the presentation is just like the sausages in your picture...

January 17, 2007 - Old New York vs New New York

Not that long ago, I used to be able to stand from this exact spot and be able to get a perfect shot of the Empire State Building. There was nothing around to compete with it. Nothing to freaking dwarf the tallest building in New York . You'd be walking around, minding your own business, la-di-da, and then bam: You're looking at one of the biggest structures in the whole damn world, ya know? That is before all of these obnoxious, cookie-cutter, deluxe, high-rise condominiums (not to mention hotels and office buildings) started to spring up all over the place. Just like the one you see front and center in this pic. Just like the whole slew of them behind me.

I'm being a tad over-dramatic, I know. Change is quite inevitable. But I find gentrification to be a quite maddening and ultimately saddening phenomena. :( The days of Woody Allen's New York will soon be all but dead. I feel lost in the only city I've known and loved my entire life.

About the blood sausage: does it have rice in it? What's your opinion of bibimbap (what I ate last time we went to the Korean restaurant here)? :-)

We have some sausages like that in Italy here too, called Vinaccio... or something, but hey, I won't touch those either!! Just 'cause some people cook it doesn't mean I'll eat it!! LOL

January 18, 2007- I *heart* Conan! (even tho I never watch his show anymore.  *sigh*)

Not feeling too inspired for today's diary entry. Just took some random pictures while sitting in my room. Decided to go with this picture for today (it was this or a picture of my bandaged up paper cut so I wouldn't be complaining if I were you. . .:P)

About 10 years ago, I was a chubby sophomore in high school and had a massive crush on Conan O'Brien. I used to stay up and watch his show religiously, dream about being married to him, and doodle his name in my notebook while sitting in Algerbra. Anyhoo, one day I decided to write him this gushing (and rather embarrassing, now that i think about it) fan letter to him. I actually don't remember a single word I wrote to him but I'm sure it was along the lines of: "ohmygod! I looooove you, Conan! you're so funny. you're everthing I dream of in a man. I want to marry you and have lots and lots of babies with you!" Good lordy. . .

Anyhoo, about six months letter, I got this autographed picture of him in the mail with no letter enclosed. I'm sure one of his interns had a good chuckle over my letter and then threw it out. I don't blame them. And I'm sure they sent out this same photograph to everyone that sends him mail. But at the time, I was thrilled.

I can't remember the last time I watch "Late Night", tho. The show comes on too damn late and I'm working girl now. agghh. but nonetheless, this pic was a favorite of mine.

Oh, I wrote a similar letter to Duran Duran, but I never got a damn thing. Madeleine L'Engle wrote back to me though -- twice.

staying in and watching Sabrina. Why do girls always seem to have to two hunky guys fighting over them in TV and movies all the time? Why can't I have such dilemmas in my life? Hmph!

The original Sabrina was so much better than the remake. A great way to spend an evening.

And we are expecting snow here overnight. Maybe an inch or two, but it should turn to rain and all melt by noon tomorrow.

January 21, 2007- Drinking tea, watching football. . .

Staying in on a cloudy Sunday afternoon by myself and being a bum. My boyfriend now works on Sundays so I don't have anyone to watch football with anymore. Just keep myself company with some good silver needle tea.

And also, I seriously need to get my eyebrows waxed. It's clearly been a while. . .

no, no. I've become far too lazy to make cardigan of that nature. Too many buttons and seams to sew. Nuts to that. I actually got the cardigan from Built By Wendy. Godd stuff.

Hi Sandra... Blood sausage. You know, when I was a kid, my mom would cook blood sausage and I remember really liking it. So strange that I could get over the name as a kid. I don't know if I really equated it with actual blood. Haven't had it since, but remember it being so rich and a yummy texture. But no rice in it or whatever is in yours...

January 23, 2007-Out with the new, in with the old. . .

I went to the eye doctor today. Got a new prescription. My eyes has gotten worse but not too much. My eyesight actually isn't all the horrible. But I have astigmatism and that makes everything look all wobbly and I get pounding headaches if I don't wear my glasses.

Anyhoo, I decided to get new lenses on an old pair of glasses. I kinda missed these frames. And they look alright, me thinks. They're a lot more subtle than the ones I wear these days. And there are times when I don't want to draw all that much attention to myself, ya know?

That Guinness ring is awesome, but I am too much of a wuss to drink Guinness. But I don't think Hoegaarden makes rings. Hmmph.

My husband is always rooting for me to get thinner frames. I dream of having fifties-style cats eye glasses. But I don't think they look good on many people. Oh, woe is me!

January 24, 2007- Givenchy mascara

one of my favorite pastimes is to buy makeup I have NO business buying. Not on my income, anyways. Damn that Sephora!

One of favorite new purchases these days is this mascara. The one thing I adore about expensive, name brand cosmetics is the care they put into their presentation. I'm all about good design. I'm a big fan of a nice, clean aesthetic. I mean, look at this freaking bottle of mascara. It's pretty damn pretty.

I especially love perfume bottles. I can try out a certain perfume and think it *reaks* but I'll still contemplate buying it if it's in an awesome bottle. (Ummm, maybe I just need to get used to it? *crosses fingers*)

Anyhoo, I digress. . .

I mean, look at flickr. i truly know, like, a handful of my contact in real life (who the hell are the rest of you anyways??). And even then, i see these people once every other week if i'm lucky these days. hooray for technology! and for me not having to put on makeup and go anywhere! hooray!

p.s. i'm going on a wee weekend trip down to dc this weekend. hopefully, i'll have more exciting pictures to post than Stuff On My Desk.

There's a nerdy part of me that would love to own a Blackberry. But my more practical side says no to such things. I don't even text on my cell phone.

I want one for the very reasons you use yours.... I think the next phone I get will be the blackberry but have told myself my current phone has to go completely kaputt before I go for the blackberry.

Blackberries haven't really taken off here in the UK for personal use, I dont know about in business circles.

Text messages are a lot more popular here though so maybe that explains it???

January 26, 2007- Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

The Boyfriend and I went for an extreme short trip to DC last weekend to attend an engagement party. Stop by the Basilica and took a look around. It's a gorgeous church. I wanted to take pictures inside but I wasn't too sure if that was appropriate. Boyfriend said it was probably all right but I was doubtful, nonetheless. . .

It was a COLD and cloudy day. I liked the way the blue really stands out in the gray sky.

After a long night of good times, we went to my boyfriend's friend's place to crash while we were in DC. We passed out on the cot in the living room onIy to be horribly awoken by this thing: A skyroof.

That thing was right over me.

January 28, 2007- Not good.

I woke up this morning and felt like C-R-A-P. Again. I just got over a really bad cold AND a horrible ear infection only two weeks ago. I spent, like, one week in January 100% healthy.

It's not so bad this time around. I feel a little tired and achy. And my chest feels a little tight. That's about it. I'm gonna be popping these Vitamin C supplement and drinking a lot of water while watching me some Netflix.

We really buy with our eyes first huh? Packaging is everything, as they say... I wish my job had something to do with this kind of stuff!

re: January 26 - that's funny how it's a church yet has what very much resembles a star of David in its "cupola"... I love contradicting symbolisms, sometimes!
